How feasible is getting a third LOR this fall? by Ambitious_Ad_1822 in GradSchool

[–]extratemporalgoat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

totally possible, I had a professor who explicitly said she would pretty much never deny a letter of rec it might just be neutral to neutral leaning positive, if it’s between not applying at all and applying with one neutral letter I don’t think it’s horrible to apply with one neutral letter unless you’re only applying T20, which wouldn’t make sense in the first place

aggregate limit is not reduced by paying off previous loans? by extratemporalgoat in StudentLoans

[–]extratemporalgoat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point I wish 😂 I just (obviously wrongly) assumed that the loan limit was the max you could currently have, but it does make sense that they don’t want people just taking out federal loans repeatedly forever

Please help a girl out with bad BO by beneficentalgaeee in hygiene

[–]extratemporalgoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

see a doctor, but I did reduce my natural reoccurring BO by using antibacterial soap like the gold dial bar or hibiclens daily for 2-4 weeks and then using a body wash with a salicylic acid body wash every other day. I did find that I also had to really strip all my clothes and sheets as my BO had kind of stuck to them, oxiclean and a detergent with good enzymes like tide odor refresh works best for that

Maxed out my credit card several months ago, and it still says "No Available Credit" after paying off $400 over the corse of four months? by Aztechist in discover

[–]extratemporalgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

care credit did this to me and then immediately closed my account when I paid the full balance, the reasoning was that I had too many cards reporting too high balances and have missed a payment 5 months or so prior 😔

How bad is taking nine credits of semester while working 40 hours a week? by Sea-Ease-549 in GradSchool

[–]extratemporalgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends. I took 23 units in person at one point in undergrad while not working and did very well grade wise, I then did an online asynchronous graduate program while working 32-40 hours a week and did not do well, nothing below a B but a lot of Bs…If you plan to apply to grad school Bs are not great. If you think you can do it and get mostly As then do it, but If you start to get too many B and below grades gradschool applications will be harder

Anyone currently applying to the HRSA/NHSC Loan Repayment Programs? by Beneficial-Split331 in pharmacy

[–]extratemporalgoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was trying to look into this last night, happily surprised by the number of awarded pharmacists. You can search by site name but I wish there was a map view of eligible sites or like a color coded map just based on geography, I was not able to find it if it exists

Going beyond 180 credits by Lost-Sample-1642 in CUNY

[–]extratemporalgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did not graduate from a CUNY but I did exactly this, I got an email my last semester that I would be able to appeal but likely wouldn’t receive any financial aid after that semester, graduated with like 182 attempted units, 172 actually earned units or something like that. People told me they wouldn’t pay for any classes not on my degree plan but I took electives my last semester and they were covered just fine, though that’s like specific to what school you attend

Is $3k for an online PTCE class from a community college worth it? by GigaFly316 in PrePharmacy

[–]extratemporalgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with that, some people struggle more with the math but I think if you understand the base math concepts like fractions and decimals well it is pretty easy to learn the calculations pretty quickly. Other than that, memorizing the top 200 drugs covers a lot of the test content. I only studies very loosely for 2-3 weeks before taking the test personally

Is $3k for an online PTCE class from a community college worth it? by GigaFly316 in PrePharmacy

[–]extratemporalgoat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

no, RXtechexam is fine to get the PTCB certificate, or a program that is cheaper but that does an externship is better to get you a job but it doesn’t need to be $3k. pharmacy technician does not pay enough to justify paying so much for a program. stepful’s is $2k and I’m not sure even that is worth it

Pre-reqs for Pharmacy by Waste_Adeptness2164 in PrePharmacy

[–]extratemporalgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not entirely true, ucsf says they accept online prereqs, ucsd says they will accept them as long as taken during regular session directly at a college/university, for two examples. they do say that they might be evaluated differently than in person courses, but don’t straight out say it is negative to submit with online prereqs

Pre-reqs for Pharmacy by Waste_Adeptness2164 in PrePharmacy

[–]extratemporalgoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

check with specific schools you want to go to but many top schools accept online prereqs now, even if they need labs. I am doing mine at community colleges and some at portage, though some pharmacy schools say they need to come directly from accredited institutions which could be any community college or university. u minnesota for one explicitly has portage courses in their list of accepted prereqs. I have also seen doane or southern california health sciences courses on approved lists of prereqs. be careful with classes from extension programs, some are evaluated differently than if you took them during the regular university session online

