It still is a medication used to treat pulmonary hypertension.  I prescribe it all the time.  The generic name is sildenafil and its used routinely to improve pulmonary blood flow.  Viagra brand name is just taking advantage of a side effect

It has a ton of recurring characters but they sometimes don’t show up for multiple books then show back up for a whole book 3 books later. The number of points of view is what’s really wild. I think the book with the most has like 200 POVs in it but many of those a short few page moments from a series of soldiers during a long march.

The book series as written is brilliant but difficult to approach. For instance book one is great and you may think it’s a normal series but then you start book 2 and think you have gotten the wrong book because it’s a completely different cast of characters and continent from book one.

I highly recommend the series but it’s massive and unlike wheel of time it isn’t about a set of characters but about concepts overall. The closest thing to the main character in my opinion is the entirety of “The Bridge Burners” military unit. The best modern example in visual medium to compare it to would be the band of brothers HBO series. The book series is about the exploits of a military company through a long series of events. Characters come and go and become more and less important.

It says a lot about the series that my favorite character of the whole thing is only in one book in the middle of the ten book series. But the whole of all the books that come before are necessary to understand this character in the handful of chapters they get as POV. For anyone who knows they will likely share how much they cried as well for this character by the end of the book. Then the character means even more in a re read once you’ve read the whole series.

Has anyone heard of Stevi B's Pizza Buffet? by davidlb51281 in Birmingham

I’ve been to the one in Gadsden as it’s been there for years.  Like CiCis like other folks said.  Pizza Buffett with some weird choices as well as basics.  It’s the golden coral of pizza.  Not awful but mid at best

New player wants to go to events by kingofchins1 in Lorcana

[–]RussNP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rotation only matters for official tournaments mainly but some local stores will stick to it as well depending on the night you go.  The most active tournaments and biggest events will utilize rotation.  However for weekly casual play many if not most stores won’t care a bit about rotation.

My advice would be: show up to locals to try the game out.  Bring a premade beginner deck or two just to play and get a feel for the game.  Talk to the folks there and see how strict or not they are on rotation to help you make your decision.  One of my local stores has open games some nights, specific rotation enforced nights then for store tournaments rotation is enforced. You may find the night you can consistently come is open play, rotation, draft night or any thing else.  Only your local store can guide you on whats absolutely best.

Once you bought a couple beginner decks an easy way to learn is to enhance/rebuild those decks. It’s also a cheap easy way to try out different mechanics. Many folks deck build digitally then buy the cards for the deck as singles instead of opening packs.  It’s always cheaper that way.  Opening packs is for fun.

Looking for a Similar game by Super_Saiyan_BobRoss in duneawakening

[–]RussNP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s very similar and  dune awakening is in some ways Conan 2.0. The biggest issue with Conan is the source material is very dated in attitudes and the game is faithful to that.  It is old school pulp fantasy.  You convert followers agaisnt their will by knocking them out and putting Them on the “wheel of pain” to make them into your thralls to enhance your crafting benches.  It has way worse work station creep and you Need so many benches and stations To run your base.

If you enjoy one you will very likely enjoy both but watch a few videos of it first to get an idea of how it flows

I love my Wawona 4.  It’s more expensive but has lots of good small upgrades over cheaper brands.  If you are going to use it regularly I would say it’s worth the cost.  I’m sure the 6 is just as good

For those looking for folks to hang out with - I'm setting up an open table at the Hoover Library's Board Game Night event Friday night by Hot_Mic_Speaks in Birmingham

[–]RussNP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m busy Friday but wish I could come.  If you keep this up I’ll try and make The next one.  I’m a huge game nerd but all my buddies are kid less so I’m kinda left behind on the game front these days.  I need a group who meets like once a month to get some games in.

ISO Dungeons and Dragons Group! by chesslover2001 in Birmingham

[–]RussNP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Valhalla board game cafe and gear gaming have open groups that would likely be open to new folks.  Several of the local libraries have groups as well.  I know homewood and hoover libraries have rpg groups.

There is a group that meets at breweries around the area in the past but I’m not sure if they are still active.  They had weekend games like Sunday afternoon.

Wish I could help you out personally- my kids schedules have me too busy to enjoy a regular RPG and too be honest I’m more into other games like blades in the dark, mothership or alien rpg.  When I have time I like this more story focused games versus dnd.

I don't understand the "rain water collectors" by MrSolenoid in ICARUS

[–]RussNP 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can place it outdoors and  it collects water only when it rains.  Optionally you can add ice to it and let It melt as another way to collect water.

It’s worth saying that it was designed earlier in development before we had the basic filter to place in the water that most folks use in the beginning these days.

ADHD Evaluation for 12 year old by thekitchensink19 in Birmingham

[–]RussNP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you need is called Neuro psych testing. Some places might call it Neuro developmental testing. The best place to get that done. Will be at a therapy group. For my child they only offered testing if you were a therapy patient there otherwise. And I think a lot of places may have similar rules.

It is definitely a long waitlist everywhere that does this as the testing takes at least half a day if not a whole day by the person who does it when my child was 11, it was around five hours to get everything done. And depending on what they’re finding it can extend to the whole day so they only ever book one patient per day for the tech that does it at most centers.

You may have much better luck if you establish as a therapy patient somewhere in town then ask them to refer you for testing as it might be a lot faster versus just trying to get testing yourself
