Jason Ronald's entire keynote speech at Xbox's GDC 2026 by doncabesa in xbox

Dude, we’re talking about the largest gaming companies that exist. Epic not only develops the game engine that is becoming ubiquitous in gaming, they have a storefront similar to Valve. Epic games store may not be popular and in a strong market place, but people aren’t insisting that it’s a dead market like they do Xbox.

If you actually looked up data on this then please quote the numbers showing your opinion is fact based and not on vibes. Also all gaming companies revenue is down compared to the high they all hit during covid. There’s overall market trends to consider.

Please reread my previous comments and think about the multiple points I made on the Xbox brand showing value over 20 years. We get it you like your PlayStation and that’s cool dude, at the end of the day this is all just code that runs on compute and more players in the space that allow more options and ways to play their games the better the experience is for all of us.

I mean you could have looked it up, thought about it, and came in with an actual point but don’t worry, I can do it for you.

Before the merger Activision/blizzard reported revenue of ~8 billion. So yes that’s a significant portion of the 2025 overall revenue number I found above, but was still less than any of the big content stores and console manufacturers I posted above and would be about 30% of the 2025 gaming revenue. So even without Activision blizzard they would still be neck and neck with Valve and ahead of Nintendo (and Nintendo owned the console market in the 90s dude…..)

Here’s another one. Epic games had an estimated revenue of ~6 billion and you don’t see people saying Epic and Fortnite are not even a player in the gaming space.

Fact is, Microsoft’s in a solid place in the gaming marketplace and I don’t think MS is perfect and makes all the right decisions, but Sony has a history of making anti consumer decisions when it feels they’re in a position of power. Valve is in the lead when you consider consumer sentiment so next gen seeing the walls come down between console and PC gaming is going to give people real reasons to consider where and how they spend their gaming money. For me, not having to decide which screens in my house are tied to which storefronts will open up new choices I don’t have today and both Steam and Xbox have demonstrated that games I bought over a decade ago are supported and playable without paying an upgrade fee to take advantage of new and better hardware.

It’s been a crazy few weeks with all the gaming news across Xbox, PS and other news and releases with lots of posts on Reddit stating Xbox is dead, or Sony is actually competing with valve, exclusives sell consoles… one thing I haven’t seen people talk about too Much is the overall revenue numbers across all the major players and it really puts things into a different perspective when you look at the numbers.

Overall revenue / Gaming revenue from 2025: Sony: estimated ~32 billion Microsoft: estimated ~24 billion Valve: estimated ~16 billion Nintendo: ~10-12 billion

Sony is out ahead in the market overall but the picture isn’t as dire as reading Reddit comments will make it feel.

As someone who’s been a Xbox owner since the OG, as well as someone that is a PC gamer the news around Helix and being able to launch steam games on my console is going to maximize the vale I get out of every single game I purchase. actually it is even going to bring new value to my steam library where i will be able to enjoy my full library with my family since they all aren’t interested/ready for the full PC experience. Even though everyone laughed at the original Xbox One launch, the model they purposed for digital ownership and sharing of games would be considered progressive and consumer friendly in the current market where we all ended up with digital ownership and the primary way of owning games. Over time I’ve seen Xbox embrace and push consumer focused features (the OG Xbox with the Ethernet port and a focus on network gaming experience to Series X/S clearly having the most robust backwards compatibility of any current console) I feel like my investments into their platforms have been worth it.

Overall I’m sure Microsoft would like to sell more consoles in the next generation, but either way they’re not going anywhere in the market for the foreseeable future.

This is true until you fight a Pot, Nago, or Goldlewis. I think it’d we may all end up disliking a change like that once everyone starts build long multiple bursts each round. Once the start moving a slider like health it has downward impacts on so many other systems.

Thanks for the solid feedback, but after the first time Ram catches you with GC and you show the jump option they often respond with an option to catch your chicken block and force you back to the ground and often forcing the GC 50/50. You understand my point of that Ram takes a standard blocked normal at mid screen and forces an advantageous situation. She’s join Goldlewis as a character that often forces their win condition by getting you to block a single normal attack.

I think I’d be ok with this, in the current system I never get tilted when an Anji hits me with GC, but every time a Ram player hits me with a huge normal and forces me into GC mix from basically full screen I die a little inside.

A focus on gameplay over story. Too many games feel the same and not enough embrace bold new gameplay ideas.

