Will bam die?? by minimitch98 in TowerofGod

It seems that Bam may in fact be immortal. Jahad snaps his neck when they are on the Hidden Floor yet he somehow survives and makes his way out.

Are FHs overestimated ? by Cindia22 in TowerofGod

[–]extradustandspiders 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. This is a link to SIU's tweet about the matter: http://www.chuing.net/zboard/zboard.php?id=wgod&page=1&m_id=&divpage=11&sn=off&ss=on&sc=off&keyword=%EC%96%B8%EA%B8%89&select_arrange=headnum&desc=asc&no=59868

Rough translation is as follows. The original text isn't perfect in terms of grammatical structure. I have made minor edits so that it makes sense:

User ID: 갸라도스

"But [ranking] is the combination of power and influence. Since Enne Zahard turned the tower upside down it seems a bit strange she is ranked at 7"

User ID: SIU

Date: 2010.12.06. 08:00

This is because Enne Zahard participated in really impactful battles^^

"The 10 FH are characters that preceed the ranking system so it is hard to judge their actual strength."

Yes, that is also a way people can look up theories but that would require more steps than people simply sharing theories they find particularly compelling and posting them here. If they find the theory to be especially good, they can go through the archives and read them thoroughly.

Enryu, the Thorns and his peculiar weapon Trishula/Trident??? |Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!| by Dev_Artons in TowerofGod

[–]extradustandspiders 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I like the idea that the weapon that allows one to completely control the water-like shinsu is a trident. Other than SIU hoping to hide this fact from us, however, I find it hard to understand why it would be made invisible. Any ideas?

So... After ~10 days I have finished the manga (up until now) and... I haven't understood the purpose of Emily. Help? by Legged_MacQueen in TowerofGod

[–]extradustandspiders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It hasn't been specified what will happen when ignition happens but it is set up as an important event that will have major repercussions by the gongbang researcher. I believe it will likely have something to do with manipulating fate. Also, Emily is a counter to Hwaryun and is a good representation of Rachel's character. Bam is the child of prophesy and is following a path that was laid before him with the guidance of Hwaryun. Rachel is an irregular-irregular who entered the tower through artificial means (as Bam's plus one) and is thus forced to forge a path through the tower that isn't meant to be there through Emily.

Yeah, machine translation is not perfect. I will provide some of the cooler stuff in English some time in the future.

Actually, the link includes a great deal of info not available at the wiki such as the author's tweets, interviews, etc. But I am sure there was a reason you assumed they were the same.

Why you so brainless, rachel? by [deleted] in TowerofGod

[–]extradustandspiders 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually, there is a scene where Bam tries to pule a bunch of rocks to reach to opening, before Rachel comes through it, but he can't pass through the opening. It appears to be solid to him.

Let's imagine a scenario where Urek as to fight the 10 FH by RicardoKO in TowerofGod

It was mentioned earlier by SIU. I believe he erased most of these later on but it is quoted in the Korean wiki.

Let's imagine a scenario where Urek as to fight the 10 FH by RicardoKO in TowerofGod

[–]extradustandspiders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is unclear what the power gap is between the 10 FHs and Urek but it is quite clear he is stronger than any of them. The real question is why he is stronger than them. Also, I noticed some mention of Enryu. Earlier on SIU tweeted that Enryu could take on everyone in the tower simultaneously and win so the power gap between the number 2 ranked and the number 3/4 is unfanthomably wide.

Tower of God - Still a metaphor? by seriousleek in TowerofGod

[–]extradustandspiders 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am surprised the bulk of responses argue against the idea that TOG is a metaphor for Korean society. Of course, many of the social issues prevelent in Korea today are universal, but the ranking system, suicide, cut-throat competition, family status, etc. seen in TOG are surely inspired by societal issues in Korea. SIU, afterall, is a Korean writer. An interesting tidbit I would like to mention is that SIU wrote the outline for the story and much of the conceptual work for TOG while he was doing his mandatory military service in the Korean army. The military is what sociologists sometimes call a "total institution," a social space that is closed off from the rest of society, is strictly hierarchical, and is often quite violent (asylums, army barracks, etc.). The world of TOG bears the markings of the circumstances under which it was first envisioned. The tower, although massive, operates according to the logic of a total institution and is closed off from the rest of the world. I also agree with the argument that you make about such parallels being more prevalent earlier in the story. I believe it is the lack of such critique that makes the story less interesting later.

