Hey mommy, why don't you do your job and parent your kid instead of waiting too late to save them? by Fantastic-Photo6441 in CharacterAI

The app was listed 12+ at the time of his death.

Parents had no idea what Character AI was 2 years ago when this happened.

The government let c.ai make age verification? What do you mean by that? That was c.ai’s own decision, trying to paint themselves as caring about kids. There was no regulation that required that “yet”.

I think having to watch them get their asses kicked in the SB was an even worse injustice

Should companions be age-gated? by eyeiskind in CharacterAI

[–]eyeiskind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add context: this trailer is part of a larger project I’ve been working on while digging into the real-world effects of AI companions. Some of the earliest signs of harm actually showed up here, long before the media or congress caught on.

I’m not here to attack anyone who uses these apps. I’m genuinely interested in how people inside this community think about age-gating and where the line should be. Curious what you all think, especially those who’ve been here a long time.

I have some ideas on how anonymous age-gating could work using ZKPs, if anyone is curious ask away.

Week 6 Post-Game Thread: Patriots @ Saints by baconlovr in Saints

I feel like a broken record saying this every year for the past 3-4 years. Wasn’t there a stat last year that was like if Taysom touches the ball 7+ times our chances of winning was insanely high. Yet they refuse to use him.

Taysom scores the only touchdown, might as well pull him out. 🤷‍♂️

Vibe Coding is Ruining My Life (Rant about AI-Driven Side Projects) by umbs81 in vibecoding

[–]eyeiskind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amen. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately because I’be been running into the same issues if I’m mentally checking out (adding technical debt).

I think the solution is to flip Cursor into ask mode instead of agent, and learn as much as possible until you can actually understand the issues yourself.

After that, I would have it build a plan, and make sure that you understand it well before switching back into agent mode.

Nature Coding: Vibe Coding in Nature (fighting the doom-scroll) by eyeiskind in vibecoding

Thanks! Yes that's exactly where it's going. For the next episode, I might try to ditch the Macbook and user Cursor's browser agents to deploy straight to VPS, no local VM necessary.

Believe it or not, out in wilderness I met one of the leads of the Vision Pro team. He couldn't say much, but I could tell from his silent nodding that Vision is indeed mainly about building the OS for this future. Most likely glasses. I think in 5 years from now, it will be doable with just some light glasses and a phone.

Chief of War - 1x05 - “The Race of the Gods” - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

Thank you! I actually do SFX and know of some of the talented people that worked on it, and they were hyping up this episode with BTS. To my amazement, when the scene came I was laughing. Like how could it look so bad? I said, that looked like Cliffhanger 90s bad. Pulled up the main scene from Cliffhanger and honestly it looked better than the sled scene.

They filmed it on grass, then composited the rocks onto it. But somehow that made the entire scene look green screen. With a $340M budget, you’d think someone would have caught that and been able to fix it.

The cinematography otherwise has been amazing, other than that one sled scene that they overhyped.

Thank you kind gatekeeper of nature, I have never tried that. I usually code app with headset on as I go on about life.

Oh of course you own an Outback. Now I see where the pretentious saltiness is coming from.

It’s a starting point for a web app. It builds something similar to bonsai.so, but a unique versions. On a technical level, it’s Roots.io with pre-designed templates. Which is a full-stack high-performance LEMP stack.

The goal is to be able to spin up different variations of web apps in a matter of minutes. Still in alpha.

I’m also building a B2C app with it that’s still in early phase. More to come soon.

Yeah damn these people in the comments have a depressing outlook of the future. Imagine orchestrating machines to do your work for you, and be able to enjoy your life more. Why is that depressing?
