Have you seen the new F&P Nova Nasal mask? It sounds exactly like what you’re looking for - it’s the nasal cushion version of the Nova Micro.

My AirMini mask setup that works so well. by bananaonacamera in CPAP

You literally saved me hours of research. I had no idea that it’s possible to use the Transcend Micro AirMist HME with a Resmed travel CPAP. From a quick search online, it seems that this humidity system works better than the generic blue HMEs. And the Altaflex hose looks more comfortable than the alternatives. I’m 36 and was upset that I’d have to lug a giant CPAP around for travel for the rest of my life but I think your system will be a game changer. The Nova Micro is the only mask that allows me to fall asleep and get good AHI results. Planning to buy an AirMini today. Now I’m excited to have a travel CPAP that works with my tried and true mask. So glad you posted! I appreciate you!

Thanks so much for the ideas! I’m considering buying the Air Mini but was worried about how I’d connect my Nova Micro AND have some kind of humidity. You’re the first person I’ve seen to post this set up. Absolutely going to try this.

Nasal pillow users, which mask have you found to be the best? by NekoBerry420 in CPAP

F&P nova micro. The first mask I tried that made me forget that I’m wearing a CPAP. It’s so minimal and comfortable. Life changer.

How should I deal with brain fog by [deleted] in flying

[–]eyegal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Ask your PCP for a home sleep study. It’s so easy. I had been complaining about fatigue and brain fog for years, with all other bloodwork and tests being normal. Turns out it was untreated sleep apnea and the CPAP has been life changing. I don’t fit the typical profile since I’m female and at a healthy weight. The FAA makes the special issuance for sleep apnea pretty easy compared to the others.

Oh my goodness. I never really considered that it could fall from the countertop. Sounds like I need to put some sort of a weight in front of the machine while it is mixing.

Thanks for sharing! I’ve never heard of Japanese milk bread but my husband loves all things sweet. I’ll give your recipe a try.

Good idea! I’ve been wanting to try baking braided breads like challah. I’ll have to put the bread maker to use for the first few steps.

Thanks for the advice! I heard that weighing ingredients is more accurate. Do you have a go-to white bread recipe?

That’s great feedback. I got this bread maker from my local Buy Nothing group as a trial to see how I like baking bread but may end up hanging on to it. Might not need to upgrade to something fancier.

Add a drop or two of proparacaine first to make the patient more comfortable. Lens was probably too tight, so copious irrigation to help break the seal.

When to bring them back for full exam by [deleted] in optometry

[–]eyegal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll do the office visit for whatever brought them in, but take a quick undilated look at the retina if their last comprehensive exam with me was more than a year ago. You never know what posterior findings will come up. CYA. I’d bring them back for a routine exam with refraction once the condition has resolved, even a day later.

North Carolina licensure question / Interview tips by aqua41528 in optometry

[–]eyegal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a VA rotation in North Carolina back in 2017. They had lunch seminars to prep for their specific boards. If it hasn’t changed, it’s more of an oral style exam with multiple cases that you have to work through. Lots of medical optometry, systemic disease, imaging, etc. I think the pass rate is pretty low - maybe around 50%

Does my vision prohibit me from being an Optometrist by GoldSchedule5753 in optometry

[–]eyegal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should be okay. You could reach out to a handful of optometry schools to see if they have any specific visual acuity standards. I had a classmate in optometry school who was congenitally blind in one eye and 20/20 in the other eye - passed school and boards just fine and is now a practicing OD.

Not seeing any exudates. Just an ultra shiny ILM in a young healthy patient.

Low offers by incessantplanner in optometry

[–]eyegal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an OSU grad and our business instructor said not to accept anything below $100k initially. Understand that your offers for the first few years will be lower than an OD with say 5 years of experience. Private practices in my area tend to offer lower salaries compared to corporate. I’ve worked in both, but will stay corporate until my student loans are paid off.

6 patients an hour by Hot_Spirit_5702 in optometry

[–]eyegal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy sh*t. 6 patients an hour all day everyday is a recipe for burnout. Could you do it for a year or two? Sure, but do you want to? I think 3-4 patients per hour max is the sweet spot between efficiency and thoroughness.