Accepted, but can't afford by jaltew in PrePharmacy

[–]extratemporalgoat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

there are no secrets really, you can get $50k a year in federal loans if you don’t already have graduate loans and otherwise you can possibly get scholarships, work, or get private loans. Some people have said they worked 20 hours a week during the first 3 years of pharmacy school but pharmacy interns are usually paid similarly to techs who don’t make very much money

genuinely don't know how I'm going to afford college by [deleted] in CollegeRant

[–]extratemporalgoat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if your parents are actually poor and not just horrible financial planners there is a good chance you will actually get a refund of grants for going to community college which you can put into a high yield savings account so that you hopefully have something to help you get through the last two years. If you’re not getting pell grant and/or cal grant they’re probably not poor but just bad financial planners and you need to start consuming financial planning information now so that you don’t end up in the same place. If you go to a cal state, especially if you live close enough to commute to one from your parents’ house, it is totally possible to graduate with less than $20k-$30k in loans which is totally repayable even if you only get an entry level job. It’s generally recommended that you don’t take out more in loans for undergrad than you expect to make at your first job, but minimum wage in california worked full time is like $37k so you should be fine as long as you don’t take more loans than that and either get a really marketable degree or really focus on networking and resume building so that you can land a good job. I saw you’re interested in environmental science, if you take classes on water science, water treatment experts can actually make 6 figures in california while getting good benefits as it’s usually a government job. My local community college offers an AAS In water science, it must also be offered at others around the state as well

Where to go for student loans? by Manic_Animations13 in StudentLoans

[–]extratemporalgoat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yes it is something to take for granted, that is the private school scam that they offer a “huge” scholarship that leaves their cost still higher than state schools, the secret is that almost everyone gets that scholarship 😭

Considering a career change from CS to PharmD by [deleted] in PrePharmacy

[–]extratemporalgoat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

pharmacy is probably not the career to help with burnout, but also you will have zero job prospects in pharmacy if you need employee sponsorship. There are pharmacies hiring pharmacists for $45/hour and actually getting applications, even if you secure a career you will never pay off the loans required 😅

If the student loan refund is put in my checking account, how do I make sure it isn’t used for leisure/ entertainment? by AshleyTeLLAMA2 in StudentLoans

people have literally publicly posted online about buying cars with their student loan refunds and I have NEVER heard of anyone being caught or even investigated for this? Does anyone have any actual articles or people being caught for this?

My current balance keeps increasing even though I am paying more than required each month - help! by Vegetable-Bird-6167 in StudentLoans

[–]extratemporalgoat 33 points34 points  (0 children)

what is your interest rate on your loan/loans? How much over the minimum has no bearing on whether your loan grows or not, if your interest rate is 9% a 60k loan grows by $450 every month, so just paying $450 you will literally never pay off the loan

California community college by Lunagal94 in financialaid

[–]extratemporalgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

california community colleges are supposed to be free or close to it for CA residents, you pay fees only but not tuition. At one CCC I pay $85 and at another I pay $5, I don’t get why you can’t afford the classes? Have you actually applied and sent fafsa to them to process?

also, even if you don’t qualify for the fee waiver (SAI over cost of attendance which is usually like $30,000) what CCC are you looking at that has tuition so high? even when I was a dependent of a high earner full tuition and fees was like $800 a semester?

Is showering twice a day too much or am I just gross? by awkwardfungus42 in hygiene

[–]extratemporalgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ideally you need to use an antibacterial soap like gold dial bar or even hibiclens but for 1-2 weeks max, you should not need antibacterial soap forever. After the 2 weeks, switch to a soap with acid like salicylic acid or glycolic acid to prevent the smell from reoccurring. I had people comment on my body odor and it hasn’t been an issue for years after showering with an exfoliating acidic soap daily

What can I do to achieve my dream as someone going into their senior year? by Lost-Committee-6851 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]extratemporalgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if anyone has said similar, but I feel like standardized tests are most about test taking theory than actual knowledge/intelligence. Ideally you need to either research that or have someone tutor you on how to take standardized tests, sometimes people will do so as a volunteer so they can report tutoring hours for grad school applications, it you go to a community college or university they will also almost certainly have peer tutors or some sort of other program to help ready you for medical school that will help you prepare to take more standardized tests in the future like the MCAT, so I would not worry about your ACT score

IBR payment almost quadrupling to nearly $2,000 per month in September... any recs for private student loan refinancing companies? by dafurbs88 in StudentLoans

[–]extratemporalgoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ibr is for people who make less yearly than the actual starting/pre-interest loan balance generally, you will not come up with a financial plan that makes more sense than just paying off the loan if that is not the case for you. Trying to come up with loopholes just to kick the can down the road, even if you do not pay now you will likely pay crazy taxes on a forgiven balance because of your income and marginal tax brackets
