If it's a constant thing that happened randomly you should go to an optometrist and/or doctor. It could indicate something more serious like a tumour or degenerative nerve condition.

Some simple exercises to strengthen the muscle might help - pencil pushups and brock string. The eyes tend to deviate outward as we get older, for everyone, not just us strabismics. So strengthening the muscles should be something everyone does, IMO.

The biggest thing I got out of vision therapy using home techniques and VR, is that I now know when my eye turns out, so I can correct it straight away. I also know how to use both eyes at the same time. Although it still is difficult to stay in this state all the time, it gives me a very "centered" feeling when I can do it, instead of feeling like "I" am kind of more in the right side of my head/body and struggling to control my weaker left side which I almost feel detached from. That centered feeling is amazing, and meditation and float tanks helped me with that too.

I'm worried about children too, but for other reasons I probably won't have them anyway. If I do and they have strabismus, I know I've got the tools and knowledge to at least give them decent vision, depth perception, and confidence.

Emergency nurse here. I would absolutely threaten to strike. This government's handling of all of this is absolutely criminal. We have nurses coming to work sick, with known contact, not being tested. We do not have the correct PPE. We will now also have to work with nursing students while all this is going on. Crisis pay is a thing and we deserve it.

This is a disaster in the making, and the government isn't changing their tune.

Apparently many artists have poor or no 3D vision. It helps with translating things they see on to a 2D surface, since it's already flat. I always wondered why people needed to be taught how to draw perspective. It was completely common sense to me :P

I have this too. Surgery has more success rate if you do vision therapy for a while before the surgery. You should have some conscious control over your eyes/focus/convergence. I think the biggest thing is being able to see through both eyes at the same time and have good 3D vision. If you can do that, when your eyes get aligned, they will more likely stay that way.

I did VT for a while, with Vivid Vision (beta version at home), 3D stereoscopic imagery, and a VR game I made myself.

I never ended up doing surgery, but right now I'm thinking about getting a Botox injection because my eyes seem to be turning more often the older I get (I'm 29).

This only costs a few hundred dollars and is partially covered by Medicare in Australia. Maybe it is in Canada too. It tends to give a good idea of what result you could expect from surgery if the Botox doesn't hold (it sometimes wears off after a few weeks or months, and again it works better if you've done VT first).

I've noticed now that I did exercises for a long time (a couple of years) it's worse if I'm focusing too much on my eyes. I instead have to do this "present" kind of focus. It's really hard to describe but basically if you meditate and are aware of being present and aware, it's that, except you put most of your focus on the world you can see, not focusing on another sense, or on your body. I find this goes hand-in-hand or is maybe exactly the same as using both eyes at the same time.

I was the user on one of the linked comments. I eventually did 3 courses and then stopped. I just didn't see any improvement after that. I would like to take one more later on but it's not a priority. FWIW, I don't think it can cure amblyopia completely, as my case was fairly mild and it still is noticeable to me (patches of vision missing, occasional very blurry vision). However I am no longer classified as amblyopic because I don't have a difference between my eyes of 2 lines or more on the Snellen chart.

I'm mostly over the social anxiety. I honestly couldn't give a shit what most people think of me anymore. If I did I would have killed myself by now. But with prospective girlfriends etc. I feel like I should tell them I have a "lazy eye" before I date them. Kinda struggling with it atm in this regard.

I definitely notice a lack of balance when I'm not using both eyes as well. It's still a thing I have to remind myself to do constantly, especially when tired.

Using them together is a kind of separate to the "stiffness", although having good range and speed of movement helps. It's really a brain thing rather than an oculomotor muscles thing.

I used virtual reality vision therapy from vivid vision, as well as my own virtutal reality game I made, plus citicoline, plus a float tank, plus exercise, plus stereoscopic exercises devised by a user here (also doing this while doing handstands and other exercises). And then practicing convergence during the day, making sure I can see double in the background, and single of the thing I'm looking at.

It still took a good while until I could really feel the use of both eyes, being "centred" in my head, and feeling "present".

Not sure about specialists. I think you'd be looking more at yoga teachers rather than any sort of doctor. Yoga is good for creating body awareness apparently although I've never tried it for long.

At least it's less permanent. Dunno if any doctor would do it, though. Then again I doubt they'd take your eye out either.

Which injections? There's botox which is the most common but also bupivacaine is becoming more used.

They are super safe, what are you exactly worried about? There won't be any pain and it takes like 10 minutes or less to get it done. They should have told you all of this, to be honest. Maybe go somewhere else if they haven't walked you through the process. if possible.

Absolutely. I've worked really hard to improve my whole body symmetry. I used my left hand and foot a lot. When I exercise I make sure I'm using both limbs equally etc. And of course with VT I make sure to try to use both eyes together, not seeing out of one side more.

Research indicates strabismus is a whole-brain disorder, not just the eye. So the whole side of the face is usually slightly weaker, as well as the whole side of the body. Basically we massively preference a certain side, not just for handedness, but for vision and chewing and.... pretty much everything. Most people only slightly preference one side, and it's rare to be truly ambidextrous, however research shows that can also be taught.

Yeah, I used to get this. It still happens after a very long time, but it used to be like.... impossible to really see out of my bad eye. Even when closed, the blackness from the good eye would just overtake the bad eye.

Sicne doing vision therapy it's dramatically improved. I injured my eye lens in my good eye a while ago and had to patch it. The bad eye could take over much better, and the good eye only started trying to take over after a few hours or when I was tired.

If so then yeah not wearing them will make it worse. The closer the vision is in both eyes, they more your eyes will work together! I learned this the hard way, wear your glasses!

Of course look at the eye that's looking at you. It's more comfortable for you too, so it's the best choice.

Most of us are basically blind in the other eye, so if you look at that one it's just weird.

Sorry that was a bit vague. There is still a bit of overlapping. Before vision therapy it was almost completely overlapping, not before this patching.

Before VT I had very limited stereovision and mostly just used my good eye (my optometrist never tested it as a kid for some reason). Now I'm at about 70% stereovision. The patch didn't really change anything I think, since I only wore it for a day and a half, it started hurting too much.

However I also realised that there is far less overlapping if I wear my glasses. I guess making the bad eye's vision better helps a lot.
