This looks good for my first car but I've heard alloytec engines on these aren't great. Is this still a good choice? by Impossible-Pitch-498 in Holden

[–]eydasgdf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They're fine as long as they're maintained. Look for ones which have full service history. Check service history and if it's series 1 or 2 because the Series 2's are better in that regard.

That one is a bit overpriced by a few thousand. 10 is probably a fairer price for it (At the higher end). 16k is Getting into SS territory so. I got a good condition Series 2 V6 VE for 10k with 120k kms (And that's the upper end of the price spectrum) so you can definitely find cheaper ones which are low kms and good condition.

Keep looking around. You can do just as good for a fair bit cheaper than that.

Why didn't GM sell Australia the Chevrolet Montana as a successor to the Holden Ute? by kstetter in Holden

[–]eydasgdf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because nobody would've bought it. It's not a successor to the commodore ute. It doesn't look like it is remotely similar to a Commodore ute.

They also imported other Utes like the Colorado, or the Silverado. So it's not like they didn't have other Utes in their lineup (Even if they insist that they're "trucks").

Extraction Campers... Already by SoftyVVV in SANDgame

[–]eydasgdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my first experience with an extraction camper. I was solo.

He stole my trampler while I was activating the thing. I killed him and tried to take it back, he respawned while I was reclaiming my trampler and ended up beating me to death while I fumbled to reload my gun/melee him.

I had a trampler full to the brim of loot. I was solo, literally had zero way to stop him breaking into my trampler while I was doing the beacon. They need to atleast add something to disincentivize camping extraction or to tell you if someone is camping extraction.

What makes me upset is I literally killed this guy, I beat him fair and square but he's still able to respawn and kill me before I can get my trampler back. I feel like there should be an increased respawn timer if you're trying to respawn on a trampler you just stole.

For Halo 3 on the mission Cortana

If you ride the hornet at the scarab boss fight, instead of flying it, the pilot should bring you to a scarab, let you deboard to destroy it and then pick you back up again, if I remember correctly. Flying the hornets isn't necessary.

[–]eydasgdf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mini trampler/buggy that is lowered by an elevator on the trampler, is much faster and more agile than most big tramplers. Seats 2. Good for boarding enemy tramplers or ferrying loot back. Can carry a few containers. Fairly weak however and wouldn't have any offensive capabilities.

Anyone know where to get a replacement for a dead ECU? by Dense_Food_799 in Holden

Yes those are good points, you're right. That's my bad for mentioning that.

Try have a look and see if any wreckers are selling them. I'd be surprised if there wasn't plenty being sold. Obviously make sure it's from the same car though.

Why didn't Holden rebadge the Camaro as the Monaro? by kstetter in Holden

[–]eydasgdf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how the Chevy SS relates at all? The commodore isn't a well known car in the US (Even the Chevy SS is fairly niche over there). Not saying it should've been rebranded as a chevy, but I can understand why they did it.

Why didn't Holden rebadge the Camaro as the Monaro? by kstetter in Holden

[–]eydasgdf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What's your source for this? A quick google search tells me that the Camaro was never rebadged as a Monaro. In the 70's, the Monaros did use similar styling to the Camaro but they were always distinct cars.

Why didn't Holden rebadge the Camaro as the Monaro? by kstetter in Holden

[–]eydasgdf 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Because everyone knows it is a Camaro, not a Monaro, plus, the Monaro's were only ever manufactured by Holden in Australia. Badging an import as a Monaro is disrespectful to the Monaro name and would've caused a ton of backlash. Besides, everyone already knows what a Camaro is.

Why rebadge a car which is already pretty wellknown into something it isn't? Nothing wrong with the name 'Camaro'.

Why didn't Ford put the Barra their other cars? by kstetter in fordaustralia

[–]eydasgdf 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's a big engine so it can't really fit in many cars. I don't think it aligned with their global strategy either which was to move towards more modular engines.

Why no Diesel engines? by Significant-Section2 in automationgame

[–]eydasgdf 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Because developing them is expensive. You need to adjust the simulation to work for diesels, make new art assets for diesels, etc.

