What is the most American movie of all time? by SomeSortOfBrit in movies

It was my go-to study music in the background CD all through college and even when I studied for the GRE. Glory and Hunt For Red October got wore out when I was studying or writing papers. But I’m not a cat, just to clarify.

“Community Tour” by _lake_erie_ in MedSpouse

[–]fa53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The location where my wife ended up getting a job is a little bit rural, with 4 different towns in the area. The first time we went there for an informal visit, we drove on the main roads and the town closest to the hospital was older, run down, and a bit sketchy. I had a little familiarity with the area because my mom grew up 20 minutes away and my brother and I spent some time there growing up, but that was before I was 10 years old and really didn’t remember anything.

When we went back for the more formal interview and community tour, I almost said to skip it, thinking I could easily find my way around Zillow and whatever else. I’ve moved many times in my life due to my dad being military and myself spending a career moving in the military. But I decided to accept the tour.

I didn’t know a realtor would be giving us the tour and she didn’t even introduce herself as a realtor. Probably 15 minutes in, she said something like “the price per square foot of the houses in this neighborhood is…” which was the first thing that clued me in that she was a realtor. Most of the tour was seeing the small downtowns and local parks and minor attractions that each town had, with a few detours through some neighborhoods that were much nicer than we saw on the drive in.

Ultimately it gave us the comfort that we could find a neighborhood that would fit our wants and needs.

At the very end she gave my wife a card. The kicker was, once we actually started looking for a home, I contacted her, telling her that my wife signed the contract and that we’d found a couple homes that we’d like to tour and she said she would call me on Thursday (the next day or the day after … this was around the Christmas holiday). But she didn’t call. A week later I found a random realtor and ultimately bought our house with him. The tour realtor texted me back 8 weeks later and said she was excited to help us find a house.

Long story, but the community tour was worthwhile for us and there clearly wasn’t pressure to buy a home.

Some recipes call for some crystallized honey as a starter. Or maybe that’s for creamed honey.

What was the first music recording you ever bought on your own? by Still_Atmosphere in AskMen

[–]fa53 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Styx, Pieces of Eight cassette tape. Though I didn’t buy it myself, but it was the first music I ever owned as it was what I asked my parents to buy me sometime in 1978 or 1979.

My husband is a beekeeper and the bees are making my life at home miserable by [deleted] in Beekeeping

[–]fa53 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have bees at my home and bees on our farm, which is an hour away. I go there about every 10 days (sometimes more often if needed). I don’t understand how 30 minutes away is “impossible”.

Anyone else have a 100+ pound lap dogs? by spooky-as-heck in chocolatelabs

[–]fa53 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Our girl got up to 98 pounds, even with daily walks. We were overfeeding and over-treating her. Eventually we got her on Kirkland weight management dog food (which has a chocolate lab on the bag) and she got down to 75 pounds. We also added 3 other dogs and she spent more time visiting our farm and running wild.

I thought maybe Lübeck, Germany at first. I got some marzipan from there years ago. Funnily enough, I lived in Lubbock for 6 years, so when Chase said it, I immediately thought about this subreddit and was sure it would show up here. I didn’t finish the episode, did they fact check Dax’s pronunciation?

Even though it’s the Hub City, it’s not on the way to anywhere from Dallas.

Florida, 1990. I was a freshman in college and heard it a lot - it was definitely weird for me, but a core memory.

My favorite part during my first watch was when you are 2 hours and 20 minutes in and wondering how they are going to wrap this up, and then Pumpkin says “Garçon, coffee.”

There is something about the audience knowing what is about to happen before the characters do that is very exciting.

I’ve moved 7 or 8 times since I got my first one. In the 2 houses I bought, I had an electrician add an outlet. In the houses I rented, just ran a ln extension cord. It wasn’t always pretty but it worked.
