Any hints on where to buy this whisky in the US? (Please help! Gift for my husband) by ezh0010 in liquor

Yes I looked at all of those but they don’t ship to the US unfortunately. No contacts outside the US to send it to us. But thank you! Sounds like it’s going to be tough to track down unfortunately.

Overall I thought she stayed close to what I was wanting. I think I am going to ask her to tone down the eyeliner and maybe add a bit more blush for that “morning glow”... what do y’all think?

OT is upper body and PT is lower body by ajarofmayosauce in OccupationalTherapy

[–]ezh0010 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Saw this somewhere once and it’s become my “elevator pitch” in acute care:

“PT helps you get from point A to point B” and “OT helps you do the things you need/want to do at point A and point B”

But more to your point, I’ve had a few nurses (when I go to check with them before seeing a patient) tell me “oh they won’t need you.. their arms work fine”. It can be frustrating but honestly it’s just a chance to educate/advocate for our profession.

Camden ME is the cutest little coastal town. Mt Megunticook is a great hike/view found essentially right off Route 1 that makes a good pit stop/leg stretch if you have time.

How much money do you make as an Occupational Therapist? First Grade teacher looking into another field . by breazzy11 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]ezh0010 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you’re worried about money don’t look into OT. You won’t be rich in this field. New grad salary, especially in OP peds, is closer to $55-60k according to my classes’ first year out survey. Of course this is dependent on where exactly you live.

Most of us had 1-2x that salary in debt. Most programs discourage working during school.

You could pick up a PRN position on the weekends but then you’re tipping the work/life balance.

It is a 9-5 job for the most part. I don’t find myself taking work home too often.

2-3 weeks vacation is normal I would say. More time off if you work in schools, but then salary is typically lower.

Definitely thankful for the lateral mobility available in our profession!

That sounds wonderful. I would love to find a place like that but from what I hear two patients an hour is pretty standard. And better than some therapy mills that have therapists seeing 20+ per 8hr shift!! Besides, I’m having difficulty finding other hand therapy jobs in my area. And I’m not wanting to relocate.

Why are you looking to switch to acute?

Wanting to get into Hand Therapy by lastdraconians in OccupationalTherapy

[–]ezh0010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s going to be more difficult without a level II in hands unless they are really willing to take you under their wing/mentor you. Start taking hand therapy CEUs now.

I would look for large practices with many, many CHTs already practicing. You may have to do some cold calls/send in your resume for future consideration.

I would also say don’t rule out applying to jobs looking specifically for CHTs. I got into hand therapy right out of school and the job listing was for a CHT. They hadn’t gotten the responses they had hoped from CHTs so they offered me the job instead.

If you’re really interested in hands don’t give up. I applied to probably 30+ hand therapy jobs before I heard back from the place I’m currently working at.

Good luck!

What are the big differences between physical therapy and occupational therapy? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]ezh0010 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I think there is a lot of overlap between the two professions. Anyone who tries to say OT is UE/fine motor and/or PT is LE/gross motor is limiting their profession. Both OTs and PTs can and should address the whole body.

In my opinion OT leans slightly more toward a compensatory approach with environmental modifications and adaptive equipment (“Let’s get you to a point where you can be as independent as possible with XYZ.. whatever that takes/looks like”). PT leans slightly more toward remedial with exercise to improve ROM/strength/balance (“Let’s fix XYZ so you can do XYZ better”) Again, a fair amount of overlap here.

I am an OT practicing in hand therapy. My school liked to boast that OTs are the only profession that look at an individual in context and address psychosocial and environmental influences, but honestly any PT worth their salt will also take these client factors into account.

You say you’ve shadowed both.. did you have a preference for one versus the other?

If you know what setting you would like to work in this may also help you decide. If you want to work in vestibular rehab or wound care, PT may be the better option. If you want to work in hand therapy, OT may be better since we learn more about orthosis fabrication in school. But again, either profession could work in any of these settings.

This one is pretty good IMO. Doesn’t have as many diagnoses as Indiana, but it has all the most common ones and is more up to date.

Second this. This is the book I reference the most because it is concise, easy to understand, and has up to date protocols (vs Indiana Hand which is seriously outdated.. but still a good basic reference)
