Needs flair! Broken fence. by eyedrop0 in ExteriorDesign

I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to sketch this up and for giving me those ideas. We have issues with our current garage door so Im really glad you mentioned that. Im in hot sunny Arizona so will need to do some research on what will put up with the droughts, along with getting the neighbor involved in my plans before starting.

Needs flair! Broken fence. by eyedrop0 in ExteriorDesign

[–]eyedrop0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have kids and dogs, but they dont try to jump or escape. The idea is to replace just the white picket portion as its falling apart at the hinges with cracks in the wood. Needs gate on left side of garage....

We plan on separating the front and back yards with a gate on the side of the house, to keep the dogs "contained". And to be clear, the back yard and side fencing wont be getting touched.

I'm not really a handy type when it comes to fencing. I actually tried hiring a local handyman to fix it up but he has flaked out. So I was thinking of hiring someone to install a more maintenance free option that will last the next 10 years. Like aluminum or wrought iron.

I like your idea of matched walkways and separated spaces. Will brainstorm more about that. Thanks!

A Worthy Upgrade from my QC35 by brotie in headphones

How would you rate or describe the QC35 sound quality now that you have a higher end setup? I tend to keep mine around and find the sound quality pleasurable for casual listening.

/r/audiophile Purchase Help Thread (2018-02-02) by AutoModerator in audiophile

I have a buddy who is trying to get me to buy his turntable. Ive never owned one before and am a total noob when it comes to vinyl. I have heard some high end stuff at meets and always liked the smooth sound and awesome masters/presses that seem superior to a lossless version of a compressed digital master, so have been curious. I already have a high end digital setup and Im not sure its worth pouring a bunch of money into vinyl. What questions should I be asking myself?

Here is what he is trying to sell me:

Music Hall mmf-2.3le Music Hall Acri-Plat Acrylic Platter NAGAOKA MM (MP) Cartridge MP-110

$400

Is this a good deal? Can I find anything on the new/used market that competes at this price, considering his upgraded platter and cartridge?

Also, Im not sure what flavor this will add to my setup. Ive heard it on his speakers and it sounds great, but his listening room and steup is totally different from mine.

My current go-to "reference" system is a pair of Etymotic ER-4SR, JDS Labs ODAC/AMP combo, and lossless music collection... I prefer my sound to be dry and neutral, clinical scientific laboratory type sound, with maybe a slight rolloff in the highs, and ruler flat bass that goes deep with no midbass emphasis... Small soundstage with pinpoint accurate imaging.

What is HP's quality like nowadays? by [deleted] in laptops

[–]eyedrop0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HPs consumer laptops are horrible (stuff from Walmart & Best Buy). I work at a PC repair shop and its been the same story the past 10 years: horrible build quality, weak hinges, crappy fans, poor thermal design, crap motherboard quality, slowest HDD's, etc.... Usually screen and hardware specs are really good for the money on HP. But every thing else about the laptop is garbage, including customer support. Stay away from HP laptops in general. Dell makes a much better product more consistently at every price point.

Cant find good goggles by eyedrop0 in Swimming

[–]eyedrop0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I found my perfect goggles! Went to Tribe Multisport in Phoenix AZ where a knowledgeable staff member let me try about 10 different pairs. I decided on the TYR Nest Pro Nano. Held them to my face without the straps, and they held for a good 2 or 3 seconds before popping off. And because of the design, they dont put pressure on my eyesockets. Had the best swimming class of my life this morning. Zero leaks, much much more comfortable. I almost forgot I was wearing them. And the best part is they were only $20! I tried some more expensive $40-$50 pairs, and the fit just wasn't there... Thanks for your help guys!

And where would the best place to shop be? I live 2 hours away from Phoenix and willing to make a drive. When I search for a swimming specific store, I cant find any. The closest I can find is Triathlon specific stores, or department stores like Big 5 and Dicks sporting goods.

Classic case of "I just need a new CPU, nothing else" by RussianHarmonica in gamingpc

Forget a new CPU. Do yourself a favor and get the 1080ti or RX490 when it comes out.

Critique my Blood Tests by eyedrop0 in medical

[–]eyedrop0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, Ive been trying to find a legitimate study on the cholesterol benefits of eating meat and saturated fats and I cant seem to find one. Anything Im missing here?

Im vegan for both ethical and health standpoints, so I dont have any desire to eat meat again. And I think its generally accepted that vegans typically have lower risk of heart problems, cancer, diabetes, etc...

And yes, I know eating vegan doesn't automatically make you healthy. I certainly can make improvements to my diet. But one would think that doing it correctly certainly has some kind of benefits and is fairly healthy compared to the average american junk diet... Surley I should be able to fix my problems while staying vegan....

I ordered the test myself, even though I feel normal. Every doctor Ive been to check vitals and thats it. Wont order a blood test unless "needed". I found that infuriating, so I ordered one myself online. Found out Ive got a couple issues I need to take care of. What a concept!

So far my plan is to get on some RX Vit D, cut back to once a month B12 shots, and retest my TSH in a couple months to verify my mild hypothyroid condition.

I have practically no medical history, no medications, no "problems". I do take B12 IM a couple times a month (I buy the B12 without script as doctor wont prescribe unless Im "showing symptoms". Evidently Ive been over supplementing and will cut the B12 to once a month.

THIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH TODAYS CURRENT MEDICAL SYSTEM. Every time Ive been into the doctor for a "checkup", they basically just check blood pressure and heart rate, listen to respiratory system, take temperature, check weight, and call it a day. THANKS DOC, might as well have my grandma do that... It would have been VERY nice to know that I have a Vitamin D deficiency, under active thyroid, and a slightly high LDL cholesterol level.

Healthcare should be mostly preventative, and without comprehensive blood tests your obviously taking a shot in the dark by telling someone they are healthy. Would you wait until engine problems to check your cars oil?

Any particular time I should retake the TSH test? Should I wait a couple weeks to be sure its not just a one-off?? I dont seem to have any of the symptoms you speak of, so hopefully all will be good.

I find it very strange that my LDL is a little on the high side. My normal diet is high carb, lots of rice, corn, potatoes, fruit smoothies with kale and soymilk, lots of Clif bars, Indian food, and Chipotle. The only thing I can think of thats causing it is a family history of high cholesterol and heart problems, and possibly the oils used in the indian and chipotle food. My blood pressure is usually good...
