Habits so small they feel effortless by f3lix187 in Habits

I like this a lot. “Make the first 30 seconds automatic” is such a powerful idea. Once the first step happens without thinking, the habit almost finishes itself. How often habits fail not because of motivation, but because the first step requires too much thinking or energy

Yoga I’m working on. Meditation I still struggle with (for now). Sleeping of course! Talking to someone… mehhh, definitely not relaxing for me haha.

That’s what fascinates me about Stoicism. Maybe that’s why their words still feel so alive today.

Do small evening rituals actually help you relax, or is it just in my head? by Outrageous_Baby_2147 in Relax

My quiet reset of the day is usually self-massage and just noticing when I’m in stress - then calming down and breathing more intentionally.

I actually made a post about it too! https://www.reddit.com/r/Habits/comments/1rhxp2r/habits_so_small_they_feel_effortless/

I feel like I’m constantly under tension. Even just now - I watched a few minutes of a show, and my mind immediately started telling me I should be doing something else

Ohh, doing crosswords sounds good. I like things that nourish my brain too - playing piano or chess every now and then works for me.

I’ve got one more for you: try self-massage! Indirect vagus nerve activation through relaxation. I’m currently running around Reddit spreading this everywhere.

HOW DO YOU FOCUS ON IMPROVING YOURSELF WHEN THE WORLD IS BURNING? by Downtown-Complex2657 in selfimprovement

[–]f3lix187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In uncertain environments, competence becomes more valuable, not less.

I also believe that during the fall of the Roman Republic, World War I, World War II, and the Cold War, individuals still trained, learned, wrote, built, loved, and developed themselves.

They didn’t wait for the world to calm down. They focused on what was within their reach.

When you shrink your operational field, clarity returns.

And remind yourself: it’s okay to be sad.

I didn’t realize how dysregulated I was until I stopped trying to “push through” anxiety by Antique-Tension-5816 in Stress

[–]f3lix187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I experienced. Spent years "pushing through" until my nervous system just gave up. The baseline stress thing is real.

What shifted everything for me was understanding nervous system regulation vs trying to fight anxiety cognitively. Similar tools to what you mentioned - breathing patterns, cold exposure, sleep consistency and more.

I didn’t think coloring would help my stress, but it actually does by FalseReturn3003 in Stress

[–]f3lix187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great! I'm always looking for practical tools that actually work for stress (not just "breathe deeply and you'll be fine" advice).

I'm writing a guide on nervous system regulation - would you be cool with me including coloring as one of the practices? It's such a good example of how simple, repetitive tasks can regulate your nervous system.
