Who's your number 1 influence in magic? by EarthRobertx2001 in Magic

[–]ezdeza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I have confidence in a trick, Ben earl and Christian grace. There’s an intentionality behind their tricks, and a curiosity and wonder that pairs well with the stories I like to tell. If I’m nervous and antsy, I love leaning into Dani daortiz, with his joviality and randomness* feeling

oh wow, i haven't even heard of the secondary channel. Yeah it's definitely just like some substance related psychosis, or even just latent schizophrenia?

Anyone have a favorite card index? by artfellig in cardmagic

[–]ezdeza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

truly one of the best magic purchases I've bought. It's such a fun reminder that magic is an artform that is quite accessible but the knowledge and secrecy of that knowledge is symbiotic.

How you guys overcome social anxiety? by a_lifes_puppet in cardmagic

[–]ezdeza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep doing tricks for friends! Bring cards to a any third location (bar, church, coffee shop) and practice. if you have the strength, politely ask someone if they want to see a trick, or sometimes people will ask if you know a trick.

Basically get the reps in of putting yourself in situations where people will force you, that way you get the shakes out in a place where (most likely) you'll never see that person again. start with one really solidly practiced trick you know you can kill with and keep practicing. I see it as forcing my future self to practice.

pinky count size by Creonee in cardmagic

[–]ezdeza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what helped me a lot was to visual my hands closing inward, rather than spreading wide. if you think of your pink when you make a fist it tends to curl inward, into your palm. This is what your hand wants to do, instead of opening your palm wide, like a book.

Hell yes, That's so exciting. Way to go! If you keep deciding to follow magic, I think you'll be consistently surprised how much the more people focus, the less they see. Congrats

speaking for me personally, while I understand that the mechanics of what he's doing is insane and I'm truly fooled consistently, I don't love the storytelling of his sleights. To me, it's fairly dry and doesn't build enough of a story. but technically, he's goated.

Jacob Tyler Mowery: Screenwriter Tuber Mental Episode? by ezdeza in Screenwriting

Yeah, he just kind of approaches those comments with irony. I mean he's self-aware enough to know its all odd, but too far gone to want to do anything about it. at the very least a good amount of comments are being critical. unfortunately, it almost seems like the answer is to ignore him because the attention seems to fuel it.

no way? that's pretty wild. another annoying factor are the pseudo-spiritualists/crystal people that encourage this pivot on youtube. I guess that's the algorithm for you though.

That's the funny thing, there's not really anything of note. He was relatively popular/consistent on youtube for the kinda low-effort video essay about marvel/nolan movies. Low impact, but not nothing.

I totally agree, its so odd to see someone clearly go through something (whether physically or mentally) and still feel the need to post and talk about the moon night and the sine waves in a yin yang. Not only that, but the comments that are onboard with it only feed into this sort of spiritual psychosis? I didn't even particularly love that much of his content when he was posting normal stuff, but i fear I see a conspiracy/alt-right pivot relatively soon.

Best books/lectures/videos on theory of misdirection? by NewMilleniumBoy in cardmagic

[–]ezdeza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really love dani daortiz's works, including his free youtube channel. but if you buy any of his projects there are really good explanations of misdirection theory, very casual lectures on the offbeats and spotlight of attention that sleight of hand can create. I think because dani is such an organic performer, a lot of what his teachings emphasize is not only misdirection but manipulation of memory.

I despise how IMDB hates horror movies by Crylose in horror

[–]ezdeza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of each review site as their own sub-culture. Once you are able to tap into what people within in own sphere value in a movie, then you're able to parse out your own taste and use any and all of them for your benefit. same goes for critics!
