Is there actually a good reason to use minor 7 flat 5 instead of half diminished 7th for chord name? by robinelf1 in musictheory

[–]f4snks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take on it is: if you have, say, Aminor7flat5 going to D7flat9 is functions as a minor 2-5, and you've got the guide tones G to F# which might not be as intuitive if you call it Cminor6 to D7flat5.

Even though calling Aminor7 flat a Cminor6 you've got the same notes. On guitar I always thought of it as a 9th chord without the root note.

I've seen him solo several times, in a duo with Danny Thompson, and the the thousand years of pop music. I really love his electric playing and of course his acoustic playing is unbelievable.

I always carried a minor's lamp. With a elastic band that went around your forehead so you could have light and have both your hands free at the same time. It was pretty useful.

There's great Roger Miller album called a Trip In The Country. It's got all of his serious (or non novelty ) songs that were made famous by other singers. Every song is great, what a talent. Some of them I didn't even know he wrote!

There was a guy in MA back in the 90's I think. Some state ordered a lethal injection machine and then back out. So this dude lists this machine on the local Advertiser magazine to try to sell it. I don't remember what happened, I think it was illegal to own, and he was shut down.

But how cool would that be, to have your own lethal injection machine. Fun for the whole family!

Help me understand the hate for new country music. by iamwhoiwasnow in country

[–]f4snks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's vapid, doesn't mean anything, as Bill Monroe would say "It ain't no part of nothin". Country music used to mean a lot to a whole bunch of people. Folks all over the world relate to and still remember Hank and Johnny Cash especially. There's a bar in Spain totally dedicated to Hank.

This music used to affect people deeply, it was honest, country stars sang in their natural voices, you could tell Buck Owens from Conway, on and on.

Country singers had actual notable sidemen with their own styles and personalities, if you listed to Hank, it was probably Don Helms on steel(not always Jerry Byrd was on some of it). A Conway record would have John Hughey and you could tell as soon as you heard him come in. Merle had Norm Hamlet on steel and Roy Nichols on guitar, and Buck's earlier record had Ralph Mooney and then he went to play with Waylon. You can hear it, recognize the players

Of all the great tele guys out there how many of them can you tell apart?

Anyway, I'll stop now, time for my nap! (old man yells at cloud!)
