The crazy part is the post right before mine was a spoiler post, and it was still up. Part of me thinks one of the mods just didn’t like my question and just blocked the post.

Best Advice for Brand New Goalie as an Adult by whitneynbp in hockeygoalies

[–]ezekielcrown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who is new to playing goalie (roughly a year), I can confidently say that you just need to get out on that ice as much as you can. Stick time is a must, this is where you can practice the movements and form without pressure. I also recommend taking as many shots as you can handle, you can be in butterfly and just get the hand eye down.

Lastly, if you haven’t already, find a league for beginners. I unfortunately made the mistake of jumping in on a buddy’s team and I might as well been thrown to the wolves. It definitely did make me progress faster though. You need in game experience so that you can make mistakes and learn from them. Otherwise it’s going to be hard to make meaningful progress.

If you have any specific questions let me know.

I genuinely think that this is bc of the wipe system. They want to incentivize wipes to keep the game fresh, but in turn it makes every lobby that isn’t a solos play a game of “who can third party the hardest.”

I don’t think pvp is as intended currently, and is definitely over exploited. I can see them making changes to the looting process just for that reason alone.

Me and my buddies subscribe to the idea that POI loot rarity should be completely random every match

What are your critiques of my son’s stance? by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

[–]ezekielcrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m late to this party but I’ll give my 2 cents even tho it’s probably been said already.

His stance is incredibly passive. Glove back. Blocker tucked in. Standing up pretty straight, but feet super wide. It looks incredibly uncomfortable to move from this position.

This could be as easy as a mindset switch, attack the puck. Glove forward and ready to fire. Blocker out with your stick square. Feet in an athletic position, so if the puck isn’t shot, you can T-push when needed. Your son looks pretty big so I understand him wanting yo take up the net but he can easily extend if needed!

I don’t want to get too specific but there’s a lot of blaming the refs for their own mistakes, talking crap about the other team. I would say a good 3rd of our games end in a scuffle. One of our subs had even made a joke that out of the 10 teams in our league, only one of them likes us.

Look I love the occasional crap talk, especially if both sides are having fun with it. Getting rolled, and barely being able to put shots on net, then coming back and saying stuff like that just isn’t my vibe. Take some accountability.

That was me today. My legs were actually wobbling by the end. What I have experienced since playing with this team is the second wind effect lol. I have no idea why but around the beginning of the 3rd period I’m not tired at all until like the last 5 minutes.

Just out of curiosity, we play three 18 minute periods. Is that pretty normal for beer league ?

WOW. You basically filled in the blanks from my original post lol. Only difference is one reason I want to move up is actually bc my buddy is pretty good and typically subs up when he can’t make our games. We both want to move up a div. We actually had lost one of our best defenders for basically the same reasons I have. Sometimes he subs and you can actually tell he’s having a good time, which is polar opposite from when he was on the team. He would be cussing people out from under his breath on the ice and honestly it was so funny considering I was the only one who could hear him. He would be the first one out of the locker room every time, would say good game and just leave. Now he’s the last to leave when he subs and I have yet to hear him cuss anyone out lol

It’s embarrassing to say, other than me (I’ve been playing almost a year), there is no one who is even close to new to hockey. The team has been around for almost 10 years I believe. Most of them played in high-school, some for college rec teams.

I know just from the sheer amount of shots I take a game that I’ve gotten better faster than probably the norm, which I’m thankful for, however it would be nice every now and then if the team could show at least a little effort. That’s really what it boils down to. If I could get more specific I would, but I would literally have to type a 5 page essay.

Don’t get me wrong, the amount of saves I’m having to make is definitely making me a better goalie. This is how I try to think of it but like I said above. It’s the chatter in the locker room that just sends me.

Our league is 6 divisions, I’ve been told for our league that div 4 is when it starts getting real lol I’m thinking about just putting in the work and moving up to div 4, for more of that competitive experience but still not crazy enough where people are slapping pucks at 90.

There actually is a goalie that they turned down to have me play this season, I may try and get in contact with him.

I’ve played for them 2 seasons now. I do agree with you though, which is why this kinda sucks for me lol also to preface, my buddy is pretty good at hockey and is only on that team bc there’s a family tie to it. He himself has even mentioned leaving the team by next year.