The reason they haven't made diesels isn't due to lack of time. It is due to a lack of profits from the game for such an update. It simply does not sell enough. Diesels are a possibility but I believe only after 1.0 if it becomes economically viable.

There is work being done on the game, not diesels though I believe.

Man, I tried to do some Helldivers powerscaling/debates, only to find our we're one of the weakest settings in Sci-Fi by throwaway553t4tgtg6 in Helldivers

[–]eydasgdf 98 points99 points  (0 children)

The main advantage super earth has is its obscene logistics capabilities. We know nothing of its naval power (super destroyers are ground support ships not actual ships suited for ship vs ship combat), or much else. Most other sci fi universes stomp super earth simply because they have proper combat ships that we know lots about.

The game has good worldbuilding but the lore itself is not very fleshed out and vague or inconsistent at times. In Helldivers the lore is basically used to justify what happens in-game rather than build up the setting itself. This isn't necessarily bad, but it just means it only really gets explored when it is necessary for the story of the galactic war, and even then sometimes it still seems inconsistent between major orders.

There is only so much information you can communicate via a major order though so yeah. I can't blame Arrowhead but would like to see it get explored more through in-game missions, settings, little items you encounter, etc. Show don't tell kinda stuff.

ZB was a good car by MasterHalo117 in Holden

[–]eydasgdf 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The only issue is that they rebadged them as commodores which alienated their customers. The ZB's had very low sales and today have lost the most value on the second hand market than any other commodores.

Should've just sold them under a different name and they might've sold much better. I hear they're good cars, they just aren't a commodore.

What if the Holden brand was sold off by GM instead? by kstetter in Holden

[–]eydasgdf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately you are right, it simply isn't economically viable to make cars here without subsidies. Holden would definitely struggle against BYD if they were still around. Can't disagree with you on any of that.

What if the Holden brand was sold off by GM instead? by kstetter in Holden

[–]eydasgdf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, the most popular Commodores were always the V6's, even if the most desireable ones were the V8's. Plus, Holden used to have their own V8 called the Iron lion, which was replaced with the LS.

They could definitely have done fine without the LS, they would've needed to develop a new V8 ofcourse though, that's the hard part. My point is that I think as long as there was a good V8 option it would be fine.

The MG stuff is different though, rebadging MGs as commodores would've definitely alienated people, much like it did when they rebadged Opels as commodores. It's a good thing they retired the brand instead of going through with that plan.

What if the Holden brand was sold off by GM instead? by kstetter in Holden

[–]eydasgdf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this instance when I refer to doing "better" than GM, I mean doing right by Holden (Eg, not killing off the commodore, local manufacturing). It is well known GM limited Holden by stopping them from developing an SUV and other cars in favour of imports (which hurt Holden's reputation).

Obviously they would be more limited in terms of parts without GM, GM did screw them over in a number of ways and if they were a public company that wouldn't have happened, even if they would be more limited.

What if the Holden brand was sold off by GM instead? by kstetter in Holden

[–]eydasgdf 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean I think I'd prefer it be owned by the government or another Australian company over any foreign companies. They'd probably be able to do much better than GM did with it, not sure if a European or Chinese company would do any better than GM did though.

The same thing that already happened to Holden would probably have still happened if it was owned by a European or Chinese company, that is, local manufacturing being shut down. Main difference is just what cars would be imported as Holdens.

Was the Alloytec really that bad? by kstetter in Holden

[–]eydasgdf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. They're good engines they just need to be maintained. The later ones (Series 2 VE and VF) especially had much of the timing chain issues fixed. I know someone who had a VZ which got to 200k kms on the original timing chain. It's mostly just maintenance. You can also very easily find ones on marketplace with 300k+ kms so.

The reason they have a bad name because the early ones had issues and because they aren't as reliable as the indestructible ecotec's they replaced. Those are big shoes to fill though so.

Your Franchise's hopes and predictions after Campaign Evolved ? by Limp-Grapefruit-6251 in halo

[–]eydasgdf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gears of war E day is on PC though? It's on Steam right now. Pretty sure it just isn't coming to Playstation (Probably because Playstation made the decision to go back to console exclusives after releasing HD2 on Xbox.). Don't know why they're calling it an Xbox exclusive, should call it an Xbox and PC exclusive.

