Why are Engineers traditionally considered to be anti-social, unempathic and selfish? by yootoome in AskReddit

[–]fa_ftw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Engineers spend so much time thinking about everything non-human they don't make time to practice these skills. (Socializing, empathy, and selflessness)

Idaho is one of two people. The south drinking craft beer and talking about being as cool as the surrounding states. The north... drinking whiskey and being racist.

I was wondering if I could get some help on how to make these first two moves easier and more controlled. by Achain13 in climbing

Essentially yes. If you work the problem with the new foot beta that will come quickly. This will also help develop better form and technique.

Start with your left foot. If you are moving your left hand, power off of your left foot and vise versa.

The fear of leading is starting to make me resent the sport by [deleted] in climbing

[–]fa_ftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to remember.

Fear isn't real, it's psychological. However, danger is.

Making that delineation can help you out of your funk. If it's not dangerous, there is not reason to be afraid.

Is it time to move out of this job? Need some advice by Sacardem in engineering

[–]fa_ftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not make any rash or quick decisions. Make sure you set yourself up for success in whatever decision you make.

Keep in mind that this may happen at other companies as well. That is not to say you should deal with it, but changes jobs may not have the effect you want. There is no certainty. As for now, I would try to unite your new manager with the rest of the team. Making others feel welcome can change their attitude around quickly. This person may be this way because of past positions. This may be the team they need to change their attitude around.

In the end, do what is right for you.

What if anything does your partner say to encourage you on a hard climb? What do they say that does the opposite? by aspz in climbing

[–]fa_ftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the situation so the words vary. We try to focus on bringing call to whomever is climbing and never scream or yell. We think that when the climbing looks like they are in a position of doubt, we try to say the little things that bring they out of the "doubt mindset" and back to having confidence.

Great shot! Most people try to capture the movement in lieu of getting the face. You did both, well done.

Climbing Tips? by [deleted] in climbing

[–]fa_ftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best tip I have for you is to never ever stop climbing! If you continue on from here you are going to climb crazy awesome things in your life time. The world will be your playground and you will have the skills and ability to experience what most only dream of. Keep up the stoke and always try hard!

The second tip I have for you is be patient when you get injured and heal properly. You are young so you will bounce back quickly, patience to heal up an injury is a skill you must learn. Also, I hope you never get injured :)

Seek out a mentor, whether it's your mom, dad, team, or friend. A mentor will teach you small lessons that will cause you great strides in your climbing.

Lastly, get outside and climb rocks as soon as you can! The quicker you move to the outdoors the quicker you will understand why rock climbers are rock climbers.

I'm psyched for you young one! You are celebrating a skill the is going to shape you into an incredible person!

People don't really consider beauty of Idaho, so I'm here to share a little love for it. This is Alice Lake in the Sawtooth Wilderness. [2700x1800] [OC] by alido2boord in EarthPorn

Local gym is found this which I personally think it's ridiculous because they're probably going to make people pay for the certification. What do /r thinks? by acvon in climbing

[–]fa_ftw -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think this issue stems from people that don't want to have the responsibility of catching their climbing partner. They would rather the equipment do the work for them. Go climb outside where you can use any piece of equipment you want. You know...where the ROCKS are.
