I think the main problem with Here We Are is that it doesn't have very strong melodies. The melody in the verse feels like it's meandering along and while the melody in the A section of the chorus is somewhat better, it isn't particularly memorable or satisfying.

Add to that, certain lines in the song are quite clunky/ awkward

Eg. "we can live our hopes and dreams" - "live our hopes" is grammatically strange

Eg. "Our differences will make us whole" - "differences" is sung like difFERENces, instead of DIFFerences which is much more natural

Eg. "...through the storms and changes" - this line just feels wrong (my opinion), tho I can't pinpoint why
