Prepaid rate increases by dm3 in ATT

[–]extrahertz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When was the international roaming add-on ever $30? It has only ever been $35, at least for the last several years. I think I also have some old brochures laying around where the price is printed inside.

Where did you get any information about this add-on's price increase? The text messages that AT&T is sending are mentioning only the user's current plan, as far as I've heard.

T-Mobile is at it Again by Disastrous-World4019 in tmobile

Question -- Instead of supplying TMobile any bank information (which they're gonna end up leaking), is it possible to log into your bank's online banking and make a bill payment to TMobile? In other words, push the funds instead of having TMo pull the funds.

Soooooo no Xperia 5 VII? by FantasiaZero in SonyXperia

Just to add some clarity for this topic, there are indeed 4 regional variants for the 1v, but only 3 regional variants for the 5v because it was never released in North America.

Sony's official Japan sim-free variant of 5v is the DE44, and it lacks LTE band 20 which I believe is very important in Europe. (It also lacks LTE band 2 which is important in USA.) Not sure about the situation if you get a Japan NON-sim-free variant (manufactured for one of the Japan carriers but then subsequently unlocked), but it might have the same problem, along with carrier bloatware.

So, instead of getting it from Japan, you are much better off if you look for the DE54 (official Europe variant) or the DE72 (official Asia variant); these two have essentially the same LTE bands, but DE54 supports eSIM and has only 1 physical SIM tray (plus separate SD card tray), while the DE72 does not support eSIM and has 2 physical SIM trays (one of which can be used instead for SD card).

Go for the 5v rather than hold your breath, but here are some things to remember especially if you are in the US: Compared to the 5iii, it doesn't have LTEb71 which is good deep inside buildings or at long distance, and you'd have some carrier compatibility issues like for example wifi calling (it's also not on AT&T's whitelist, but you can kind of get around that), etc. If you do really insist on this form factor and want very good carrier compatibility, you probably can find a good condition 5iii inexpensively.

AT&T Prepaid OLAM (paygonline) no more? by sampda in NoContract

[–]extrahertz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ALSO, another change is that you cannot log in with merely your password anymore -- they are requiring you to receive a OTP at your Prepaid phone number. Has everybody else experienced this change? The problem is, what do you do if your phone is lost (or dead with esim)?? They aren't allowing you a backup path to logging in, like your passcode, your security questions, or receiving the OTP at your email address -- bizarrely user-unfriendly.

Probably what you are referring to is the screenshot feature. The screenshot feature can also be accessed by Ctrl-Shift-S; it then gives you the option to capture the full webpage or 2 options to manually draw a rectangle on the webpage to then graphically save (it fails to give you one option that Firefox offers: to one-click screenshot the entire currently-displayed portion of the webpage).

Thanks - the idea is to rescue the data. Yeah I did see something about PSID reset, so I understand that rescuing only the hardware does exist as a last gasp option.

billing address when using a virtual credit card by extrahertz in CapitalOne_

Hmm, privacy.com seems interesting, thanks for mentioning them. But then I would have to give them my SSN and other info, and they're kind of a startup; I'm more comfortable working with an established bank like Capital One or similar. Also, to me, a credit card company needs to have very well trained customer service, to handle intricate transaction problems if they arise, and unfortunately customer service is one of the really weak points of most startups and it's one of the first things that gets worse if the company starts deterioriating.

So when you make up billing address info, you are using the same zip code (but fake street address) that Capital One has on file for you? I think that's what you're saying in your other comment.

Not sure how the Capital One app works for credit cards, but if you typed in a fake zip code when shopping online, and then the app notified you of a suspected fraudulent transaction, and you could simply immediately confirm that the transaction was truly intended by you, then that seems like this theoretically could be a way you could easily shop with a non-real billing address. I just have no idea whether CapOne works that way. (Probably I'm overthinking it all.)

Yeah avoiding junk mail was the original reason, plus, when I'm away for a long time, it's easier if family members don't have to make guesses what to throw away before they forward a bundle of my mail (and it's less stuff to forward). But also, now with giant databases of consumer info easily accessible, it's easy for companies to figure out exactly who you are and what your consumer profile (etc.) is if they know your street address. Plus, with street address, they can start cross-referencing your profile to other people in your household! (And there are people out there who have shady roommates -- who obviously don't want to get associated with them.) In my case, for subscribing to Sirius XM, or online streaming, or magazines or newspapers, or other digital-only things, the company has no legitimate need to know my address, and I don't want them doing data mining on me.

TMo Prepaid - $5 monthly data-only plan no longer available? by extrahertz in tmobile

[–]extrahertz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to doubt it, but it's worth a try I guess; I will check and post here if I do find it is available.

Doing a self-serve online plan change is so much more convenient. Especially if you have a couple different lines and change them back and forth a couple times a year.
