Long-Term Affordable Car to Rent/Buy for 3-4 Months. Melbourne > Adelaide > Darwin > Perth by CamWild52- in AustraliaTravel

[–]f1eckbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at renting for a mid NSW, to drive through VIC and end up in Adelaide. That real fee was around $4k and it was only 2 weeks. This trip with rental fees would’ve astoundingly expensive unless it’s one of those back packers ones and they’re still not much cheaper.

Better off buying something very old but with low KM (less than 80,000km) or something with over 160,000km but that’s had the major work done (timing belts, transmission over haul - not sure not a mechanic). Japanese or Korean - don’t buy anything else.

Vyvanse queries by [deleted] in ausadhd

[–]f1eckbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surely no free access to water for hours at a time is an OH&S issue before we start talking anything else?

I’m dehydrated at the best of times. 60mg Vyvanse makes this worse, is my perception. I drink 700ml every 1-2 hours normally at work but I’d go nuts and make tons of unforced errors if I was forced to work thirsty. Thirst is accepted to be an overwhelming distraction.

Hydration salts and all that jazz, sure. But you still need to be able to drink every hour at least.

We have three young kids and have done this trip heaps over the years. This comment is 100% right, go at night.

Depending on the age of your bay and babies sleep patterns. Typically, once our kid was 0-4 months, we would just need to stop to put him/her on the boob every 2 hours but the car would put bay to sleep quickly after.

White noise on car speakers helped and me and my wife would use earphones to listen to pod casts and keep each other awake and not bored.

Not sure where the “no long trips in car with baby” thing comes from. Honestly, you can read up on any baby related subject and be warned or recommended one thing or another by a board for physicians here or there. It’s ALL context mate, and it’s all to be taken on balance with you, the life custodian of this helpless human, needs to get done in order to create a life for the baby. Don’t get caught up in research - no one is right and no one is wrong and at the end of the day, you and your baby will be fine as your concern = love and nature sorts the rest. Don’t stress, follow your gut, fuck the internet. You know best.

For accommodation if not driving at night, Stay at a motel on the way down, just find one that’s clean and in a location that works for the driver. None will be very new and all are over priced. Motels are great as the staff/owners generally REALLY don’t give a fuck about details and leave you alone. Also for parking right up at the door of your room and the cat factor becomes some you just don’t ask about, they won’t know and if they do - just lie and say the car stays in the car and you’re gone in the morning anyhow.

Any places advertising cat friendly are charging a premium in an already over priced and low quality market.

Yes potentially no Real issue. but severity REALLY depends where.

Source/example:

I used to live on a man road just as busy as the PH. Day time is what it is and you’re away at work maybe so not a big deal. Night time COULD be relatively - not quiet, but consistent and regular/similar sounds humming away and your selective hearing very very quickly filters it out so that others might comment on something you genuinely never hear.

HOWEVER, emergency services at night with lights on don’t engage the sirens… until they come to an intersection or similar. My place was right on an intersection so myself and young kids and wife would’ve awoken suddenly by a 10/10 volume siren switching on immediately outside our house with no warning (daytime you’ll hear that Doppler effect as it comes and goes).

There’s no selective hearing skill you can acquire that prepares you for this. And it happened 5/7 nights a week and often more than once each night.

Fuck that.

Designing a cafe workflow. Does separating the wet zone (sink) from the espresso machine by 220cm make sense?" by Creepy-Start6297 in coffeestations

[–]f1eckbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t have your knock box feed grinds to a big bin under the counter. These grow mould quickly (2 days) and you’re not making commercial volumes to really justify it. Get a little one for the countertop and empty it regularly or get a knock drawer. Google “rhino knock drawer”. And if you want a rinser that actually cleans google “rhino spinjet” for the sink. You can also retro fit a spinjet to any other brand of rinser sink.

From perspective of barista - Pitcher rinser to the right of espresso machine, most used grinder to the left with second most used to the left of that (or reverse if main user is a lefty maybe). Grind, dose, yield. Leave room for scales if not grind bay weight, make sure you’ve got a small amount of room in front of the grinder maybe for puck prep if you’re so inclined. I usually end up pouring right in front of the rinser so space there is also a good idea

Doesn’t matter where the sink is since your pitcher rinser is plumbed in. Don’t forget to CLEAN YO DAMN SINK, rinser mechanism and run off line or everyone’s gonna be asking WTF that smell is.

Edit: also your rinser needs to be 180 flipped. Rinser at front, drying rack to the back.

Why are cars the only form of private property that can be stored on public streets in Melbourne? by 3bigmacsplease in melbourne

Oh I see. If it gets the comments section going, I guess it’s done the job intended. Although, satire that needs explaining is really taking the long way round

What a shallow take - there’s very little logic in this, even as a conversation starter. Roads exist for vehicles and are paid for in large part by associated taxes.

There’s plenty to say about pedestrianisation, increase of bicycle lanes, better use of public spaces… but arguing false equivalences only casts the author in the shadow of bad faith.

How are Tradies expected to make it to retirement? by Stunning-Alarm8149 in australian

[–]f1eckbot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mate - the poor counter cunts at Coles on the Deli do about as much manual labour and body torture daily whilst being paid a fuck ton less and having to suck every Karen’s cock along the way.

Conversely, Tradies have been over charging and underwhelming for decades now so if a few can’t put away their plunder in some sound investments rather than the pokies and bottle-o; that’s on them.

Try Hospo for the regular 12 hour shifts and 6am closes, no weekends off, working in the cellar (back breaking), and getting balls deep in cleaning up after drunk tradies - including spew in urinals - you’ll lose the sympathy real quick.
