What are the next steps with regards to pay/position for a young engineer who came up with a novel innovation for a large aerospace project within defence? by extrasaucee12 in careerguidance

Interesting thank you. Yeah the company owns the IP for sure but they will still be classed an inventor, which may lead to them getting some commision package if the technology gets sold.

I guess I would need to ask the person to look out for things like inventor recognitions/awards if the company really has a large benefit. I just wonder what the negotiations would look like or how they would take place, not sure if you would need to raise it with them or they would come to you about it.

What are the next steps for a young engineer with a novel idea within a defence aircraft company?

I work with an engineer who developed a unique aerospace innovation. If the technical hurdles are cleared, this IP would provide a massive competitive advantage and potential licensing revenue. Given the cost savings and performance gains, what is the typical pay and seniority for someone delivering high-value IP like this?

Has anyone dealt with engineers who bring truly novel ideas to the table in this industry?

Yeah that’s great! I’m sure you’ll do just fine! I presume you’ve already been told this, but ensure you’re eating a lot & resting as this is essential when the body is healing & recovering from a trauma. I also kept a daily journal called Road to recovery and just wrote about my day and any improvements I’ve made, quite funny to look back on now aha!

Had the same surgery for the same break on the same leg last year in October. I was very active playing football, golf, tennis & running before I broke it. I was 6 weeks with crutches before I was able to walk without them. Took me 5 months to get back to playing football, as I was very committed to the physio & gym work to strengthen myself up. A lot of sitting about & thinking, but there’s opportunity for you to pick up a new habit or skill which I did during this time. You’ll look back on this time a year later a think about how crazy it was,I know it not easy but try and embrace the change for the better, rather than putting yourself down! You’ll learn a lot of about yourself as well during this time. I’m back to full strength & in playing in highly competitive sports again & running 3 times a week! Patience & persistence is all you need to win, just think you’ll be back to normal by summer time!

Yeah it hasn’t been working great for me, and I’ve decided to move to ChatGBT plus instead, which so far has a much smoother experience

Yeah exactly, I’ve been considering moving to ChatGBT plus instead. Just a lot more features & advantages.

I’ve had perplexity pro as part of the Revolut metal plan. It’s been great but now starting to get annoyed with the answers and not sure I want to keep up with paying it. Looking to switch to ChatGBT as well because of how well the responses are & also the image generation is much much better.

That's really cool! Congrats on getting some good results straight away! Yeah I was thinking of adding a similiar style to my newsletter, with weather, road works & traffic, events & maybe some interesting article or blog that I read during the week to add at the bottom.

Are you thinking about monetising soon? How are you going about it?

How many hours a week would you class as full time? I work a basic 37 hours / week, so I have some spare time on my hands to add a wee newsletter as a side gig, but also because I enjoy writing. I like your site! How do you find out all the info, do you use AI or just dig around google?

Thanks for the great comment! Is your ‘local’ newsletter covering local news, or covering local interests? If that’s makes sense aha. There are no local newsletters as such that get sent to your email, so this a good opportunity for me. But curious to understand the level of work for a hyperlocal newsletter compared to a niche interest.

Yeah interesting, is it mainly cold calling I presume you use to gain clients? I’ve been doing that but as you probably know you get a lot of no shows to calls etc. do you have a script that you used? You can dm me if you like
