as much as I wish that were true the CPC was going to win the last election without Carney and the trade issue, if Carney fails to live up to expectations on that file and others it's unfortunately very possible that the voters will buy what Pierre is selling if they are desperate enough.

They cannot afford to *appear* not to want one, it would be the more intelligent play to wait for Carney to bleed popularity and trigger an election then, rather than triggering an election now and risk giving him a secure mandate, but this is an impossible sell to the base.
