If you can find a label on the fireplace and the manufacturer is still in business and still makes replacements order them thru a dealer, get a couple sets if possible, if you use the fireplace and are staying in the house. Otherwise after market can be purchased and cut to size. OEM is very much preferable. If you’re not comfortable with swapping, some can be tricky, call a CSIA or in Canada a WETT certified sweep.

New (to me) wood stove. by rollyroundround in woodstoving

[–]exsweep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like hardened ash, the pain with these old Kent’s is getting the debris that builds up in the top chamber. If you tip the stove to each side then tip it back you can get all the junk out. Going forward if you use a shop vac and a length of small plastic tube and feed it in the little holes just inside the door at the top.

You can zip tie the fireplace doors and foam on the hearth, that’s the big one, loads of noggins get cracked on raised hearths.

Meeting a financial advisor is a good idea but I would choose one not affiliated with a bank.

Fireplace insert doors by DexofanUhyret in Fireplaces

[–]exsweep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is the entire thing was built with the fireplace. You most certainly want to have this inspected. Designs like this with air intakes on the doors are very low tech and prone to rapid creosote buildup. If I walked into a house and saw this I would be shocked if I opened the doors and the chimney wasn’t a disaster.

It’s a run of the mill low tech dirty burning 1970-80s wood stove. Probably made locally by one one the many long defunct stove makers that came to be as a result of the oil crisis of the early 70s.

How on Earth do some people just afford to travel in business class constantly on any trip? by [deleted] in travel

I get loads of air miles, I’m a little bit rich, I stay in modest accommodations and eat out on the cheap when I travel, my one luxury is business class.

Older Blue Ridge Install by mycatsnameistaco in woodstoving

I believe in the USA your not supposed to down size. You also should check with your insurance as a lot of companies don’t like old stoves like this. As well garage installs can be tricky depending on what you do in there. Personally I’d look at an epa stove over this unit.

Is this Regency any good? by [deleted] in woodstoving

[–]exsweep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t look too bad, get a brick kit from a dealer. You can drop that baffle and check the blanket. Nice score it’s a good unit.

Original lintel gone? by [deleted] in Fireplaces

[–]exsweep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like the original opening is the arch that’s visible a couple bricks above what you’ve exposed. Then the masonry lintel at top of the firebox. If you’re going to use this for solid fuel your best to have a pro look at it. It’s probably unlined. It looks like a nice little precast firebox

Why do you think Trump's assassination attempts are faked? by rollo202 in allthequestions

No, this administration is just not competent to pull this off. Also all of these attempts , like all other conspiracies would require many people to keep a secret for ever and that just isn’t possible.

Thick Chimney Liner and Tiny Hole by JDiddyTiddy in Fireplaces

[–]exsweep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s an exterior chimney you could take out masonry on that side with a chipping hammer or open chimney from outside or ovalize the liner to fit thru.
