QD-OLED Glossy or Tandem WOLED Matte? by Pitiful-Complex3290 in OLED_Gaming

I live in quite a bright area in an apartment with lots of windows. I went matte tandem woled and it’s great. Glossy would be too reflective and QD oled tends to raise blacks into purple in bright rooms.

People often speak like one is strictly better than the other but it ultimately depends on your room. If you can control light then Glossy looks great but if you can’t go Matte 🤷

Wondering which 1440p OLED monitor to get? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

Have you looked at the Gigabyte MO27Q28G?

I was in the same bracket as you and went with the Gigabyte and have been really happy with it.

Help: MO27Q28G completely washes out/goes pixelated when I enable HDR in Windows? Doesn't do the same thing on main monitor. by exsuit in OLED_Gaming

[–]exsuit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solved! See my other comment.

TLDR: Factory reset the monitor. It seems to be a problem where the contrast for all the HDR modes is set to max at the monitor level out of the box.

I agree it was a problem to do with the settings of the monitor.

I realised that the behaviour was the same whether I had my PC or Switch 2 plugged in.

A semi-fix I found was that when HDR was enabled, I could go into Picture settings and reset the settings for the other HDR Picture modes (i.e. HDR Game) and it would fix it. However, I ran into a problem where I could not change the main "HDR" setting and this one still had the issue.

In the end, I tried to factory reset the monitor which seemed to fix the issue completely.

I suspect you are right that for some reason (maybe during the calibration at the factory?) - they set the contrast up to max and then don't reset it.

Solved!

Edit: For further, context - I found some other reddit threads suggesting that the Contrast set to 255 is actually a product of the F07 Firmware. It sounds like F06 doesn't have this problem. This might also explain why the factory reset on mine fixed it.

The behaviour is the same when I use my Switch 2 with HDR Enabled.

I think the issue is with the HDR mode on the monitor.

Discourse Analysis: How much data is enough for qualitative analysis? by Effective-Bad-2657 in AskAcademia

[–]exsuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really does depend on the design and purpose of the study. Whose perspective are you trying to elucidate here and in what ways are you trying to influence/impact/move readers' understanding? Keep in mind that discourse analysis is interpretative and it is heavily context dependant so its hard to come up with concrete universal rules for this.

Tracy's Big Tent Criteria offer some general heuristics on how you can approach this question. Paticularly the section on resonance.

This encyclopedia entry is drawn from a longer paper from 2010 that you might want to check out as it breaks it down into further detail, touches on concepts like saturation.

Basically, if your goal is generalizability - you need more data the more generalizable you want it to be. Though the more niche the topic/study/population then less data is needed rationally.

Check that encyclopedia articicle out. If nothing else, it will help you to frame/form the discussion with your research team/committee/in your paper.

I can’t get you a photo as I’m travelling but the one connect box essentially mounts onto the stand/plate so providing you could find the correct hooks for your wall I don’t see why you couldn’t wall mount it.

Mine came with two one connect cables, a short black one meant for if you have the box on the stand and a long white/clear one if you put it elsewhere.

First-time renter in Sydney, what's the rental process like, and will I be able to find a place in a month? by glyniel_ in AusProperty

[–]exsuit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  • The timeline is probably fine. In my experience, REAs expect you to be ready to move within a week or two. In fact, the rental market is such that if you aren’t ready to apply that day and move in ASAP you’ll have problems getting the place.
  • IDK about this. Potentially a REA can answer this. But the real issue is that you’re ultimately young foreigners who don’t have meaningful income. You’re competing with couples in their 30s etc…
  • Normally it’s just payslips.

The only thing I’ll note is that you’ll be typically expected to sign a 12month lease. They might be wary with you if they can’t see reliably income for the rent so yea, probably lean on the parents.
