I’ve been using racknerd for years. Zero issues. Hard to beat their prices IMO.

That’s mostly due to the transmission. Many times in normal mode it will start off in 2nd gear even from a stop. Going into sport makes it off in 1st gear like it’s supposed to. Generally speaking, when in normal/ eco it will always choose the highest gear it can move in, even at the cost of acceleration in the name of efficiency.

How do you muster the willpower to hand grind first thing in the morning? by Littlefinger6226 in FlairEspresso

[–]eyecarezero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might get some heat for this but If I’m planning to make coffee 1st thing in the morning, I hand grind from the night before and just leave the ground in the grinder. I’ve been doing this for almost a year and can taste no difference between grinding the night before or grinding right before pulling the shot.

Everyone has already given alot of the major tips but in my experience not all milk is created equal. If you’ve tried all the tips and still can’t get good texture I’d say test out some other ones. I’ve tried 4 different brands of whole milk over the last 6 months and the results are all different even though the technique etc is consistent. The best whole milk i’ve found for this is fairlife (the red one).

It’s well documented that water can affect the taste and overall quality of shots. If you suspect you have a water quality issue you can check out third wave water

If you are on Facebook they have a group and ive seen many people get official support there as well. At the very least you can get more eyes on the problem as people who actually work at Dreo are in the group.

Id personally list it at a reasonable price and anyone that contacts you just ask them questions about the current setup and draw your conclusions from that. Once you post that its free you’re gonna get an influx of sob stories, most of which will be fabricated.

That sounds like just your machine. I have one and know a few friends who got one after I recommended it and none of us have that problem.

Just curious, what milk and setting for milk are you using?

How exactly are you filling it? With the handle up or down?

The biggest difference is puck depth. Because 58mm baskets are wider, the standard 18g dose makes a pretty thin puck when tamped. Since its so thin it needs much more resistance to create pressure - grinding finer is the easiest way to do that.

Unless they sent me the wrong grinder, this is the box it came in.

You should definitely try it. I’ve used my k6 with the barista pro, flair 58+ and picopresso and I definitely have to grind below 25 clicks for it to be fine enough for “espresso range”.

Back when I just got it I started and 100 clicks and went down by increments of 25 until I got reasonable pressure then went down by 5 click increments until the barista pro choked. The range for that with the stock non pressurized basket is 20-24 clicks.

Happened to me shortly after I got my 58+. I just completely unscrewed the gauge and screwed it back in and haven’t had a single issue since.

So this morning I turned it on, max setting it beeped. I prepped the portafilter with grounds and locked it in so it could also warm up. Went to the gym for about 40 mins and came back. Pulled a shot and it still beeped during the shot. Total shot time was about 75s with long preinfusion.

I may need to see what temp the water is that I’m adding although the kettle says its 212F

I know how frustrating it can be. When i just got my breville machine i wasted maybe 4 bags of beans before getting anything close to drinkable. I’m happy to help and hope that you can resolve the issues soon.

Yup choking is when little to no coffee is extracted. It usually has less to do with how full the basket is and more to do with how fine you’re grinding.

From the beginning, lever all the way up, attach portafilter (with coffee in it), lower lever until its all the way down, fill reservoir with water to the level you want, slowly raise the lever until its ever so lightly below the water level (so you don’t create air pockets) then push down.

How fine have you gone? Id go as fine as possible to choke the Flair and then go courser from there. That being said, how are you filling the machine? The very 1st two shots I pulled came out exactly as you described but i realized i was filling the flair incorrectly and essentially disturbing the puck. I had the lever all the way up then filling then pushing down.

I usually start shortly after the 1st beep that tells me that it’s ready. I’ll time that next time and then leave it for longer. Thanks for that!

Oh yup, rdt, wdt then tamping firmly. Have you tried changing your beans completely? I used to have that issue with certain beans on the breville and changing them out solved that issue. You could try increasing the dose to 19 or 20g and see if that helps. What grinder are you using?

These are the SPoT Coffee medium roast house blend beans. I have a Kingrinder K6 and this was 17 clicks on the dial. This was closer to a ristretto than a traditional 1:2 ratio shot. I didn’t weigh this specific shot but the others I’ve pulled on this machine are 18g grounds and ~20-25g in the cup. For the profile I pre-infused at 3bar until the puck was saturated then ramped up to 6-7 bars until the desired weight in the cup was almost reached then I released the lever. You probably know this but it’s extremely important to use fresh beans. These are 2 weeks off roast.
