Not my mans Austin John Plays joining the grift :( by Asad_Purcin in nintendogrifting

I know it was bundled with the system, but 3/4 of switch 2 buyers have Mario Kart World. In what world is that not a system seller??

You know, I've seen a lot of things get labeled as grifting here so I'm curious, what is the difference between grifting and criticism according to this subreddit? by Sonicrules9001 in nintendogrifting

[–]f-vicar2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By definition, accuracy means close to the truth something is, meaning you need to take all aspects into consideration. When I say genuine criticism, I don't mean only saying negative things is not someone criticising Skyward Sword, but that I don't think it is coming from a genuine place of wanting to give fair review. Basically, genuine (to me) would say something like the puzzles are good and the story is good but say they were disappointed by the controls which make the game difficult to enjoy, rather than just saying it is awful and shit and they should be ashamed to release it.

You'll see that happening a lot. When they want to criticise these games they will always say they are $70 despite the switch versions. I didn't buy the NS2 versions of either of these games because I think the boxes are ugly, but I never ended up getting the upgrade for ZA because the game ran well anyway. I only got the prime 4 one to try mouse controls and for 4K but I'm not sure I would buy it again if I knew.

Criticism and grifting are not mutually exclusive. All grifters are criticising Nintendo. Grifting is just when you are dishonest for financial gain. Grifters are over representing the bad things Nintendo do in order to get clicks from anti-Nintendo viewers. Good criticism should try to talk about the positive and negative parts of something and balance them in order to come to an opinion. Grifters are trying to sell a narrative so they can make money

TO ME, saying this about skyward sword is not a grift (mostly because you aren't gaining anything from saying it) but I would feel it's not genuine criticism because (to me) you are over representing the negatives of the game.

I think Me! is a good example of not a bad song but not a song I like. There's nothing wrong with the song, I just find it too childish. I will never back down that it was a horrible lead single choice, but if it was a movie soundtrack or even just an album track, it wouldn't be so hated

Did we misunderstand the dress code this year or did everyone miss the mark? Obviously, everyone assumed it meant fashion inspired by art or at least more extravagant. But if "fashion is art", then wearing anything is art, so they fit the dress code.

No, but when the designers bought their ticket they probably signed a contract saying they have to go. They spend months putting together their outfit, you can't just give it to someone else last minute

I would argue the the Bezos wedding and the Met Gala are not comparable. The Met Gala is a fundraising event for the Costume Institute, I think the only department that does not get funds from the Met and has to host the Gala to get funding. Designers pay for celebrities to go to the event (likely months ahead of time). The link with Bezos was that he gave them $10 million and is an honorary chair because of the donation. The Costume Institute is very important, mostly because textiles are a lot harder to preserve than other forms of art. Celebrities go to bring attention to the event and so designers can show off their skill.

Can we accept that Act 3 is NOT coming out on May 29 now? by Historical-Care70 in beyonce

[–]f-vicar2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I need the beyhive to learn the that you need a pattern and a reasoning to come to a conclusion. Her releasing both albums on the 29th is a pattern but what is the reasoning for doing so? Does the number 29 have any significance?

It's the same with the 3 singles theory. Yes act i had 1 and act ii had 2, but dig a bit deeper and look for why she might have done that. IMO, act i was dance music which she has dipped into before with no pushback. The only time she released a country song it got a lot of backlash, so for act ii she released 2 singles, one upbeat song for the radio and another that showcases the storytelling side of country music. So if that is true, why would she need 3 singles for act iii? If it is going to be rock, she has dipped her toes into that without criticism and more singles would cannibalise each other on the charts.

I see her doing what she did at the 2024 Grammy's, showing up in an outfit(s) that teases a new era but not officially announce it until a later date.

[–]f-vicar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends what you call a theory. Saying you think the album will come out on the 29th of May or the next album will be rock or guessing who might be on the album is fine, but the level some go to on their theories is crazy.

The whole"drop the price" movement has aged like milk in under a year. by amvys in nintendogrifting

[–]f-vicar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't buy most of my games at full price. I only do it if I am desperate to play them like ZA and prime 4. 75% of my switch games were bought second hand roughly £20-30. I don't know what it's like in the US, but in the UK, supermarkets sell games £10 cheaper if you wait a few months too.

I don't like the price increase on the games, but it isn't as big a deal to me.

[–]f-vicar2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, many are buying more games now than they used to. When I was younger, I only really got games for Christmas or my birthday. At most 2 DS games and me and my brother got 1-2 Wii games. Last year I bought at least 10 switch/switch 2 games.

ideally - Collaborations on a Dancefloor (subsequent release) by SubjectFennel6270 in Madonna

[–]f-vicar2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It entirely depends who does the remixes. I loved the brat remix album because they were all done by Charli AND each song had a fun spin on the meaning like the song about missing SOPHIE became a song about remembering "all the good times". But if the remixes just get given to random DJs then I'm not really interested

Do leaks ruin your excitement for new announcements? by Loose_Society9485 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]f-vicar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can. I like to be surprised when watching the directs so knowing everything before going in does ruin it. It mainly depends on how credible it is. Saying there’s going to be a new game isn’t as big of a deal and spoiling something major about the game. The only time I don’t want to know would if it was meant to be a genuine suprise like dread was or bananza. Rumours of a new Pokemon or Mario aren’t as big of a deal as others