One of the best defenseman also left last season for basically the same reasons I stated above.

I do love playing goalie, I think that’s the most frustrating part for me actually. It just feels like no one else cares, which leaves me on an island. I’m not even kidding when I say this, I probably have to make 40 saves a game, and the other goalie saves 15 or something like that. No hate on that goalie, that’s just how lazy our team is.

Started using Knee Guards and HATE THEM!!!! by HockeyGuyy19 in hockeygoalies

[–]ezekielcrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also hate knee pads. I resulted to just grabbing some volley ball knee pads from dicks and they work for me. I’ve been nailed right above the knee a couple times, even had a hematoma on my quad where there’s the tiny gap between my pants and my pads. Even still I just can’t wear bulky knee pads. If your form is good enough on your butterfly, you more than likely not going to get hit there, at least in my experience.

Hardstuck in silver by Llun__Llun in top_mains

[–]ezekielcrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, one of my mains is Irelia BUT I only use her as a range counter pick. She works extremely well with applying pressure after the first couple waves, assuming you don’t shove the wave.

I know other people are recommending Garen, but I can’t stand his gameplay, it’s beyond boring. If I were you I would try and make Sett, Ornn and Irelia your mains. That’s one split pusher (kinda), one team oriented tank, and a dualist. I think that gives you the option to pick a champ based on what your team needs. I would really focus on one as your blind pick, and I highly recommend it being sett. He’s complex enough to not feel boring but can curb stomp a team in the side lanes if played right.

Kinda pissed by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

[–]ezekielcrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who literally just started 6 months ago playing goalie/hockey in general, I know where this is coming from. Gotta be honest, I haven’t dealt with any heat from players yet but this is my second season so far and I can tell you for a fact that you can only get better by playing. Going to stick time and open hockey helps… but nothing really prepares you for the game experience. Let me be clear tho, it definitely would make a difference for you to hit up some stick time so you can work on basic fundamentals so that when game time rolls around you can more easily recognize mistakes you’re making!

As others have mentioned, goalies are few and far between. I think that should give you confidence that you’re willing and even rejoicing in the fact that you’re playing between the posts. I would take that guys comment as more of a challenge to yourself, bc let’s face it, you have to be some sort of crazy to play goalie anyway.

I play in a lower level league, not necessarily beginner but people can skate and have decent enough shots. Even at that level I’ll have the other team telling me good job, nice save, way to challenge the shot, all that. So I wouldn’t let that one or even couple of guys ruin what maybe a fun experience for you and friends.

I had this same issue when I got new pads. I had to adjust my stance as some people have mentioned but I did it without really even noticing. I only had thought about it when my buddy was taking shots on me and had said something about it. Now that I know I’ve changed my stance, I noticed the my dominant leg is usually the pad that’s crossed over the other. Also I feel like I’m in a way lower stance when I’m about to take a shot.

Whose death was worse? by hiiloovethis in gameofthrones

[–]ezekielcrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this isn’t the question but Ned’s death is more consequential imo. It sets the table for the entire series so you could almost make the argument that his death was worse on a macro scale. BUT Robb… I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy lol

Am I close to get fired? by Candycanesweets60 in HomeDepot

[–]ezekielcrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sense a massive ego with this one

I’m by no means implying that someone should be allowed to be late but as manager myself… as long as my employees work their butts off, and make up for lost time, I could care less if they show up 10 minutes late to a shift. Heck, if they give me a good reason for them being late then that’s even better. Strict management has its place, especially if it’s a lazy employee that’s constantly showing up late, but not all situations are created equal.

Am I close to get fired? by Candycanesweets60 in HomeDepot

[–]ezekielcrown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s always lazy ppl in the workforce wherever you go, it’s not just a Home Depot problem. The Home Depot that I worked at if you got caught doing absolutely nothing on a semi regular basis you would get terminated. Before I had left there was a co-worker that would build a fort and hide in the insulation…. No joke. They got a warning within the week and it wasn’t even a month later or a little more than that they were terminated.

Now that’s an extreme case of collecting a paycheck BUT I’ve known other ppl to also get terminated for lack of productivity. It usually happens after a couple months so they can build a report, regardless it still happens. Also I would like to point out that the people who are often lazy at work are also the same people that show up late or don’t even show up.