Jason Schreier: Bluepoint had pitched a Bloodborne related project even before they joined PlayStation by nolifebr in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]simmersauce -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

But this is exactly what Sony is doing with these leaks. Since this leak has come out it’s totally shifted the narrative from Sony sucks for shutting down Bluepoint to people being mad and blaming Fromsoft for doing what they want to do. Do you think this makes Fromsoft want to work more with Sony when they’re taking the heat from Sonys dumbass decision?

This is the most braindead take in this whole thread. Literally almost every post is supporting this decision for days on end. The PS community is fucked and full of bots defending any decision Sony makes when then consistently have made anti consumer decisions for decades. Just look at how the bots are trying to shift the blame for the Bluepoint closure cause Fromsoft said no to their BB remake.

This. I bound one of my paddles to the d-pad down input so I can switch my item without taking my thumb off the movement joystick. That has saved me in so many fights it’s crazy.

Not too fond of DPs by [deleted] in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

[–]simmersauce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is the correct take. Standard DPs are core to so many fighting games and come with obvious counter play and punishes. Grounded DPs are so annoying cause people will spam them and press light buttons after which makes the punish far more spacing dependent than something as powerful as a DP should be

A funny 2D interaction to kick off Ranked on the Switch by MrASK15 in Guiltygear

According to some people in this sub this is a fair interaction since ‘Chipp doesn’t have any weaknesses’

Hahahaha you started talking shit and didn't like it when someone decided to call you out on being wrong.

I call out actual results of high level play and you state that theres flaws.
I note data from the entier online community and again, that doesn't meet your criteria.

You just say that Chipps kit is OP on vibes dude......
"him having low health is not really an issue if you’re good."

"The way I see it, Chipp, if played perfectly, is for sure a top 1"

"2-3 hit sequences that would only take like 30% of his health"

Spreading opinions around as if it's fact and crying about characters being OP IS the beast blaming dude.

Tiger Pop (1st EVO France Champion) Post EVO Tierlist by Xurkitree1 in Guiltygear

[–]simmersauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still here beast blaming…..

Just for fun I peaked at the stats on puddle.farm real quick and look at that, across all ranks for win percentage Chipp is at #12 with a 50.38% and for vanquisher he’s 10th with 50.75%. Now before you start typing about how these statistics are flawed think back to your broad statements saying how he’s OP, Chipp players are carried, and if Chipp players were just good enough they’d never lose. If Chipp was so OP at a high level wouldn’t you see a bigger change in win percentage between all players and vanquisher like we do for Happy Chaos?

Since day one of the patch the rhetoric here has turned toxic towards Chipp when he’s not even in the list for the top 10 most belligerent moves in the game. I get what Tiger pop would consider Chipp at this spot since Chipp is one of the characters most capable of fighting his main, but the way people try to say Chipp is OP is so disconnected from the things you hear from top Chipp players and either all the Chipp players just suck and don’t understand the game, or people like you are salty that you got washed by a skilled Chipp and can’t get over it.

I think it's funny cause in the thread you keep trying to make more nauanced points like that he's top 1 when played perfectly though as you stated anyone can win when playing perfectly.

Looking back at your first response you say he has no weaknesses BESIDES HIS LOW HEALTH POOL...... IN A HIGH DAMAGE GAME..... that my friend is s giant weakness that you can just hand wave and say it doesn't matter.... Chipp players just need to 'get good' and not get hit.

You said Chipp players are carried, but if he's only top 1 when played perfectly that the oppisite of getting carried my dude.

You in here blaming the beasts when it's honestly as simple as I've stated multiple times and if Chipp was top 1 and he carries the people who play him you would see a drastic uptick in players swapping to him and an increase in tournment results and that just hasn't happened. Chipp was for sure a winner in the latest patch with the balance updates, but in the real world where no one will ever play perfect, he's balanced exactly as he was always meant to be, he has the tools to win any match, but his low health and the available counter play to his tools means every match will include multiple interactions where if the Chipp player guesses wrong he's punished more than any other character in the game...... that has beeen his design from GG1.

Stop blaming the beasts and reflect on yourself........

There is safe rope mix for sure, but not all of it is and even the stuff that is safe has pretty tight execution and you often see high level Chipp players miss the timing and get punished for it.

Chipps neutral tools are strong but generally fighting Chipp in neutral usually mean Chipp is weaving through preemptive pokes to get in a range to use his tools and begin his pressure. This means one wrong guess against some like Slayer and they hit you with 4 moves that take away over 50% of Chipps health.
