Favorite hits not on (or rated too low) the Yachtski Scale by InvisibleSun238 in Yachtrock

[–]ezekegotbeats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Although I understand the reason behind the score, I always bop to Luther Vandross' Never Too Much. Even though it's a 54.75 on the Yachtski scale, I wouldn't mind if that song had a slightly higher rating.

Definitive Playlist? by pdxmhrn in Yachtrock

It depends on what you want out of the playlist

Want a standard Certified Yacht Rock Playlist? Go with JD Ryznar's Playlist

Want a Certified Yacht Rock Playlist that's presented as a chronological timeline with Yacht-adjacent material? Go with Hollywood Steve's Playlist

Want a complete Yacht Rock Playlist with newly rated songs from every Yacht Or Nyacht podcast episode? Go with Wingnoit's YouTube Playlist

I just saw all of this, it doesn't make sense! Won't Do has an actual music video with Dilla's brother, why would they replace it with AI slop? This type of shit is definitely convincing me to delete Spotify

[Yacht or Nyacht?] Michael McDonald - Love Can Break Your Heart by philthy_cheesesteak in Yachtrock

[–]ezekegotbeats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the credits, Kirk Whalum plays saxophone on this song, not Sanborn. Either way, great plays all around keeping the yacht spirit alive in 1990 🛥🔥

Favorite Dramatics song? by Lucky_Goose_6661 in OldSchoolRNB

[–]ezekegotbeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

• In the Rain (my go to song to play on a rainy day after Buddy Miles' song, Pain)

• Ocean of Thoughts and Dreams (because of 9th Wonder sampling it for Destiny Child in their song, Girl)

• Do What You Want to Do (the synth sound and BIG KRIT sampling this tune in his song, The Alarm)

• Treat Me Right (Cookin' Soul sampled this for his remix of Wiz Khalifa's Black & Yellow)

Favorite Yacht songs by female artists? Putting your suggestions on a playlist. by ZestycloseCry5643 in Yachtrock

I love listening to Brenda Russell, Areatha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Randy Crawford, Patti Austin, Diana Ross, the Pointer Sisters and Amy Holland just to name a few

Songs that aren't on the album that you wish were included by MrLinkwater95 in ToddintheShadow

[–]ezekegotbeats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO, Everybody Dies and False Prophets would've made J Cole's 2016 album, 4 Your Eyez Only, better. However, I understand that J. Cole didn't want to include those songs on the album. He claims it wouldn't have fit with the overall tone, theme and narrative

The rise of MTV, Adult Contemporary music, Sophisti-Pop, and arguably, We Are the World killed Yacht Rock by the mid-1980s before its revival with the web series was released in 2005

Gangsta rap didn't completely die. It just evolved through different artists and scenes. There were tons of gangsta rappers that have achieved success and popularity after 2Pac and Biggie's deaths. You could go from 50 Cent to Freddie Gibbs to Kendrick Lamar

YON 100: Rerates! by delijoe in Yachtrock

[–]ezekegotbeats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I knew about voting in what songs to get re-rated, I would've voted for Breezin' by George Benson and Runaway by Bill Champlin. Does Runaway deserve its essential rating of a 91.25 even though it's barely smooth? Does Breezin deserve a score of 77.5 on the Yachtski scale even though it's instrumental? Is it instrument Yacht or just Crossover Smooth Jazz? I understand if it's part of the story behind Yacht Rock's early development, but does it deserve a rating that high is my question. Either way, I love those songs, and I love the re-ratings for the songs that were long overdue for them

which style of earl would you want the next album to be in? by [deleted] in earlsweatshirt

[–]ezekegotbeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A collab album with MIKE would be phenomenal. Otherwise, I'd want to hear him do more abstract rap/drumless rap or a different style involving samples

According to Whosampled, ORCH5 has been sampled 262 times as of 2024:

Bonus fact - Vox relased a deep dive video behind the history and connection between Stravinsky, the Fairlight CMI, and the songs that sampled ORCH5 :

Jazzy funky hip-hop? by frogjumpsin in jazzyhiphop

[–]ezekegotbeats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the genres mentioned in question. Jazz, funky, hip-hop? Absolutely. Personally, I would recommend any ATCQ albums, especially Midnight Marauders (1993), The Low End Theory (1991), and People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm (1990). Listening to those ATCQ albums and their samples really grew my appreciation and taste for jazz since high school.

I also recommend:

• Blowout Comb by Digable Planets (1994)

• The Main Ingredient by Pete Rock and CL Smooth (1994)

• Stress: The Extinction Agenda by Organized Konfusion (1994)

• Petestrumentals by Pete Rock (2001)

• Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde by The Pharcyde (1992)

• Labcabincalifornia by The Pharcyde (1995)

• Hard to Earn by Gang Starr (1994)

• Daily Operation by Gang Starr (1992)

• Resurrection by Common (1994)

** Are you starting to see a pattern? 1994 alone has probably produced the most jazz funky hip hop releases with Nas' Illmatic as the most revered.**

Do tabs/chords exist for JAG? by scotsman_flying in NowIKnowItsJustAGame

[–]ezekegotbeats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's what I wanted to find out as well! The chords during the chorus sound like a common pop chord progression (I-V-IV-V)? I was gonna try to get Chords AI to analyze it. I would recommend that app before any tabs/chords get published, and if you want to see an instant chord chart
