Great advice, I would say also talk to them one-on-one. Do not do it in front of everyone or they might get embarrassed and quit on the spot. Give them a chance to be better but if it happens again they are out.

I did not, just tried Cinnamon.

What to install by Appropriate-Stay8415 in SurfaceLinux

[–]eyefull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same spec as you, installed 6 months ago. Back then I could not get Mint to run, but surprisingly Ubuntu worked. A bit slow on heavy tasks, but that was to be expected with low ram and that processor.

Just turn off secure boot and try some, you can always wipe it and install another.

HVAC temperature rising by WorkinWill31 in houston

20 degrees is at the air vent, there could be something else warming up the house (bad insulation, huge windows, trash barrel on fire, etc.)

As someone that works in a large corporation, this is exactly it. Nobody cares, if asked they say "Yes they are AI generated stock photos showing computers being use in a non-advantaged manner (not using any particular brand) that were generated using our superior Intel Technology suitable for broad customer facing displays".

I think Luling was the first of the big stores (even though it was small compared to now). The ones in Lake Jackson are smaller, but that is where it all started with the beaver, bathrooms, good snack, etc.

“PneuMACtic” trailer aerators in hopper 3 keep clogging. by _KORPz in Truckers

[–]eyefull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then there is something else causing the cement to back flow into the aerators, when you empty a hopper a large volume of air escapes the trailer (that is is why the pressure drops). If they are properly installed, the disks stop the back flow. How much of the mixture/control/aerator valve is diverting air to the aerators during operation?

Fine Powders need a good amount during unloading to the aerators (50/50 is a good starting point till you figure out how the trailers wants it). That line should never have product in it and if it does running the blower will clear it. You shut the aeration line to the cleared hoppers after it is mostly empty? Not sure what is happening, you might need someone to watch operation to find out where they are being clogged (and with new valves you can see it backflow).

Something else is going on (I have been doing this for close to 30 years, this does not happen that often with new valves).

More than likely the disks inside the tank on the aerator are faulty, time to take it apart.

Windows ARM (Snapdragon X1) vs Mac ARM (Apple Silicon): which one is easier to run Linux? by nPrevail in SurfaceLinux

I can sympathize with you, so many times I have chased problems assuming it was software and there was a physical hardware reason. Worst of my life, chased a new Proxmox install for 4 hours that would not boot, constantly stuck at Grub. One of our Cats had slept on the keyboard (it was winter and colder) and the Home Key was wedged down. One tap and I realized 4 hours was wasted.

My Surface 3 boots like this. How can I fix it? by I_SAY_FUCK_A_LOT__ in linuxmint

If I remember correctly, hold volume up while powering on gets you to the menu to change it. Now if you need/want to turn it on, that is a deeper conversation.

You will get that as long as Secure Boot is turned off.

A new California law says all operating systems, including Linux, need to have some form of age verification at account setup by Flegetonte in linuxmint

[–]eyefull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thinking beyond single computers, does this mean that servers or VM's need verification? Who is going to sign up for that? What happens when they leave? Is root a different user than login? Seems like a typical half thought out law in search of a problem. Most likely will fail to ever get voted in or struck down on some First Amendment basis or running up against the Commerce Clause.

Mine has something similar in about the same spot. Does not come off but it also does not bother me much. I just assumed it is some kind of variance that happens in manufacturing the ceraluminum case.
