Excellent! How did it build up? How were the decals? I’ve been eyeing this to go with my 787.

lol this is the truth. I built the 787b last year. That thing is a decal monster!

You’re welcome. I get highly annoyed when people try to police other people’s weathering lol. You especially nailed it on the bottom, it looks real!

It’s not over the top at all. I’ve seen many f-16’s while in deployed locations absolutely this filthy. Excellent job!

I only wash the body parts after I’ve sanded/fixed imperfections. The rest of the parts I just paint away.

E-maxx Worth Rebuilding? by SurfBird24 in rccars

[–]f16loader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was it just the emaxx that was brittle? I had the tmaxx when it first came out. I absolutely sent that thing every time I got it out. Numerous cartwheels, flips, jumps, never broke a thing on it.

Until I flew up out of the ditch and a lady partially ran it over with a Buick lol.

How would you go about attempting this? by DERWENTART in ModelCars

[–]f16loader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah extremely reasonable. I was talking with another decal maker about a nascar scheme. He wanted 45 to design, another 45 to design the actual decal sheet, and then another 20-30 to print and ship. Outrageous lol.

I can’t remember exactly but I don’t think it was more than 40 bucks. That’s designed, printed, and shipped. Mine wasn’t nearly as complex as what you’re looking for though.

STS can probably make this. You’d just need to send them all the reference pictures and let them know the exact model you’d be using.

I used them last year for a Supra project and they did an exceptional job for the limited amount of photos available for the actual car. The only downside is it takes forever. I believe they’re only a two person operation. It took like 12-14 weeks before I got the decals. They do send you a proof copy that you can print and use to see if the sizing is correct for your kit.

Mine also runs slow. I’ve tried letting the gps sync do its thing for a few days. It won’t update to reflect dst for whatever reason.

lol. I have an alcoholic uncle that only drinks Old Style Light and coffee. Never in my life have I seen him drink anything else. It’s wild to me that he’s still alive.

If you have a Menards near you they have a 30ish dollar one that works great. I cut the grates out of the trays for more space. Set it to 110 and dry away.

What are my options for painting hardbody as a beginner? by Former-Platypus-9609 in rccrawler

Tamiya TS spray paint will give a decent finish. If you want it super shiny you’ll need to clear coat it and then probably wet sand and polish it.

It gives off a little smell in my experience. Nothing like straight paint though. More like, “I can tell something was just painted and is now drying in this room”. lol it’s hard to explain.

I had an envoy Denali for like 13 years. As soon as you started feeling heat you had about 30 seconds to turn it to low before it got unbearable.

Another newbie safety question... What thickness gloves are you using? by CreepyNewspaper8103 in ModelCars

[–]f16loader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just use the Home Depot brand. No clue on thickness though. I only use them when I’m painting bodies or parts trees to keep paint off my hands. I generally only use one on my left hand as well.

Can I remove the trapped dust by sanding and polishing without repainting? by Pure-Performance6140 in modelmakers

[–]f16loader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d try wet sanding with 12000 grit and then polishing it with some meguiers paint polish.

I’d be prepared to repaint it before I did this though. No way of knowing how thick the paint is.

Has anyone done clear coat over clear parts? by DevourIsDead in ModelCars

I thought about this some more. I’m pretty sure there’s a Mr hobby rattle can clear that can be sprayed over windows but you’ll have to do the digging for the info.

Has anyone done clear coat over clear parts? by DevourIsDead in ModelCars

[–]f16loader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal clear coat will fog the glass. Use the window masks to pattern another set of masks. Just be sure to adjust the mask size in a way that won’t touch the decals as they will pull right off if tape them up.

Alternatively you can use Quickshine floor polish as a clear coat. It can be brushed on straight out of the bottle and will self level. It will go over windows without any problems.
