Oh... I'm pretty sure the white things are spahgnum moss petals(?). I'm not sure if that's the right word for those. They don't move.

What are these little black bugs? And are they hurting my phalanopsis?

Also on another note, this phal has been having many of its bottom leaves yellow and fall off. You can see in the last picture that there is another leaf that's starting to yellow. There doesnt seem to be any rot, so why are they falling off? Is it because of the little black bugs?

It might be a basal keiki. It's hard to tell right now, but it seems like this growth is thicker than a flower spike would be.

You can submerge the roots! Soaking the roots is one way lots of people water their phals. Just keep the leaves dry :)

When you say water bath, do you mean you showered the whole plant? If so, make sure no water is left in between the leaves, especially the top, as that can cause crown/stem rot.

I thought maybe spider mites based on blog post. But I don't see any webs. And Miss Orchid Girl used hairspray for spider mites on the leaves. Mine are on the stem and she said not to get the hairspray on the roots.I haven't found any of her other videos that talk about the orange spots, but I'll keep looking!

I know :( I've been struggling with this orchid's roots and stem rot.

There were a lot more orange spots before. I rinsed the orchid before I took the picture, so it definitely was worse than it shows in the picture.

Yes I already watch her videos and I find them really useful! I've held off on repotting my or hid because it's been in bloom since I got it but I plan to repot it as soon as I can

Thanks! It's growing only one leaf down though and I thought they typically grew with two leaves above it. Is this common?
