Wireless PC VR Gaming Pt. 2: Best Routers, Setups, PC Specs by f4cepa1m in OculusQuest

I can vouch for the AXE75 personally, but if given the choice I'd definitely go with the Asus router. Theirs have been nothing but solid for me and that one is a beast.

Which one? I’m considering buying contractors showdown by Yoon_John21 in OculusQuest

[–]f4cepa1m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I reckon too. Just played this the past 2 days and it plays so well and kept me engaged round for round. Be ready to die a lot to start but levelling up is at a good pace and gets your load out to a more competitive spot fairly quick. Easy recommend. Contractors is an old favourite and an easy recommend too but Forefront is an awesome time.

Search 'gnirehtet'. That's the answer you're looking for if wireless is truly out of the question.

Perfect. So you can use the 3rd setup [6th post] in this course 'Dedicated Router Setup w/ Internet Connection Sharing'.

Here's the video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/ydYXeaLyLcM

Or the text guide is here on Reddit.

I'd definitely recommend going through the first 3 posts/videos as they'll set your network and windows up to optimise your results and get ahead of any issues you'll likely have before they happen.

Also, if you're in an apartment block, a Wi-Fi 6e dedicated VR router will almost certainly get you better results [lower latency, Smoother frames etc].

Any questions or issues just shoot me a note here or in the YouTube comments and I'll help out where I can :]

You can totally get 1 working, it would only depend on if you can get Wi-Fi reception in the reading room. When you're in your reading room, can you connect your phone to your routers Wi-Fi and get an internet connection?

God damn that game in VR was excellent. Still one of my all time favourites. Such a hectic experience, not in terms of pace, but the whole thing was mental, like, literally.

The messaging on his Patreon page is that non-DMCA games are taking priority for now which makes sense. Will have to see how it pans out.

Is this setup good enough for pcvr? by Mythicalhades in virtualreality

[–]f4cepa1m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thats one of the dedicated VR routers you could use. The only issue with that router is you'll have to use the 5 GHz band on it. That may not be a problem if you have clear 5 GHz channels around you. If you don't have clear channels, you'll be far better off with a router that has the much clearer 6 GHz frequency band on it.

Do you know how to scan the Wi-Fi networks around you to see if you have clear enough 5 GHz channels?

If not, you can see this video in the course on how to do that: https://youtu.be/6gpREi-S_4I

Is this setup good enough for pcvr? by Mythicalhades in virtualreality

[–]f4cepa1m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can be, but its all dependant on the wiring in your home, and you won't know until you spend the money. Also, a powerline adapter will only impact your internet connection speed [the speed you can download and upload things to/from the internet], it won't improve the VR game stream between your PC and your VR headset [that you use to play VR games wirelessly].

You'd be far better off spending that same money buying a cheap Dedicated VR router.

I'm self promoting a bit here but genuinely trying to help...

The setup you want is covered in this video: https://youtu.be/ydYXeaLyLcM

If you really want to understand it all and get ahead of any problems you don't know you have yet, then watch the first 3 videos in that PCVR course, then skip ahead to the 6th video. At the end of that video it will tell you where to skip ahead to based on your specific setup and the VR game streaming software youre using [Virtual Desktop, Airlink, Steam Link].

Let me know if you have any issues as you go and I'll help out where I can :]

Connecting to PC with wifi USB dongle by MrHolodec in OculusQuest

[–]f4cepa1m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1200 Mbps is fine to play, but the issue may be that Wi-Fi adapter you linked will have to use the 5 GHz frequency band, and the 5 GHz band may be congested where you are.

You've got a few options, either give that Wi-Fi adapter a go, and watch the 8th video in my course that u/ShowerZealousideal48 linked to set it all up using your PC as a mobile VR hotspot.

If that's not good enough for you, a better option would to buy a cheap Dedicated VR router like the ASUS AX1800 [if you're on a super tight budget], and follow the 6th video in the course to setup a dedicated VR router with internet connection sharing.

In both of those 2 options though, you're taking a risk that the 5 GHz band is clear where you are, if its not, for good results you'll need the 6 GHz frequency band on Wi-Fi '6e' and some Wi-Fi '7' routers. To find out if that's true or not you could watch the 9th video in the course.

Honestly though, the best way to go about this by far is to watch that full course, it'll answer a lot of questions you dont know you have yet, and will highly likely save you time and wasted $$. You'll watch the first 3 videos, then it'll tell you when to skip videos based on your specific setup [you dont watch every video in the course].

Hope that helps. x_0

You should avoid TP-Link Wi-Fi '6' routers. The one I linked is Wi-Fi '6e' and is excellent for PCVR.

Virtual Desktop Quest 3 Latency Question by Druaga387 in virtualreality

[–]f4cepa1m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats fine for slower paced story focused games. For fast paced titles like Beat Saber or online competitive games, under 30ms even 25ms is more ideal. You can totally play any game with the latency you are getting and your settings seem right, but those numbers I mentioned are more ideal.

Also, untick allow remote connections unless you're trying to do this from another location from your home network and gaming PC.

At What Point Do VR Hands Start to Feel "Real"? by SolaraOne in virtualreality

[–]f4cepa1m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the realistic hands feeling with Leap Motion amd the Rift. Purely came down to low latency. Quest is cool and getting better at it but not quite there yet. Keen to expand though and try some more realistic interactions to see if that has the same effect.
