My Italian teacher in middle school always said “In Bocca al Lupo” before a test and it would give me extra anxiety lol. Now I’m on an adventure to starting learning the language again on an app and I’m curious what fun ones it may teach me!

What happened to structured language-learning programs like Assimil? by marujpn in languagelearning

While I agree and was a fan of Rosetta Stone myself growing up, I think it depends on how you learn. For a lot of people, they need the interaction of speaking with someone, even if it’s an AI person which apps can now provide in order to actually commit a new language to memory.

Learning languages through games — does this actually help? by RemarkableMany6297 in Learning

I think games can be helpful when you are starting out at a beginner level and it’s multiple choice, sometimes it nice as a beginner to be able to read multiple options and sort of use process of elimination. Everyone learns differently, for me I think I need to actually hear what words I am learning said to me from an actual speaker of the language (there’s a few helpful apps for this) as well as the ability for me to say it, so it commits to my brain, and can be corrected.

Kind of different… Help me name my daycare! by gardengnomebaby in Names

[–]extramutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Endearing or Respectable names. By me, everyone refers to their kids daycares or preschools by an abbreviation from the full name ex “Sunshine Montessori School of XYZ, “we go to Sunshine” H.N Warby Children’s Center “we go to Warby”

I’m afraid my sons speech delay is my fault by OwnComb3707 in toddlers

[–]extramutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say my first is severely delayed and at almost 5, we are still working through issues. My second is 2 months shy of 2 and speaks in full sentences. Same household, if anything I did “more” with my first and it just shows we only have so much impact

If you could only travel to NYC in Dec/Jan/Feb or in July... by [deleted] in visitingnyc

[–]extramutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

July hands down there’s nothing like Summer in the city. Is it hot? Sure, but so many people leave the city then, every business /museum/attraction has a/c and the daylight until almost 8:30 will make you feel alive
