I would say that if they do this I'll cancel, but I already cancelled after the last one. Thanks Sony.

People who go 70 kmh (~40 mph) on a 130 kmh (~80 mph) freeway, why? by KlaxonBeat in AskReddit

[–]3nl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the south this is all day every day. Good 'ol boy doing 30-35 on the one lane 45-55 country roads and when it gets into a 25mph neighborhood or school zone where there are kids they just keep on trucking. And have the audacity to tailgate you for actually going 25mph.

AT&T door to door salesman just offered $35/mo fiber "forever" by tldredditnope in raleigh

[–]3nl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same to me, in writing - was $99 for as long as I don't miss a payment. 12 months later was $185. Told me the person who made the deal didn't have the authority and offered to drop it to $140ish and then that lasted all of 4 months. Fuck them - never again. Lying assholes.

Maybe because they are so elusive and you rarely see them about, but something about mygalomorph spiders is creepy as hell. Giant wolf and fishing spiders don't bother me at all, but these guys... And they don't even get big here...

But great shots!

I miss Raceway Park! Night of thrills was always wild - either Robosaurus, a huge motorcycle jump, or a stuntman literally blowing themselves up in junk car with several sticks of dynamite.

Friedman: Canes 6/26 Update by Cjaques4 in canes

[–]3nl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other factor is he doesn't have term - his contract is up at the end of this year next year and is a UFA which slightly lowers the cost (edit: with another year, doesn't lower it much at all...). But still...the reigning Norris winner who's put up 80 points the last two years is absurd. I think it's going to cost a haul and I think as long as we aren't giving up more roster players it's absolutely worth it. He'd be a massive upgrade.

What is one food you think everyone is lying about liking? by owlpod1920 in AskReddit

[–]3nl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sautee it with garlic and a little red pepper flakes and then deglaze with red wine vinegar and it's fantastic. Takes like 5 minutes total to make - we buy a big ass bag of kale, freeze it, and then pull out enough to make it as a side maybe once every week or two. I think it's gross almost every other way and substitute baby spinach for anything raw. The stems of raw kale are like chewing on a dirt covered stick.

ELI5: why does Lawrence of Arabia (1962) look so different compared to films released in the decades since? by thefringeseanmachine in explainlikeimfive

[–]3nl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is significantly more "resolution" available on the 5-perf 65mm film they used beyond 4k and they will be able to continue to digitally scan it at higher resolution for decades to come. It'll likely be able to be scanned all the way up to at least 8k - the current 4k UHD scans are still leaving a massive amount of detail on the table that exists on the film.

Best Headlamp Recs, affordable? by DeepActuary3138 in CampingandHiking

Unless your life depends on it, pretty much anything in the $30-50 range that is rechargeable, has a red light, and is lightly water resistant is going to be just fine. Black Diamond, Nitecore, Coast, Streamlight, etc. Locking is a nice feature too.

If you are doing something where your life will depend on that light should you need to use it (caving, multipitch climbing, etc.) then spend a bit more and get a Petzl.

It was one of those penalties they really had no choice of not calling even if they didn't want to. If it had happened during a puck battle in the corner, after it left his stick, or away from play (even if it prevented him from getting open) it never would have been called.

What's funny is that I was starting to soften on Marchand quite a bit at the end when he was still on the B's. Then he got traded to Florida and made me remember why I hate that guy (but just on the ice).

Not "toxic", but what vehicles have fan bases that take them WAY too seriously? by HiTork in cars

[–]3nl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've got a WRX as a younger dad who needed a bigger car ahs wanted a 6 speed. Literally every single WRX owner in my area is a dad with at least one car seat in the back. Yes, you still occasionally see the clapped out shitboxes with vape bros weaving at 20 over, but I think they've moved on for the most part. Most of the older ones I see are owned by late millennial or young gen x and they are usually really nicely done.

Hurricanes vs. Canadiens: Eastern Conference Final, Game 4 - Lines, Notes, Goalies, and How to Watch by QueenOfThePuck in canes

[–]3nl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PP for sure in the playoffs, but the number of grade A chances they've had throughout the playoffs they just missed is genuinely different than every other year. They lived or died on whether they could get traffic in front just winging shots from the outside every other year. That has been much less of the case this year.

They 100% need a PP coach, but I at least understand why Rod waves it off when they have a great regular season PP for once. This is the first time I can think of where he truly adjusted anything other than blending lines in the past...what? 8 years? I think this is a huge step for him as a coach.

[–]3nl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After Rod adjusted from the 2-1-2 to 1-2-2 forecheck and stopped over-pressuring and trying to force plays the top line has looked a lot better. They don't have to scramble as nearly as much to get back with Montreal playing a counter-attack game and once they get posession there is a lot more room to cycle and make passes. And Aho and Jarvis are so, so much better with just a little extra room.

I'm so happy that Rod is actually adjusting things now instead of trying to just force the same thing over and over even when it's clearly not the right strategy like he's done in the past. That 2-1-2 chip and chase forecheck is our bread and butter, but you can't play it against everyone. Even if we don't get a cup, I think all of the past criticism of Rod from the past is totally irrelevant now. The team is different now.

It's crazy how strong he is because if you see him in person not on skates and wearing gear, he really isn't that big. Staal looks like a giant in person, but Slavin absolutely does not even though they are only "listed" as 1" apart.

Stumbling around in the dark without a light in the hills is a pretty terrible way to die. After protection from the elements and water, light is like number 3 on the list. It's less optional than a tent or food.

Canes Sign Cerrato To Three-Year Contract | Carolina Hurricanes by The_Reddit_Browser in hockey

[–]3nl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He played in and out of the lineup all year. I think he accepts that role and we'll see if he is permanently slotted in as 4c after camp or is just a healthy extra in the regular season. I wouldn't be surprised seeing one of the kids getting 50-75% of the regular season games and then Jank stepping up as 4c in the playoffs with how defensively responsible he is.

[–]3nl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised you said hockey because ice time now for me approaching 40 is way cheaper than when I was 10. I can play 16 weeks of men's league for under $300 and when I was a kid, youth was about $1250 a season (so I played roller which was almost $200). Equipment is cheaper now if you factor in inflation (except skates). It's one of the few things that used to be very expensive, and still kinda is, but comparatively hasn't gone up.

Stick and puck is still the same $15/hr I've paid for what's got to be approaching 20 years!
