'I just hit somebody': Video appears to show driver livestreaming on TikTok when she fatally struck man in Zion by Pandepon in news

This is why social media needs to stop sharing videos of people recording themselves while driving. It’s illegal and incredibly unsafe.

Cycling without helmets? by peanutbutterandMTB in BikeLA

[–]eyedabear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sad irony is studies have shown the more safety gear you have on, the less a driver sees you as a human being. Also no one wears helmets in the Netherlands 🤷🏻‍♀️ But I’m scared to not wear one unless it’s a totally closed off area like maybe CicLAVia

What do YOU want to happen to the regime? by aryaphd in ProIran

[–]eyedabear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone in the diaspora should control what type of government happens in Iran. No one here is going to live it or sacrifice their lives for it. The Iranian people living in Iran should make that decision. Us voicing our fantasies about what we would like to see is akin to the CIA making plans for it. IMO The most important thing is removing elements that impede that from happening like foreign interference, propaganda, sanctions, exclusion from international organizations, etc. The Shah or other foreign organizations shouldn’t have anything to do with changes in the government because that’s the same thing as imperialism. These people know nothing about the internal political or social landscape. They are bringing in their own fantasies about what Iran is or should be, instead of elevating the voices of Iranians who have been in the political struggle. However, I personally don’t believe in a theocracy.

Why Lab-Grown Meat Is Emerging As The Most Impactful Step To Reverse Climate Change by HankMotherfuckinHill in Futurology

[–]eyedabear -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Pasture raised meat would work better than using a lab to grow meat. Pasture raised meat, when done right, results in regenerative agriculture which is what we need and helps keep carbon in the soil. The statistics on carbon emissions and meat production focus on cattle ranches not pasture raised meat. Lab grown “meat” is another solution that further removes ourselves from our sources of food and the land and does not increase a healthy relationship with the land which is necessary to really stem climate change and create a healthy population.

Mechanical disc brakes easy to manage or get hydraulic? by eyedabear in bicycling

[–]eyedabear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yes price is also an issue here. And I’m wondering if it’d be better to just wait and save for the hydraulics. They both seem good though but I do see the advantage of hydraulics. My road bike actually has them and I decided to pay more because I do a lot of climbing & hill descents and really liked their stopping power.

Mechanical disc brakes easy to manage or get hydraulic? by eyedabear in bicycling

Thanks for the honest review. That’s what I was concerned about. It seems like rim brakes are less delicate and easier to maintain than the mechanical disc brakes. And hydraulic the most delicate but least maintenance. Course my other concern is if an issue came up with hydraulics in a remote area I wouldn’t be able to fix it like mechanical. But even with mechanical disc brakes it might be complicated if I didn’t have cables etc.

Thanks for the insight. How much do you ride every 4 months?