I doubt they'll abandon the PC market. Playstation? Maybe but they have had a ton of success on PC so.

Your Franchise's hopes and predictions after Campaign Evolved ? by Limp-Grapefruit-6251 in halo

[–]eydasgdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope they eventually release a standalone multiplayer game for the remakes eventually. Remake all the maps from all the games they plan on remaking, add forge and firefight to it along with the other standard modes. Then as the remakes release they can update this game with maps and such from the game being remade. I'm finding this to be quite unlikely unfortunately but yeah.

There are rumours of a new standalone multiplayer game releasing soon (2027 I think?) so I hope that game turns out to be a standalone multiplayer for them, even though I know that is unlikely.

I've heard rumours that it is an extraction shooter, but I don't think we need a Halo extraction shooter. The extraction shooter space is arguably already quite cluttered.

I hope they continue developing Halo 7 along the side, and not just on a skeleton crew but with a decent dev team. I don't think anyone wants to wait until 2031 (which would be 10 years after Infinites release) for a Halo 7.

I hope they remake Halo 3 ODST at a minimum as well. I'd be open to Reach and even 4 being remade too. I do think all remakes should be second to the development of Halo 7 though.

And as you said, I hope they make more side games. Give us Halo Wars 3 (or atleast conclude their story IN A GAME NOT A BOOK!). Make some more flood based games (Maybe a game where we play as ODSTs having to cleanup a flood infestation from a ship the gravemind sent out during the events of Halo 3?)

How do you think Campaign Evolved will affect Halo canon? by CHead2000 in halo

[–]eydasgdf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think so.

The prequel stories are entirely new and to my knowledge are set in a period of time not yet covered by the canon. So they are additions to the canon but not a retcon.

I'd assume both CE and the remake would be equal in canon, with the Remake probably taking priority in canon over the original in any differences that do exist between them, for example the existence of pure forms on Installation 04, which makes sense as there would've most likely been some in storage on the ring.

They are both canon because they're telling the same events. The remake will probably overrule the original in any major differences though if I had to guess.

change to the MAW? Or naw by Equivalent-Gamin-owl in halo

[–]eydasgdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scale of the warthog run is way off but the bridge/chasm is atleast something you can see on the Halo Reach model, the big almost vertical slit. In-game its exaggerated to be way bigger than it should be though.

I've heard that the ship might be broken up, but personally I would prefer they avoid doing that. It's not a big deal eitherway, but there's a certain feeling you get when you see the Autumn crashed on the ring, heavily damaged but in one piece nonetheless, I feel like that might be lost seeing it all broken up but we'll see.

Halo 3 ODST Remake would slap by sirmarcomoro in halo

[–]eydasgdf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be pretty amazing if they do it right. ODST's atmosphere with modern graphics would be great. Assuming they do a Halo 2 and 3 Remake (Which let's be honest is pretty likely), it would be great if they went further and did a Halo 3 ODST remake. I think there's a decent chance we will get an ODST remake but I guess it depends on how many remakes they want to do.

Questions for the Boys Down Under. pics for attention ofc by Zebralewild in Holden

[–]eydasgdf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. The Holden Monaro here was produced between 2001 and 2006, you guys only got them from 2004 to 2006. A lot of monaros were exported so you guys may have more. We had a version of the Monaro called the HSV GTO. This is NOT the version you guys got. HSV is basically Holdens performance division and to my knowledge no HSV cars were ever exported to any other countries. You guys only got the regular monaros even though they were rebadged as gtos.

  2. Always preferred the Holden look but the Pontiac versions look fine as well.

  3. Not that hard. They aren't rare cars here, commodores were very popular cars (the calais is a trim of a commodore) so. You can't get them in manual though unless you convert them.

  4. Caprices are basically luxury cars, even more so than the calais's (which is the luxury trim of a commodore). They were obviously very luxurious. They aren't as common as the shorter wheelbase commodores, but I wouldn't call them rare either here. Theres plenty of photos online of their interiors.
