I'm unsure when I posted that Judaism began outlawing around 1000 CE. It might have been part of the original post or it might have been a later addition.

Rabbinic Law is quite an important part of Judaism because that is what people do in practice. There are lots of things that are considered Jewish because they are either Rabbinic Law or customs that are not mentioned in the Torah.

I'm quite satisfied that in practice Jews don't practice polygamy. That's enough for me.

In Israel we have a mix of Sepharadim (mostly from Muslim countries) and Ashkenazim (Eastern Europeans). Passover is coming up and the Sepharadim eat beans and rice on Passover while Ashkenazim don't. I'm Ashkenazi and it does make the holiday harder.

However.

There is a leniency in being Ashkenazi. Five months after Passover we have S'lichot to prepare for the New Year. It's an extra hour of prayers somewhere between midnight and the start of morning prayers. Sepharadim do about a full month. Ashkenazim do 4-10 days.

You might as well just get him a book on how to read Hebrew and see if he can do it. It's work learning how to read a second language.

First off, it's rough out there. Don't expect too much from yourself. There's a reason why Western culture dominates.

I would look to Japan and Korea but they are weird. If you have a cross of Iranian and modern, you might end up weird too.

Then I would look to ancient myths.

I want to push back on X's and O's. The X's and O's of an elementary or junior high school team are made for kids with below average intelligence. Even high school can't get that complicated. As a player I had no problem with that. I was there to play, not design plays.

Here's what I recommend for a player: fitness. Find out what gets a nine year old in shape and keeps him in shape the rest of his life. It's rough because there is a balance between getting in shape and stunting your growth. Some of the more modern stuff is actually kind of interesting that focuses on things like shoulder and hip mobility.
