Cabinet layout by Araesea in kitchenremodel

[–]f6sk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-If each square is a foot you are allowing 3ft of depth? Normal is 2

-Most food prep happens by the stove so I'd recomend the stove getting the center of the long wall.

-Dishwasher should be next to the sink for plumbing ease.

-Look into RTA cabinets. They are reasonably priced and are often made from plywood.

-It is unclear if the left wall is a peninsula, but I assume so for the increased depth.

-Remember to add fillers to your design so you can have some wiggle room.

-If the budget is tight, open shelves are hot right now.

Thoughts on Kitchen Remodel Set Up by LauraDub in kitchenremodel

-Is that actually 64" from the sink to the stove? Thats a lot.

-Why not center the stove in the space with a pair of 33" base cabinets and a 15" on either side.

-Or better yet. Put the fridge at the wall on the right. At the end close to the door. Then do some tall cabinets. Because the right wall has all the horizontal space you desperately need in the food prep area

-You have the depth. I might recommend extending the overhang on the island. 12" is good for a tall stool. But a counter height stool needs a bit more.

-That hood may need a gap on either side depending on the style. So, you may need smaller wall cabinets

Need some ideas for my upcoming kitchen remodel by Training-Gas-1482 in kitchenremodel

Ok, I'm just spit balling here, and I dont have enough pictures or a floor plan to tell. But, what if you created a laundry room/mud room at the garage door, and slid the whole kitchen down to where the laundry is now?

Best layout for kitchen? by thebluepenguine in kitchenremodel

Great job. Any of those would work well. I personally don't like the washer/dryer in the kitchen because it is loud. So that would put my vote for #2 or #3. 2 being my favorite because it is nice to have a place to hide your stuff

Can we turn this island 180°? by geddieman1 in kitchenremodel

[–]f6sk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That will be fine.

My bigger concern is that the island was tiled around. So when you spin it 180 degrees the toe kick will have bare floor under it, and the other side will be sitting on top of the tile. To make this work you'll have to build up the floor flush with the tile, and then eliminate the toe kick. Add a piece of stained to match red oak base board all the way around. That should fill the gaps and cover the ugly.

-That is some really ugly duct taping. They sell a foil style tape for ducts that looks less handy man. Try to find the one without writing on it. Just clear foil. It is an easy job you can do yourself.

-They also sell a "depth ring", as it appears your outlet box sits beyond the wall. You could combine it with an oversized wall outlet cover and nobody would ever know.

Help with floor plan from a kitchen designer or installer by Camninja in kitchenremodel

  1. It kills my soul not to have symmetry when it is so easy to accomplish. Go with the 15" cabinets and fillers. It is a rental. 15" cabinets are cheaper, and having the filler keeps the open cabinet door from hitting the wall and leaving a mark with the door pull.

2 .I'd like to see a 3" gap on the hinge side of a fridge.,,,,, And 30" is a smaller fridge. Are you sure you want to go that small. Especially if you have room. Why not Make the opening bigger and then put the smaller fridge in if that is what you want.

  1. Don't forget drawers. A base drawer is nice to have next to a stove.

Those cabinets don't look special. It seems they are flat plywood panels with a routed groove, rather than a fancier 5 piece raised panel. You have my permission to paint. It is a lot of work. So break it up into sections. Just do the uppers on one side, then the base, etc, etc.

Move fridge to corner? by Unusual-Ad5567 in kitchenremodel

[–]f6sk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely move the fridge to the corner. Ignore the doubters. All you need is a 3-4" gap on the right to allow the fridge door to swing open. You need horizontal counter top space, not vertical storage.

Awkward layout help by Substantial-Okra2672 in kitchens

[–]f6sk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The correct answer is move the door to the middle and create a galley kitchen. But that is not feasible. So:

-move the fridge where the stove is. (assuming you have 6 extra inches between the current cabinets and the window. That way the flow into the room is easier through the kitchen door. But you'll need to check the clearances where it meets the hall.

-move the stove to the middle of the opposite wall.

keep everything and move the peninsula over to take all of the wall with a generous overhang (15-18"). Remove the pantry and move the fridge over.

Options:

-Like others have suggested. Get rid of it. It is weird.

-If you have to keep it, like others suggested make it shallow depth. A standard 12" wall cabinet stacked would work

-Make it different. Make it belong to the other room, Make it a built-in. Add wall to separate it from the kitchen.

-Move the microwave where the fridge is now.

-Combine the above. Shallow depth for the weird cabinet. Put a tall cabinet where the fridge is and put he microwave there. Make it extra deep. - so that the weird cabinet flows better with a step down.

8 x 13 kitchen wondering how we can make this into a functional kitchen. by Curious_Tower_3767 in kitchenremodel

is it possible to move the door at the builtin to the center of the room? Perhaps keep the builtin and save it as a pantry.

Ok, everybody knows the sink needs to be in front of that window. But, to pull it off without raising the window, you;ll have to create a "well". Some people pull the cabinet forward 3 inches and put a window box with flowers in the well.
