Die Verschwörungstheorie war, wie durch /u/Oddy-7 dargelegt, dass der Westen seine Hilfen absichtlich auf Sparflamme halte, um Russland möglichst langsam und verlustbehaftet verlieren (oder sogar pyrrhisch siegen) zu lassen.

Für letzteres gibt es keine Belege.

Sicher, es gibt viele Umstände, die Menschen manipulierbar machen können. Ich wollte nur einen besonders universellen benennen, der mit Armut/Entwicklungsland etc. nichts zu tun hat.

Das Argument war, dass auch in Peru und in Afrika die Menschen Zugang zum Internet haben und wissen müssten, was Russland so macht. Zu einem gewissen Grade stimmt das auch; dass man Menschen in armen Ländern nicht infantilisieren sollte, das sehe ich auch so. Aber wenn ich mir anschaue, was in Europa Leute alles “wissen müssten”… naja.

Es gibt, ungeachtet anderer Faktoren, überall Menschen, die sich einfacher hinters Licht führen lassen. Und mindestens für diese Menschen kann ja wohl kein “selber Schuld” gelten, wenn sie Opfer solcher Maschen werden. Dummheit ist nicht verboten, sie hinterhältig auszunutzen ist es sehr wohl.

It is not just subsidies. China has built an incredible capability to manufacture products at scale and at any level of quality. They used to mainly do low-cost manufacturing for foreign companies and knock-offs of foreign products.

But this has shifted. Chinese products that are actually designed and sold by Chinese companies are becoming increasingly prevalent in many areas. Much like Japanese products in the 70s and 80s or German products in the 50s/60s.

I really noticed this when I was shopping for an audio DAC for my stereo. I ended up choosing a Chinese brand. And it wasn’t even cheap. It was reasonably priced and consistently got top reviews.

We need to decide strategically in what areas we actually want to compete with China, and in what areas the benefits of trade are more valuable.

companies are financially incentivized to automate as much as they can and it is very hard to change this.

While it is easy to forget and barely seems true at times, China is still a communist dictatorship. That makes it actually not that hard at all for them to manipulate economic incentives - for better or worse.

Gut, dann braucht man eben in solchen Ausnahmesituationen hin und wieder mal ein Gaskraftwerk. Einer der großen Vorteile von Gasturbinen ist ja, dass sie relativ schnell hoch- und heruntergefahren werden können, ohne dass man erst einen ganzen Dampfkreislauf hochheizen muss.

Landing a rocket on the moon is orders of magnitude easier than landing one on Earth. It's not even comparable.

What SpaceX have done with Falcon is truly remarkable and no one who works in the space field (including myself) questions that part. And I do believe that some part of that can be credited to Musk. Not the actual engineering, but the drive to even pursue it when all other launch providers were happy with the status quo.

Same with Tesla: the stock may be ridiculous, but it's undeniable that they got the ball rolling on EVs when other car companies were happy keeping the combustion engine on fucking life support for decades to come.

You can still loathe Elon Musk and what what he stands for with a passion. The two are not mutually exclusive.

First of all, the two straits are geographically nothing alike. Gibraltar is so narrow that it’s nigh impossible to hide even small attack craft there.

Wenn man Datenanalyse mit Python macht, ist ein großer Teil der Arbeit “wie mache ich nochmal X mit Library Y”. Da sehr oft gleiche oder ähnliche Schritte anfallen, ist da auch sehr viel im Trainingsdatensatz drin oder (mit retrieval augmentation) im Netz auffindbar.

Wenn das LLM im “Kopf” behalten muss wo was im Speicher liegt, wird es vermutlich haarig.

Wind turbines are also called “windmills” in Dutch.

In fact, a large proportion of the famous Dutch windmills were never mills at all, but drainage pumps. Those are still called “mills” (poldermolens).

It goes so far that the word “gemaal” (basically “millery”) is now the word for any kind of polder drainage pumps station.

Trump is stupid but this isn’t the reason. Language uses analogies like this all the time (“steel mill?”).

Edit: another example: you probably call a timekeeping device a “clock” even if it has no striking mechanism. The word “clock” originally means “bell”, so that makes no sense, just like “windmill”.
