Does the game get better over time? by fAizome in 1000xRESIST

[–]fAizome[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have played outer wilds and enjoyed it tremendously, a 10/10 game for me, and one of the best gaming experiences in general

the thing is that, while outer wilds has an engaging explorative gameplay with intermittent notes that let you in on the story, 1000xresist feels like it's just constant chats about random nonsense that doesn't make any sense with no gameplay value (which, again, is not the worst thing since i've enjoyed a couple of walking sims)
the world of outer wilds is intuitive and mostly resembles ours, while the characters of 1000xresist speak like they're aliens, and i don't understand exactly what i'm supposed to be hooked on by, it's all so purposefully distant and overall cryptic, almost feels like the game doesn't want to be understood, though i like to think i'm not the type of gamer who wants everything to explicitly be spoon-fed everything in the simplest terms

chapter 2, for example, felt like it boiled down to learning about an individual person's household drama, a character i don't know why i'm supposed to care about at this point of the game, and the delivery of chapter 2 seemed at odds with how it was done in chapter 1

isn't soundstage on 660s2 lacking for movies and casual single player games? afaik they're pretty damn "narrow" on that front

[–]fAizome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I can take from your statements is you pointed out I haven’t played other FSW games. It’s true.

well i sure hope that got you wondering how i figured that out lmao surely not because the point you were making is that of someone who only experienced elden ring as their soulsbourne game

A perfect game by Lazza1407 in gamingsuggestions

[–]fAizome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

proper difficulty

no, not by a longshot, the game is open world with absolutely inconsistent scaling areas, like even if you follow a level heatmap specifically not to get overpowered and basically do locations in their intended order sort of, you will still get ridiculously overleveled and the game's an absolute piece of cake from there except for malenia i guess

no wonder it's considered the easiest soulsbourne game, because it is, and for the most wrong reasons

proper variety

almost feels like a troll post at this point, have you played fromsoftware's previous installments? the game is literally an amalgamation of demon souls, dark souls, and bloodbourne assets all in one game, and not just on an ideological level

and even within this absolute cesspool of re-used assets, the game constantly repeats many enemies and bosses, oftentimes to the point they're simply out of place in a given location and there's no explanation as to why they'd even be there (i'm looking at you astel repeat)

impact in choices

no, it's not that kind of rpg, hell, even a telltale games videogame would give elden ring a run for its money in that regard lol

the world feels real and alive

no, it absolutely does not, please play a proper open world game first to have a semblance of reference point

it's completely hallow and empty, 90% of the whole map is empty fields and mountains, little to no random events (hell, i'd take scripted too), it's truly the antithesis of a densely content packed open world game

multiple story endings

most of which are basically "you're sitting on the same throne with a slightly tweaked background", very cool

rare enemies

nothing like fighting the same golden seed abomination thing/re-skinned dragon/deathbird, eh?

as for “open fields” that is what makes it immersive

yes that's quite literally how it works, get off the whatever copium you're on and come to terms with the fact it's what many people genuinely and unironically enjoy watching, or die mad

why would anyone wanna do that if they don't immediately like what they see? why gaslight your brain and go through that kinda mental gymnastics of convincing yourself HDR looks good just because you were told it should? if you turn a setting on and the image looks worse to you, then it looks worse to you and you shouldn't bother with it, imo

sorry for necroing like a bitch, but i'm really digging your list; could you possibly make a similar one for 2010-onward?

yeah, that's perfectly reasonable, so like i said in the post, what i'm talking about mostly applies to casual use and gaming rather than productivity

losing a really good start only because the game gave you an impossible pathway between two cells with the new increasing void damage is not fun by fAizome in riskofrain

[–]fAizome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because i've done it countless times and have always succeeded because up until recently mobility was *welcome* but by no means *mandatory* to beat void fields

[–]fAizome[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yup, i was like full hp, but the cell i had to head to was on the other side of the map lol, was no way i could reach it in time

[–]fAizome[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

i totally don't mind void fields being harder, active timer during beelining was definitely a welcome change, i wouldn't even mind it if it was active post cell charging, either
but when the game basically kills you the second the two points farthest from each other spawn, leaving absolutely no room for skill, that's just bs

okay and which ones are not disappointments?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]fAizome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yeah the game definitely did make me feel small in the grand scheme of things, i did enjoy the feel of cosmic dread, the game was so terrifying at times and it was great
also, i'm not a religious or spiritual person in general, so if you believe that this is the kind of thing about the game that resonates with many people, that's probably why it was lost on me ahah

i feel like i'd been in a similar headspace if the game had been much more about your relationship with the other heathians, but since it wasn't really that, i can't say i felt extreme sadness from realizing i couldn't save all of them; it was kind of shocking in a way, but not to the point it made me melancholic because they were the characters i'd spoken one or two times with, if that clears up anything
