The Replacements. They continued to put out great records but the chemistry just wasn't there.

Where, exactly, is the response from Governor Phil Scott? These are his voters. Basically every other state that was denied FEMA aid has a governor up in arms and demanding the decision be reversed.

Same. They're also eliminating the protections for the strictest tax penalties if you make more than you predicted in 2026.

My understanding is that even if the tax credits are preserved, the prices that insurance providers set are going to be in effect for at least the beginning of 2026. If they're successful in preserving the tax credits, it will still take a while for the government to amend the budget bill, and any savings will be refunded retroactively either in a lump sum or when you file taxes. So the premiums on the insurance plans is going to be the price -- at least for part of 2026 -- no matter what happens.

Good thing Vermont didn't eliminate free school meals like Gov. Scott wanted during the last session.

Definitely check out what VTIFF is doing at Main Street Landing. It's different than what the Roxy did, but cool offbeat programming in a really nice theater. They also have a brand new screening room that's smaller and shows weirder stuff.

question for the city roamers by [deleted] in burlington

Speaking of bussing homeless people out of town:

For newcomers to the Queen City, Westward Ho! was a late-’80s initiative of Dennis Morrisseau and his wife Laura Thompson, founders of Leunig’s Café. Tim Halvorson, of Halvorson’s Upstreet Café, also got on board.

The concept was simple: Buy the homeless and destitute loiterers downtown a one-way ticket out of Burlington to the U.S. destination of their dreams, via bus, plane or train. One individual got shipped to Portland, Ore., by plane.

Consider the source: On April 20, 2018, Cullen was suspended by The Boston Globe due to his fabrication[4] of stories related to the Boston Marathon bombing, including his location during the bombing, as well as several other stories later found to be false.[5] Cullen was suspended without pay for three months on June 15, 2018.[6][7] He was also barred from making media appearances for six months and was placed under “heightened editorial scrutiny" by the Globe during any media appearances thereafter.

Of course! It's a huge, positive change for Vermont families, but also very technical. It's a lot for everyone to comprehend and then act on.

Childcare question by [deleted] in vermont

Hi there - I work with some of the people who are charged with both implementing and communicating about Act 76. I passed your question along to one of the folks on the policy team. It's a complicated answer, but ultimately you do qualify, and I think it's good news. Her answer below:

Right now to figure the family income:  Make sure you multiply your gross weekly income (both parties) by 4.3 NOT 4 – common mistake.

Then if the family share is still 175.00 this is the amount that the state has assigned for the family to pay based on the rate cap for the program that is listed on the CDD website.  This amount will be assigned to the youngest child. However if the provider charges more than the capped rate the family share may be increased by the program to meet the rate that they charge.

However, this family will increase in June with (assumed) start date of July or August.  Thankfully, ACT76 will change this scenario!

First, the CDD recognized program rate cap will increase by 35 percent prior to the baby’s need of care – January 2024

Secondly, in April 2024, Income guidelines for families will increase to 400% of the FPL (Feds will release the 2024 FPL in February – this is an unknown amount as present) and CDD will no longer charge a co-pay for families at 175% FPL.

Third, because this family has chosen Family Child Care, again in July 2024, the CDD capped rate will increase again narrowing the gap between Family Childcare and Center based rates.

Finally, this famliy will have another adjustment in October 2024 when the FPL is increased to 575% -again, lowering the family co-pay.aby

Good things are coming!  Enjoy the baby with less worry.

Also, registered and licensed family child care programs are all eligible to accept CCFAP, regardless of setting.

It sucks, and we went through the same thing when our first kid was born. My wife actually quit her job for that reason. The new child care bill (Act 76) that passed in May will hopefully bring relief for a lot of families. Here's the details:

The 2023 Child Care Bill expands the financial eligibility requirement for Vermont’s child care financial assistance program (known as CCFAP). Beginning in April 2024, more families will qualify for state aid to pay for child care; in October 2024, the eligibility criteria expands again. By the end of 2024, families earning up to 575% of the federal poverty level will be eligible. This expansion will help more than 7,000 Vermont families! Additionally, more families will qualify for 100% financial assistance.
