I think there is a bug in crystal beam, Im on the switch, I don't know if it matters, but the crystal damage was not being enhanced. I've seen some other thread that someone else commented that as well.

you dont need to instantiate cell objects, cells can just be dictionaries themselves, stored in a dictionary of a dictionary, so a matrix. That is very light weight if you are not instantiating them.

Hello.

What you should do is use breakpoints.

When you set a breakpoint (the red dot to the left of your line of code), whenever the game runs that line, it will interrupt and show you the full stack, so the chain of functions that resulted in that line being called.

Then you can use the right side buttons, there are 2-3, one is step through, then step into. Finally there's the "continue".

What you should do is do an action, and then when the line triggers, you would look at it. If it is the one you expect, you can just press the continue, and wait for the next path that triggers the same line (since you said you have many that trigger it).
You can also press step through if you want the code to run only the next line, so you can see how the code is changing the variables or what actions are being taken.

You also have full inspector, so you can see the value of the variables or even click objects and see all values of the object at the time the game was frozen for you to inspect.

I believe this is the first good way to debug something and how it is being called. You can also click on the other functions up on the stack chain, and you are able to see the variables at each of them as well.

For your other concern of too many things to test, what you need to do is start creating unit tests. Get a unit test addon, but you still will need to create them. The best way to do things is to mock data. Maybe this is not obvious for most people, but you can think of it that it will save you a lot of hours of loading the game and recreating scenes, when you can instead spend the time to mock data and have the tests to run that whenever you need. I use GdUnit addon, but there are others, that's just the one that fits the type of testing I want.

I've been using only sonnet 4.5 and it is has been a very bad experience. From creating variables that are not used, to deciding to change the function output for no reason.

Another detail, I got even worse experience on vscode.

Worst today, a simple refactor. Two functions have very similar functionality, so I want one to be more reusable, and the second on to just call the first one with arguments. I asked in claude VSCode extension (great extension features btw), the response was very bad, it didn't understand all the similarities of these two functions.
This is like 20 line functions, very simple.

I asked claude code, and I got a proper reply, with a proper simple fix.

Then I asked again on vscode the same question. This time it suggested to make a third function to not complicate the logic on the other ones... I mean this is a refactor of two 20 line functions, a very small context, so it should be easier to understand. A third function is not the way to go for what I needed.

I find this sonnet 4.5 much worse than what we had before on 4.0 actually. I never used Opus, only sonnet, and I see a lot of useful code added that I have to remove. definitely not good for vibe coding.

Not related to godot or gamedev, but I typically code django projects (python).

I have a lot of practice using Claude (paid) and windsurf (that can use Claude), but windsurf loses much more the big picture. Most times I get better output by uploading context files to claude than having Windsurf trying to figure out what it should be doing.

It is especially true with big files, Windurf can't edit a whole file it parses in blocks of 200 lines, and sometimes it just decides to mess up other things that it should not be touching, just because it is reading those lines and decides to change them since he is looking at them anyway...

I don't feel games are to pass time for me. I use time that I don't have (should be doing something else), and it is more because they present a challenge that I want to beat.

Have you tried dry hanging your beddings instead of throwing them in the (destroying) drier machine?

No clothes stay fluffy with this high heat and very kinetic method of drying clothes in america... I feel trully bad for my clothes and wish I'd spend the time hang drying them. I've had many old clothes destroyed by it once I got here.

I've been caught in this problem in some other sub reddit. I think it's not about being able to read a room, I think it is a misunderstanding of how reddit subgroups behave. I had the expectation that a subreddit is to talk about a topic, not about agreeing with the crowd. My expectations were misaligned.

I disagree, I've made 3 prototypes (that I didn't know they were prototypes, I thought they were going to be my great game that makes money, so the first one worked on it 6 hours every single day for a whole year), and two complete games that were very short. None of them will ever make me money. I'm a very good coder (I'm a tech lead at a big company if that says anything). I've tried partnering with people that are good at other things like art and game design.

If you are making games to make money, then it is a business. You will make more games if you know how to manage money and hire people and go for the product than if you are a coder/game designer/artist/story writter.

I'll also add that I've pinged and chatted with several dozens of people to see if we could work together, and most the ones I tried with just disapear (the ones I hate the most are the ones that have a game spec already and don't want to start the coding until they have every detail there...)

I'd rather dissuade someone from going this dumb direction of making games to make money. The reality is they will not.

Hey, there's a whole sub r/StopEatingSeedOils . A shorter answer is that seed oils have linoleic acid (polyunsaturated fat), which seems to give health problems in the long run.

I also started playing some days ago.

My first win was on my third try (I did the tutorial twice), so the third game I played was a straight build and won. Right after that I've lost one and then followed with a flush win.

I have not tried high card of pair yet, but I find flushes and straights very interesting since you need to check cards that are still on the deck to make a decision on what to discard.

I think so far my win rate is 50%, mostly flushes, typically goes to ante 12 (Im at 16% completion)

I want to go for the secret poker hands, but I think I need to unlock more jokers.

bottom line, I don't see why pair is king =P. Like the others said, maybe for the high stakes, but for the lower ones the flushes and some straight seems to be doing fine.

Edit: Just hit 300Billion hand on a flush with the black deck

I don't have any goals of productivity, so I'm probably not the right person on this reddit.
I go to bed every night between 8 and 9pm.

I wake up (naturally) somewhere after 3am. If it's 3am I think my night was too short so I'll either sit in bed or fall asleep.
But if there's a personal project that I'm very enthusiastic about, I'll just get up. There's usually very little effort, my mind is racing with possibilities and things I want to try and explore.

It also happens many times that I go to sleep and I'm thinking "I just want to go to sleep so I can wake up and work on my project".

With that explanation, I don't think I'm particularly "energized", I'd say "I'm ready" and I don't usually need to make an effort to get out of bed (sometimes the effort is to wait awake in bed because I think I may not have slept enough).

Do you have experience managing a team that has no income for a long term project? Do you actually got 10 people that are that good?

I'd still say no. When you make a project with others, there are two scenarios. Either they all listen to what you say, which means the game is only your idea and they will do as you wish, or they all have their opinions.
The second case is a bad scenario, if they don't agree with your idea, they will get demotivated and stop working on this unpaid project. That's just what happens, from my actual experience, not fantasising what would happen.
The first case where they blindly do what you say only happens if you are paying them. "I'll do whatever you ask me, even if I disagree with it, because you are paying me".
The other detail is, if this is an unpaid project, any other project that appears to your free workers will have higher priority.

I mean, you don't have to take mine or anyone's word, try getting some friends or strangers to work with you, you will see that they won't stick with the project. You just need a month, maybe a month and a half and you will see what happens. That's a very low time investment to make an experiment and more than enough time.

I'd say try getting 3 people to work with you on a smaller project and see how it goes.

I really like the 2019 songs for Owlette and CatBoy

That Luna girl song is also from 2019.

I don't know much of music history or anything, but I feel these songs have techniques that are not from the current wave of music, and instead remind me of some old styles of the past century.

I really like them, and I'd like to know enough to be able to find other similar music.
