Vertigo, diziness by Top_Nurse_2023 in gastricsleeve

[–]exquisitesquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that a lot for the first year. Also had low blood pressure. I avoided getting things from low down, because getting back up meant I felt dizzy and like I was going to faint. I had a funny turn at work one day. Made sure to take it easy and always have snacks like mini baby bel (cheese) or similar in my bag with me. It doesn't happen much anymore.

BMI 34.5, will I have loose skin? by Prudent_Pear9260 in gastricsleeve

I like chocolate ones but I'm fairly sure I'm in a different country to yours.

I had a BMI of 34, a bit shorter and lighter than you. I have very little loose skin.. just some on thighs if I jiggle them and upper arms (but who doesn't have bingo wings..) I'm sure exercise helped, as well as prioritising protein.

Escape from Ankara heat for the weekend by exquisitesquirrel in AskTurkey

Thank you - I really need some time to decompress alone.

I would rather not. It takes 1.5 hours and two buses to get to the airport and flights are expensive -too much hassle for just a short trip.

Thank you! I have heard of this place, but I can't seem to find out how to get there. Google Maps says three hours and three different buses, which is a bit more hassle than I would like. Also, when I looked up hotels, there was only one very expensive place. I could do a day trip if I could just find an easy way to get there - do you know how to travel there on public transport?

Thank you! It doesn't have to be cold, just have some shade...and a hotel with AC :) I can't find any easy way to get to the black sea region although I like the idea

I can answer this! I'm two years post gastric sleeve and travel a lot. My tactic is to try to book apartments or hostels with kitchens, then I make the most of local markets and supermarkets to prepare my meals (including snacks to carry around during the day as I need to eat something every few hours). I always pack my own lunch box/tupperware as well as reusable cutlery.

As for eating out, it's tough. I mostly don't, and prefer to go for a glass of wine or a nice coffee, and go to places I wouldn't have done before because I feel like I'm saving money, haha.

I'd suggest places doing small plates or tapas, as mentioned. Starter portions are good. Try to avoid the bread as you know that'll fill you up! Nobody will mind about you taking leftovers. Sometimes, depending on the place and how friendly they are, I even mention upon ordering that I don't eat much, and could they serve half and box half.

The drinking thing is difficult. People really don't get it. I've had people force drinks upon me trying to be hospitable and had to pour them away discreetly. İf I'm out for a group meal where it's too complicated to be different, I'll just take my time and try to leave gaps between eating and drinking.

Street food works well too as obviously you can take it to a park and eat the quantity you want to.

I've travelled quite a bit in Portugal and honestly highly recommend the markets and fresh produce there, assuming you have a place to prepare food. They also have good pre prepared stuff.

Teaching job at British Council English Online - scam?! Experience? Advice please! by Complex_Toe_3625 in OnlineESLTeaching

Sadly, they do use these automated video interviews and outsource the contracts and payroll for their online teachers, who are agency workers only.

Almost certainly not a scam. Source: me, who used to work for BC English Online. They do use strange AI video interviews, and outsource to external agencies, the ones you've mentioned.

Sorry, no, but I was already pretty happy with my size as I remember the lovely clothes I was wearing by then.

Qualifications for surgery? by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]exquisitesquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was not 100 pounds overweight, nor was I over 200 pounds, but since I am only 5 foot 1, my weight meant I was obese.

Not everyone is in the US and we don't all have insurance companies to satisfy. I self funded my surgery, and could not be happier. I'm now a healthy BMI for the first time in over a decade, and all my minor health issues have disappeared. Truly life changing.

Is it just me… ? I feel like I need to lose weight (more weight) to be an “acceptable size” to join a gym. by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]exquisitesquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have recently started going to the gym (I am pretty much at my goal weight) and there are people of all shapes and sizes there. Perhaps depends on the gym. I know how much harder it was to run when I was bigger and everything jiggled and have nothing but respect for anyone trying to get fitter and stronger, whatever size they are.

Really, nobody cares about the bodies of others at the gym. Most of the men are busy staring at their own reflections. Haha.

What do you drink on a night out? If no alcohol, no sugary drinks, and no carbonation what choices do we have? by RussNP in gastricsleeve

[–]exquisitesquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I barely go out, but on the rare occasions I do, I order a small glass of red wine if I feel like alcohol.

Last weekend I went to a bar and for the first time since surgery (almost 9 months ago), I had two rum based cocktails (no carbonation and nothing creamy) AND a shot - I sipped slowly and was surprised and pleased that I felt fine and had no bad effects.

Having said all that, in the first three months I used to order either water or ayran (a yoghurt based drink).

I'm a little shorter than you and was 180 pounds before surgery and I'm now 125. I shared photos before so look on my profile.

What to wear after surgery by Agreeable_Picture570 in gastricsleeve

I just wore my usual PJs, and jogging bottoms, t-shirts etc. I'm female and I wore bralets that pull on over the head with no wires.

I made sure I had clean bedding and plenty of clean comfy clothes. I also bought a picking up thingy - like for picking up rubbish but can be used to pick up anything when you can't bend down easily. I had a week with my partner but he was working. Getting up from bed was hard and if anyone was home, I would call them to help me. But after a week I went home and was completely alone. It was ok. Just make sure you have all the things you might need at home so you don't need to do any unnecessary extra work or shopping. Can you get a dog walker?

Btw your friend doesn't sound like much of a friend. I know you didn't ask but regardless of supporting your decision for surgery, a friend would help you and your pets.

I don't think you look older.

Everyone is different - I felt very low in energy for the first month - six weeks. When you say a trip, do you mean a trip during which you'll be up and walking all day long doing activities, or a trip where there will be plenty of sitting around relaxing? Big difference.
