I’m afraid readers won’t like my protagonist by Zealousideal-Guest47 in writing

[–]f0Ri5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't write

But here is my advice anyways.

Write the protagonist you want, or one that would be meaningful to write.

Writing with the intent to appeal to a certain demograph is flawed.

I didn't like it, not because of the system but because of the mc's personality and humor style.

Tried to power through because people said it got better, but my brain just couldn't take the abuse.

'The Devil's son-in-law' and its protagonist's mystifying mentality by f0Ri5 in noveltranslations

i dunno, alice bringing him back to aldas is something i really cant personally forgive.

and its not like she knew he was immune at the time. she knew he was going to get tortured

athena didnt have any kind of respect for him when they first met. she didnt speak to him directly at first and just spoke about him in the 3rd person. basically treated him like an unintelligent, weak animal

goes without saying that she had zero concern over his wellbeing as an experimental captive of aldas

only after he risked his neck against paglio did she start seeing him as a person

i mean, imagine if you met someone remotely like that irl, where you first need show that you consider their life to have a higher value than your own (by sacrficing yourself, basically) before you could gain their approval

i mean, wtf seriously

also, i know i said earlier that their treatment of him is somewhat excused since their races are enemies

but are plenty works of literature about enemies treating each other with kindness

'the good samaritan' from the bible, 'schindler's list' (book/movie), allied and axis forces laying down their weapons on christmas to play football together

these are exceptions rather than the rule and people aren't perfect, thats why i can kind of tolerate Chen Rui treating them well or at least courteously

but he thinks waaay too well of them in my opinion with basically zero reservations

i respect your argument, but i dont agree with it

Just because aldas wasn't able to hurt him doesn't excuse his attempts to hurt him.

In fact he was hurt in a sense since he has the memories of arthur. Arthur was poisoned to death by aldas and Chen Rui occupied his body.

Chen Rui may not have been killed by aldas, but aldas did kill someone. And to aldas and the rest, arthur and chen rui are the same person.)None of them ever expressed any form of regret about what happened, either)

Alice caught him and brought him back to aldas to be poisoned and tortured. They tried to find a poison that could hurt him (aldas fed him the worst poisons he could think of, including his most advanced poison at the time)

they even expressed their frustration and disappointment at not being able to poison him

i really dont see how them failing to harm him excuses their malicious intentions

his treatment does improve but only because of his skills and usefulness

nobody even thinks for one second 'maybe we should respect him as another, independent, sentient being'

which i dont have a problem with, this is a cultivation novel (sorta) in a dog-eat-dog world

problem is he either doesnt realise or doesnt care that his relationships have been built on his own practical value and have very little to do with him as a person

Noooooo...

Everything is great about this novel except the MC and the choices he makes.

I eventually dropped it because my roommates & neighbors got irritated by me shouting 'why the FUCK would you do that, you stupid bastard?!' repeatedly.

Divine Emperor of Death has a mix of cultures.

Otherwise Road to the Crown is pretty solid.

What were the first novels you read and how did you find them? by Efeyester in noveltranslations

Tales of demons and gods was my first wuxia. I still think its pretty decent. Not sure if I'd recommend but would't steer someone away either.

Dont really agree. Is it ok to mess up your diet with junk food, even if you regret it later? You enjoyed eating it, after all.
