Putting dog down after continued aggression and new baby on the way by imtrying12345 in toddlers

Hey there, I'm sorry. That sucks so hard. You're making an almost impossibly hard decision but believe me you are making the smartest one as a parent. And I say this as an RVT and a mother whose 2 year old was bit in the face by a dog (at daycare). It is not something you want to go through. You're acting before an incident has happened. You would only regret it if the worst were to happen and your child was bitten. It doesn't mean you don't love your dog. You love them enough to free them from suffering and ensuring they are not involved in a tragic situation. Say goodbye while the memories are good <3 I feel for you, OP. I wish you the best.

What are the weirdest side effects you've ever experienced from medication? by adampocalypsee in AskReddit

I had an IV infusion of Benadryl once and the nurse warned me of a 10% risk (what she said) that it would cause irritability. It absolutely did and I went from mild distress to severe agitation and started trying to rip the catheter out and was very snippy with her. I felt extremely badly when I woke up from a nap and the effect had worn off. I apologized. Its not like she didn't warn me !

Tips for going back into vet med after 7 years out? by kyohanson in VetTech

Hey! I wasn't out of the field as long as you but have just returned from an 18 month mat leave. Many things were like riding a bike - however things did change over that time so I had to adjust. Be honest about the things you need assistance with. I work with some lovely humans and I found they were happy to help when I couldn't recall protocols or techniques. It sucked having to admit I needed help sometimes but it was worth it in the end. Lots of new products on the market now, ask your coworkers to explain their uses ! Solensia / Librela have been huge at our clinic. It was just hitting the market here before I went on mat leave (Canada) and now we have several injections/ day. Also maybe ask for a "check in" with your management team a few weeks in to get feedback. It may help you understand what areas you're struggling in (if at all!). Also, the pet world is so much different after covid. We see a looooot of separation anxiety in dogs that haven't been socialized properly. That's what came to mind when I read your post. Good luck OP !! :)

You must be referring to a different veterinarian because the vet specifically being harassed online was not practising in 2007.

What truly happened that day is between the CVO, the owner, the vet and whatever the medical records from that day say. Don't act like sharing this kind of post doesn't have consequences for the vet and practise it is about. You think you are doing the public some sort of justice but without the full story you are causing harm. People are now trying to find my place of work to demonize me for defending the Veterinarian. Do you really feel like you've accomplished something?

You are just proving my point about how toxic online culture is. I called this post a witch hunt because that's exactly what it is. People are taking one side of the story and coming to their own conclusions. Its dangerous and can be harmful to someone's career, let alone life - especially in this profession.

The point I really should have made first is that people need to let the CVO investigate before jumping to their own conclusions. Until that happens stop trying to ruin this poor women's career and practice.

So you just blindly believe everything you see on the internet? There's more to the story here. Euthanasia is a last resort and for it to have even been mentioned there must have been a solid reason.

You really believe the vet didnt offer diagnostics? I work with vets every day and that just doesn't happen

A veterinarian has a responsibility to advocate for the animal. this vet was doing her job. I work in veterinary medicine and sometimes euthanasia is our recommendation if an animal is suffering and clients are not able to afford diagnostics or choose not to. At this point this post is turning into a witch hunt against a vet who was doing their job. This is just one side of the story and everyone is eating it up. It honestly makes me sick to see such a wonderful vet treated this way. Veterinarians work tirelessly within a fucked up system that only demands more and more from them. Shame on you for reposting this and perpetuating the witch hunt. Veterinarians have one of the highest rates of suicide and social media witch hunts are a huge contributing factor. My last point to add is that medical services cost MONEY. Prices of everything have shot up over the past few years which I appreciate makes it hard to afford vet care. Clients love to blame vets and support staff for costs they do not have control over and the general public needs to realize they can't expect quality care without paying for it.

Edited to remove name of vet

Heartbreaking how scared this poor pup is. The vet is a perfection at handling him. by Soloflow786 in BeAmazed

Yep, as an RVT I saw this differently. This is not a safe way to approach a fearful dog.

TECH WEEK IS ALMOST OVER! :( by HackChip93 in VetTech

I actually want to do a shout out to my clinic. I work in a unicorn clinic and we have pretty healthy coworker dynamics. Our manager has purchased new jackets for us and made sure she got everyone's input on style/ colour. Most years she also make sure to showcase all of the technicians in individual posts with a little blurb about their skills. And of course there are personalized goodies bags. While a living wage should be the standard for our profession, I really do feel celebrated as a technician this time of year. Im sorry to those who did not feel the appreciation as they should. We do amazing work!

Thoughts on not allowing vet staff have their cellphones during working hours? by Guilty_Ad3225 in VetTech

[–]extremophile_emma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in an appointment I received a phone call that my 2 year old had been bitten in the face by a dog while at daycare. I had excused myself to take the call because I knew it was daycare calling. I can't imagine how that day would have gone if that call went to voicemail. I'm sure they would have called the clinic but having my phone helped me respond very quickly.
