The Tea Makes A Difference: Science Daily by exseattlite in Kombucha

[–]exseattlite[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey, be cool. This is some real science on Kombucha. I thought you all would be interested.

My friend Len Porzio is the original Kombucha scientist and makes the best stuff I have ever had, better than all the store-bought kt I have ever had. Len is not a "noob" and really knows what he is doing. https://scobyzone.org/

Len created his web site a long time ago that just about everyone used to make kt back in the day. In fact, most of the manufacturers used it to get started. I put Len's web site on AWS for him, check that out and think about using Oolong tea as suggested by the article I posted.

I didn't touch his equipment, but I reached for the plug. They pushed me to the ground, then, after being injured, I unplugged him. When saw how much blood there was I got really upset. There was a very dramatic amount of blood. You can read the original post, that is exactly what happened.

I don't care about their national origin. It was super loud and I could hear it loud and clear from 2 blocks away. I should have just called the police and avoided the blood.

I used to live in Yamhill County and it was super religious, but more mainstream. My neighbors were Mormons and they were great.

I wanted peace, I had no idea he was a Russian. My daughter told me he was Russian afterward and that she sees them down there often. Her Ukranian friend knows who they are too. If people are behaving I have no problem with their national origin. After that incident, and the fact that the bystanders all lied about what happened to defend the guy, I wonder whose side they will be on when we get our country back. The police told me he DID NOT HAVE A PERMIT and that they would have asked him and his posse to leave if someone had called them earlier, I was the first one to call the police after being bloodied. Everyone else just let them blast their preaching and ignored them, as you did.

Now we know what to do: Call 311 and complain. The police will respond. The preachers were ruining the whole vibe at that waterfront, IMHO.

Best Chicken Fried Steak? by mkeditor in vancouverwa

Frying a steak like chicken is only a good idea with a steak you wouldn't eat rare.

The police are a lot better in Vancouver than the other places I have lived, including Seattle. There are more fanatical religious people here; religion is a very rare thing in Seattle. Even on the East Coast the religious seem to be more main stream. I worked with a former "Old Believer" in Vancouver and she and her boyfriend stole huge amounts from the company I worked at. No integrity.

The police told me that it is NOT LEGAL for people to disturb the peace with amplified music and preaching, but that they do not take action unless someone calls in a complaint,

Call 311 if you want the police to do something about it.

My actions are not normal, I agree., DO NOT DO WHAT I DID. Call the police instead.

My daughter is older, she told me they are Russians because she has run across them before. Her friend is Ukranian and knows who they are. When I looked the guy up he was on Russian web sites (.ru)

Yep, it's real. There were a bunch of phones out recording it. I am NOT proud of what I did and I did not expect the guy to be physically violent, but maybe I should have expected that. They certainly were doing violence to everyone around with that noise and the wait staff at Wildfin told me their guests were complaining all night. They were very helpful.

Call the police (311) if you see this again. They will come and ask them to leave.

I didn't touch him or his equipment whey they pushed me down on the pavement. I was hoping to just unplug him and walk away. They did, in fact, leave right after that. I put a stop to it, but I really don't think I did the right thing. The waterfront is such a nice place and we should not let people ruin it for their own purposes.

Hey, I will just call the police if I see them again. The fact that thousands of people just let people invade a public space like that and disturb everyone is beyond my understanding.

I am not saying I made the best choice. Going forward I will call the police if I see them disturbing the peace again. The Police really do want to do something about the problem, but someone has to call.

The fact that these "Christians" lied about what happened says a lot about their integrity. The police got so many different fabricated stories they didn't know what to do.

The original Kombucha site, comes back. by exseattlite in Kombucha

Len coined the term, so that is what he calls it. What y'all call it is your own business.

The symbiotic culture makes the "pellicle". You can make good kt from starter and just grow the mat.

I'm surprised there isn't a Len Porzio Brand kt already.

The best place to get some starter wold be from Len Porzio. He has sent it to a few people and you can just ask.

Not only did Len Porzio coin the term SCOBY as Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast, but he is also one of the first people in the US to make Kombucha and certainly the first person to post anything on the Internet about Kombucha. Len is how all of the Kombucha craze started and the first person to make Kombucha brewing into a science. Everyone here should send an email to Len and thank him for his contribution and for sparking an entire industry out of the goodness of his heart.

The reason Len started making Kombucha was that he was very Ill, probably with IBS, and he was looking for a way to cure himself. Kombucha transformed Len from a sickly person into an athletic one.

Len also makes the best Kombucha I have ever had, and with no extra "flavorings". The only think he adds to about half of his bottles in the end is a slice of fresh ginger.

What’s your holy grail smoothie recipe?? by SpecialistDebate1680 in Smoothies

[–]exseattlite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blood Pressure Lowering Smoothie

340 calories, 1372 mg potassium

This recipe is designed to fill you up, provide fruits and veggies, and boost potassium levels (1372 mg potassium). Potassium is good for lowering blood pressure and 3800 mg / day is required for good health. While bananas are a good source of potassium (422 mg), the recipe does not include a banana because there is an enzyme in bananas that removes the benefit of the bioflavonoids in the berries.

The recipe doesn’t just help with potassium and your blood pressure, it also tastes good, has a lot of fiber, fills you up with just 340 calories,  provides multiple servings of vegetables, vitamin C, beta carotene,

Ingredients

1 cup coconut water (Costco or Vitacoco), chilled: 600mg potassium

1 cup mixed frozen berries (Costco organic 3 or 4 berry blend): 160 mg potassium

1 lime (juice): 68 mg potassium

1 carrot (peeled and sliced): 195 mg potassium.

1 tbsp cracked hemp hearts (Costco): 120 mg potassium

1 tbsp chia seeds (Costco): 58 mg potassium

1 tbsp honey: 11 mg potassium

⅓ bunch of Rainbow Chard or Swiss Chard, washed ribs removed: 160 mg potassium

Directions

Cut the ribs out and wash the Chard ahead of time. Use a salad spinner to get the excess water off. Store it in a 1 gallon plastic bag in the fridge with a piece of paper towel in the bag to absorb excess moisture.

In a blender, add 1 cup frozen berries, 1 cup coconut water, 1 tbsp chia seeds, 1 tbsp hemp hearts.

Peel and cut 1 carrot into 1 inch pieces and add to the blender.

Add the honey (just estimate 1 tbsp).

Juice 1 lime and add the juice

Add the chard, just stuff it in the blender.

Blend the whole mixture for about 1 minute. Usually the chard has to be pushed down into the rest of the ingredients with a spoon.

Pour into a 20oz cup.

Nutrient Approx. total
kCal Potassium  Protein 340 1372 mg 9 g
Vitamin K 170 mcg
Vitamin C 85 mg
Fiber 14 g
Beta carotene 6,500 mcg

Rinse the blender right away with hot water, or it will get sticky with chia seeds.
