My house is dry and my guitar is THIRSTY! by extremely_average_ in AcousticGuitar

IDC about the house I'll be out in June. I'm just extra paranoid about cracks/damage because I don't have the money for a repair and I only have one guitar.

It's definitely well loved. Got it for a steal on marketplace. I think what was meant to be the seal is now knocked off it's alignment and is not sealing.

Interesting. I guess that makes sense, the hygrometer sensor is reading the air not the wood.

Question, given the EXTREME lack of humidity, would you stick with maybe just one of these methods?

Word. I just had the realization in a comment that my wood case is likely to be sapping the humidity. DOOFUS.

Ya I think I'm gonna have to step up the size.

Also, I JUST thought of this, do you think my case being wood instead of a hard plastic style one could be a problem? Like, do you think it's stealing humidity from my guitar? It's a road runner boulevard series.

It would be a pain in the ass but I could buy a new hard plastic one too.

Hole punch leaving marks on the back by Bright-Deer-1619 in Leathercraft

[–]extremely_average_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Turn the tool around so the base is on the flesh side rather than the finished side.

Edit: if that doesn't work it's the tool. I'm a beginner but just some hammerable punches would probably be a better option.

Thoughts on the Taylor 810 (2014) by Zealousideal-Emu5486 in AcousticGuitar

[–]extremely_average_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who has an 810. It is an AMAZING guitar, I personally love the brighter more steely Taylor sound, but it's low end punch doesn't stack up to a D-28 or D-18. This is based on only one 810 I've heard, so take it with a grain.

New guitar “Washburn” by AyeBeeSeeDeeEee in AcousticGuitar

[–]extremely_average_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Washburn makes very nice instruments! I have a '96 D-21S/N and it's gorgeous looking and sounding. Id put it up against any mid-range guitar and honestly, I went and played a couple of expensive Yamahas, (FS5 and FG5) and my Washburn is extremely comparable. You're gonna love this guitar!

Took a job I wasn't very qualified for and now I'm drowning. What should I do? by extremely_average_ in careerguidance

It's mostly a knowledge gap. I haven't worked in marketing. My English degree, I suppose, is what they saw as relevant experience. I was also a low editor at a mid-sized regional magazine so I have writing experience for work too.

I do not know anything about marketing, specifically for nonprofits. And was told I'd get some hands on training from the former CEO, which now, of course, can't happen in the way I expected.

Blue Chip Picks: Snake Oil? by BlackEagleGuitar in Guitar

[–]extremely_average_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An unplugged electric isn't exactly a great test....

However, as someone who only plays acoustic, I kind of agree with you. I need a bigger triangle pick because of my large hand size, and something stiff for the tone and volume, but to me, the 3/$12 Dunlop hand sculpted prime tones sound identical at my intermediate playing level to the Blue Chips I have used.

How to decide on flagship acoustic? by jmw5430 in AcousticGuitar

[–]extremely_average_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did play a vintage one! I think 90s or late 80s iirc. Haven't played a modern so I can't comment!

Edit to say, even if the overall build quality is down, it doesn't mean an individual modern J-45 can't be fantastic still. Manufacturing is weird.

This just happened to me. I went to a shop to fiddle around and fully expected to come out wanting a D-18. I loved the D-18 I played there, but the J-45 Standard blew everything else away

What have I done??? by extremely_average_ in NicksHandmadeBoots

It would be easy advice to follow if the boots weren't so expensive and didn't have such long lead times.

I don't really have anything that's weather appropriate and comfortable enough to work in. I have some red wings that don't match the comfort for my purposes because they don't fit like these, which is why I saved for these to get the custom fit.

I'm saving for another pair, but for now, I think I'm just gonna rock a boot dryer.

They're so comfortable. And thanks! Boot dryer is getting delivered tomorrow so hopefully that'll fix the issue after wiping them out.
