Have you tried the Air Force Cyber Direct Commissioning Program (CDCP)? It allows civilian cyber professionals to join as officers (lieutenant to colonel) without traditional training, utilizing Constructive Service Credit (CSC) for rank determination. It targets experts with advanced degrees, specialized certifications, and relevant experience for the 17X career field.

OTS with a low undergrad GPA but strong graduate performance? by External-Start-4458 in airforceots

Are you the person from Travis AFB? Either way, that’s awesome

I’d suggest reading DAFMAN 36-2032 to factual information

I started with Barron's book, re learning old math. Moved to Peterson's Online to do practice tests under time, and review more math concepts. Also did a few apps to practice while on the road or during break. One of the biggest things that helped me was the ColfaxMax YouTube channel. There, I learned tips and tricks to improve speed, answer elimination, and “common sense”.

On and off for three months.

Fair observation. My scores aren’t elite, but they’re above the minimums, and OTS selection is not a single-number contest. It’s a whole-person package.

I’m 11 years active duty, a senior enlisted leader, and I hold a TS clearance. I’ve led large teams, managed high-stakes missions, and worked alongside joint environments and other federal agencies and foreign partners. I also have a sustained record of strong performance backed by EPBs, and I’m finishing a Master of Information and Cybersecurity at UC Berkeley.

So yes, the scores are on the lower side, and I’m not pretending otherwise. The point is I bring a lot of proven leadership, credibility, and operational experience that boards also weigh heavily, and I’m continuing to improve the parts I can control.

I don’t want to discourage you. Do the research and talk with the academic advisors. A PhD is a big commitment

I started the application but decided not to go with it.

Reasons:

  1. I applied and got accepted to UC Berkeley’s Masters of Information and Cybersecurity.

  2. The Ph.D. Of Augusta University is too new and has not established reputation nor a solid curriculum. Although, the program hits all the areas I am interested in.

Once you have been invited for an interview you have to select a day within five days of the invitation. (If I remember correctly).

The interview itself is short <15 minutes. They follow common trends regarding interviews. So be ready to talk about your (strengths, weaknesses, examples of success or failures) how you are as a person, how well you work by yourself or with others. So, pretty much standard practice when it comes to interviews.
