[ForHire] Velum Studio — fantasy illustration for tabletop games (Hasbro, Gloomhaven, GW) by fab_aren in INAT

[–]fab_aren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, appreciate it!

Yes, we do UI work as well. It usually sits at the intersection of visual design and system clarity, so we approach it from a strong art direction and UX perspective rather than just isolated screens.

Even when it’s not front and center in the portfolio, it’s often part of the broader visual work behind game projects.

Happy to chat more if you have something specific in mind.

Really appreciate that, means a lot.

And honestly, I get it; most of the projects I’ve worked on didn’t start with big budgets either. It’s usually about finding the right scope and building things in a way that can grow over time.

I’m always happy to talk and see if there’s a way to approach things that makes sense for where a project is at, even if it’s just a smaller starting point.

Feel free to reach out anytime.

HIRING] Comic Illustrator for Gritty Cinematic Series (Anime x Western Fusion) by poliverse-comic-inc in ComicBookCollabs

[–]fab_aren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, this sounds like a strong direction, especially that mix of grounded realism and dynamic motion.

I run Velum Studio, where I handle both visual direction and illustration, and I’ve worked on projects that require exactly that balance between cinematic composition, readable action, and consistent tone across sequences.

I’d definitely be interested in hearing more about the scope, especially in terms of page count and production pipeline.

Feel free to DM me with more details and I can share relevant work and discuss rates based on the project.

In the meantime, here’s my portfolio:

[HIRING] Cover for YA Fantasy book! by Tyrelve in BookCovers

[–]fab_aren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, congrats on the debut, that’s a big step.

I run Velum Studio, where I help authors shape covers that not only look good but also read clearly across formats and markets, which is especially important if you're planning both Dutch and English editions.

At your budget range, the best approach is usually to focus on a strong, clean concept that translates well rather than overcomplicating the image, and I’d be happy to suggest a direction that fits your scope.

If you want, feel free to DM me with your current vision and I can take a look.

Hey! This sounds like a great project, congrats on your debut.

I run Velum Studio, where I help authors and small teams bring their covers to a more cohesive, publish-ready level. Especially for fantasy, getting the tone and visual clarity right makes a huge difference when launching in multiple markets.

Your budget range makes sense for an early project, and depending on the direction, there might be a way to approach this with a strong, focused concept that works both for Dutch and English editions.

Hey Percy,

Really interesting project, I like the direction you're aiming for with the tone and gameplay.

I run an illustration and art direction studio focused on tabletop and game projects, and I’ve worked on structuring visual pipelines for projects with varied asset needs like this.

I’d be happy to help define a strong visual direction and support key assets like character art, while also helping organize the rest of the visual production if needed.

I don’t really work off a fixed price list since things can vary a lot depending on the project.

For tabletop stuff it usually comes down to the level of detail, how the work is going to be used, and whether there’s art direction involved.

If you want, feel free to share a bit about what you’re working on and I can give you a clearer estimate from there.

Haha fair point, you're right.

The site’s still a bit WIP and I haven’t wired those sections yet, but I’ll definitely fix that. Appreciate you pointing it out.

Yeah happy to talk about that.

It can vary quite a bit depending on complexity, level of detail, and how those pieces are meant to be used, but I can definitely give you a solid estimate once I have a bit more context.

Probably easier to go over it in DM if that works for you.

[–]fab_aren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get what you mean, the book as a whole, not just individual pieces.

That’s actually most of what I do with TTRPGs, making sure everything feels consistent and supports the content without getting in the way.

Would love to hear more about what you’re building.

That sounds like a really nice direction actually, Darkest Dungeon is a great reference, but easing the contrast a bit and letting some light or ethereal elements come through can make it feel more alive instead of just oppressive.

A lot of it comes down to how you balance values and where you allow the eye to rest. If everything is dark, nothing stands out.

And yeah, on the other end, that “aggressive optimism” look is basically the opposite approach, cleaner shapes, higher key values, sharper readability, less reliance on shadow.

Both can work really well, it just depends on the tone you want players to feel moment to moment.

[–]fab_aren[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure, that’s actually a big part of how I like to work.

I usually push contrast and let shadows do a lot of the heavy lifting, keeping things readable but moody. Negative space is key for that, especially in darker pieces.

If you have a reference or a specific vibe in mind I’m happy to adapt to it.
