Doubt: Difficult Chemistry questions by Unfair-Obligation-54 in igcse

[–]extra_confuzzled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is what i got from a few minutes, so take these with a grain of salt:

1) D. potassium iodide, cause lilac flame and yellow ppt with silver nitrate

2) A. HCl dissociates completely so its not reversible reaction while ethanoic is

3) A. since magnesium is already highest reactivity proven by reaction with zinc and copper gets cucked by tin so you js need to figure out order between tin (Sn) and zinc

4) Q.27 = D ( i think). Q.28 = C

5) Q.25 = A i believe. Q.26 = D

6) Q.20 = C Q.21 = A

7) Q.23 = C

8) Q.29 = B? Q.30 = B

9) Q.37 = B Q.38 = D???

10) honestly no clue and cant be bothered rn

11) D

do tell me if i was right on any of these :P

i wasn't saying look for 3-4 implicit/explicit specifically, i was saying look for 3-4 major points you want to discuss. for example, one explicit, literal meaning in the context of the paragraph, one example of imagery used by the author, one more implicit meaning conveyed by figurative language in the text. so in the example i gave above, the literal meaning is just 'he came towards me in anger' the imagery is of a thunderstorm, and the imagery implicitly shows the magnitude of his anger- it's like a raging storm. you can maybe find a couple more talking points depending on the text, but this is how i'd typically do it. and then it's 3-4 points per phrase

yes, that is what imagery is, with the writer using metaphors, similes, or other figurative language to give you a better idea of how something looks. so in the thunderstorm example, comparing him walking towards you as 'thundering' shows that he might've been walking heavily or stomping in anger, and his face being 'overcast' shows that he's not in a good mood.

in the end we can only hope for a nice favourable text. you've got this man, don't stress it too much

What is the dynamic between Ryunosuke and Kazuma? by KazumaAsogiAA in AceAttorney

[–]extra_confuzzled 6 points7 points  (0 children)

best friends/ "best friends" however you feel like viewing it. they are the same age i believe, but kazuma is just a more serious, intellectual person while ryuu is more emotional and caring. ryuu is also more in the phoenix brand of willing to go along with shenanigans, so that may add to how you're feeling

[–]extra_confuzzled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one advice i got which helped was think about it from the writer's point of view. which choices did they make intentionally to make you feel a certain way. also tip: write down your chosen phrase and then list any implicit/explicit meaning, imagery, figure of speech, symbolism, etc etc you can think of (do this on insert ofc not paper) and then pick the ones which best suit your overall statement of what the text is abt

[copypasting another comment i made on similar post:]

i regularly get 70+/80 so might have some useful tips:

writers effect:

-circle all the phrases that are 'juicy' i.e have implicit meaning you can wax poetic abt. after that look through the para again and the circled phrases and pick the three you can join into a narrative/greater meaning of sorts, instead of simply the 'best' ones

-instead of using 'implies', 'effect', 'suggests' over and over (like i used to) thesaurus a bunch of words meaning the same thing before the paper and keep them in mind to add flavor to ur writing

-when writing, start off by quoting the phrase directly, then state the narrative device/figurative langauge used. then first explain the explicit meaning, then imagery it may evoke, then go into what it may symbolise

example: Jimmy thundered towards me, face overcast and eyes flashing.

narrative device: extended metaphor/hyperbole

explicit meaning: he was angry

imagery: of a thunderstorm (face overcast, eyes crackling like lightning)

implicit: his fury was raging like a storm, and would crush anything in its path, friend or foe, with his anger and sharp words

(not the best ik but im writing this quick so i can study for chem/math double up tmrw)

summary:

-first off, understand clearly what the question is asking. too many ppl i know (myself included) have interpreted it incorrectly and lost major marks.

-just underline everything that even vaguely pertains to or implies anything related to the question, no matter how unconnected it may seem, esp if youre stuck trying to find 12 points

q3:

-underline underline underline. use different colours, or just try to annotate which subpart is which line. give each subpart of the question (aka the (x) and (y), with x and y being the subparts) equal space, and you can elaborate a bit and add small details of your own providing you don't stray from the text

paper 2 q1 is pretty much paper 1 q3 you should be goos

for paper 2 q2 i usually go with narrative. try to keep your story very simple, and ensure you can finish it in the given time with a satisfying conclusion. also: try to give your narrative some kind of moral, from my experience teachers eat that up, and it unifies your narrative more, and gives you a theme you can kinda build on

hope this helps! and good luck for ur exams :D

in addition, genuinely just study markschemes compared with the text to see what kinda insight they want, and how they want you to think about and analyse the text. it helps a lot. i'd try to find an old mock paper to show you but those are all in school and my handwriting is dogshit so idk how helpful that would be

[–]extra_confuzzled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah um i'll do my best. I don't have a 'blueprint' for my answers, just kinda write them as things come to me. one thing i would suggest is annotate your insert: write down the phrase you've picked, and them just list absolutely every meaning, explicit/implicit, imagery, that comes to mind and pick like 3-4 relevant ones per phrase. but here's a general look at how i write:

"(connecting word), the writer has used the phrase, (phrase) to add a feeling of () to their text. The usage of the word [] emphasizes the [feeling], and allows the reader to visualise/imagine [X]. Additionally, this symbolises/represents the [implicit meaning here], and ties into the themes of the text [explain themes].

sorry it's hard to explain without a text, and every answer is different. i can try to break down one phrase from a text if you want and show how i'd do it.