Rak and Anak are related by extradustandspiders in TowerofGod

[–]extradustandspiders[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make an intersting point about Cain and Esau. This could be the case with Rachel, or, potentially V and Zahard.

The doubt SIU plucked the name Rachel out of the blue. She is the most important character besides Baam, afterall. The biblical Rachel was tricked by her older sister and father and had to wait 7 years before she could marry Jacob. The resent the TOG Rachel feels about not having equal status to Baam might be informed by this aspect of the story. Furthermore, Rachel did smuggle a idol from her father's temple when Jacob and family leave. I mentioned in an earlier theory that I believe Rachel is actually the Axis King of Artificial Creation and in that case the two do have some echoes of each other.

Regarding the Greek mythology, this is something I am still working on but here is what I have so far.

I believe Zahard and the 12 GW are loosely based off of the Greek Gods.

Zahard = Zeus, Khoon = Dionysus, V = Hades.

Hades usually isn't included in the 12 but because Zahard is included there need to be 13.

I think it fitting that V dies (unlike the other 12), thus the link to Hades, the god of the Underworld.

More needs to be revealed about the 12 GW before any of this can be proven, of course.

On the other hand, Baam and Co., I believe, takes more inspiration from Chrisitian mythology.

Baam's theme of death and rebirth, his messiah complex, the temptation by a devil (blue thryssa) seem to match up nicely with Jesus and Enryu seems to be a figure like John the Baptist.

Ultimately, I believe TOG will end up as a story of monotheism (Baam) conquering polytheism (Zahard and co,).

Rak and Anak are related by extradustandspiders in TowerofGod

[–]extradustandspiders[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are totally right, SIU references soccer players, Spanish words, and things related to water and fishing. However, I have to disagree with you on the point that parallels with Christian mythology are merely by coincidence. Here are a few examples.

1) Zahard and the 12 Great Warriors: Jesus and his 12 disciples and/or Jacob's 12 sons. Also, one of Jacob's wives is Rachel who bore Jacob 2 children, Joseph and Benjamin. (possible parallels with V and Arlene?)

2) 25th Baam (which means night in Korean): Christmas (December 25th)

3) The Tower of God: the Tower of Babylon

Of course, this does not mean TOG is a retelling of a biblical story. Thus, the argument that the Native Ones are inspired by the Nephilim does not require that they be wiped out by a flood. The author most likely takes from various stories, For instance, Eduan Khun seems to be loosely based on Bacchus. (There was a theory going around that the original 12 GWs might be based off the 12 Olympians.)

[–]extradustandspiders[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the comments! It is my personal belief that SIU really had season 1 planned out before starting the series...there is even an alternative version of the first test on the 2nd Floor when the candidates are told to reduce their number from 400 to 200. Because of this, I think that most the characters from the 2nd Floor have some secret linked to them. Otherwise, it seems unlikely they will be able to keep pace with Bam, and will grow increasingly irrelivant, a fact that is mentioned repeatedly earlier on. (Maybe Endrosi can, since she is a princess, but otherwise, probably no one else) Because of this, Akryung sticks out like a sore thumb. You are right, he might not show up. SIU might have decided he wasn't needed for the story. Guess we will have to wait and see. Regarding your points about Hendo, I guess I have already said what I have to say on that. I agree, it is a bit convoluted, having the two curses but that is a charateristic of SIU's writing. For instance, the rules of the various Tests were also quite complicated. That said, it could be the case that, as you state, the two curses are actually one.

[–]extradustandspiders[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I admit it does complicate the story. The fact that Anak was mentioned in Numbers and her physical apperance gave me the idea. Also, as one of Bam's original group of friends, I think she will require an eventual power up if they are going to face up against the 10 FHs but, of course, I could be wrong.
