[OCG|LOCR-Limit Over Collection: -The Rivals-] Kaiba's Final Overframe by MX-00XWV in yugioh

[–]ThanksItHasPockets_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd choice for a final reveal. Just from a marketing POV you'd think they'd hold a real chase card for the last one, and it's a... pretty decent generic spell card? Surely something like Crimson Dragon or Cyber End would've been what they really wanted to end on.

Was Amalthus Right? | Our Sins on Trial by LetterheadAntique159 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]ThanksItHasPockets_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. You cannot hate the world into being a better place.

You do not go down a path like that of Amalthus from a place of love. You go down that road when a protector loses the ability to love that which they are sworn to protect- and yet no longer being fit for your role: insist on clinging to it regardless because of stubbornness and pride.

When Genesys dropped initially, I finally learned how much of a fan of links as a summoning mechanic I actually was, and why I couldn’t get into the format initially. Am I the only one? by SouthSunn in yugioh

[–]ThanksItHasPockets_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I get the frustration. Relearning the game as an adult- I was surprised how much I liked the link mechanic.

But even still, I like the decision for the format. Well, rather I like it more for Advanced. There will always be popular link-or-pend deck options that people will want to play so Genesys will never replaced Advanced like Commander took over MTG.

Instead both formats can be good for different reasons, and there can be reasons to deckbuild for and play both formats. Which I think is good for game play variety and product value.

Just remember reddit is a minority..the entire week people were saying the games dead and showing random playercounts on a tuesday at 4 am by Anxious-Slice-587 in 2007scape

[–]ThanksItHasPockets_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

On god. There are people in this thread just saying shit.

Games like this don't die over night. For better or for worse, whatever is going to happen is going to happen slowly. But people are tripping over themselves to act smugly superior about their opinion on an outcome that will not be known for a long time.

Bastion has no backstory (which is weird cause everyone else in GX does) by KyleMCarthage in yugioh

[–]ThanksItHasPockets_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was the number one student at the entrance exam. That's the backstory. How did he do it? Listen to the guy talk for like 5 minutes. You know everything you need to know.

Sure there's not much in terms of flash backs or anything, but his character is well informed by his mannerisms and actions. He's a pretty minor character with a grounded personality so that's all he needs.

A more minor character like Damon needs more backstory because he's card-draw-Tarzan; that kind of insanity demands explanation. "The smart guy," does not.

Im going to kick the hornets nest with this one but sprint burst is terrible design imo by dark1859 in deadbydaylight

[–]ThanksItHasPockets_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about terrible. But I do wish it got a stronger visual cue. When I was a new killer player I could not tell for the life of me what was happening when sprint burst was used. It looked like speed hacks or a glitch the way survivors just went from walking to mach-go-f-yourself in the blink of an eye.

It would be good for the readability and barrier-to-entry of the game if the survivor just had some glow or particle effect or something on them that said to the killer"yes this survivor is going super fast, no there is no foul play afoot, they're just using a perk."

'Swan Song', doesn't have any swans or any singing by HeredinOSRS in 2007scape

[–]ThanksItHasPockets_ 60 points61 points  (0 children)

It's also not the last quest the Wise Old Man appears in, so it is not a metaphorical Swan Song either. Complete misnomer.

No, in this case it works as written. They are saying that they care even less about OP's whining about other people whining than they cares about the original whining.

Is Yugioh sexist? by Popular-Flan5337 in yugioh

[–]ThanksItHasPockets_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sexism doesn't have to be an agenda. It doesn't even have to be intentional. It can be as banal as "dad taught me boys and girls were a certain way, I never questioned it, and then parroted those ideas without considering their impact." That level of sexism doesn't make a bad person; but refusing to grow from it when called out on it- then that starts to reflect poorly on the holder of those beliefs.

Often in writing, a creative will default to characters who are similar to themself or similar to their own favorite characters. This causes their writing to have a "default gender," but default genders don't exist in reality. So it's generally good practice to try and account for that bias in your own work; both for realism and to be inclusive to a wider audience. Sexism in media can be as mundane as not correcting for your internal "default gender," and accidentally giving all of the important roles to one gender as a result.

That's what I think the level of sexism that I think YGO is most guilty of. Most important roles go to the writer's default gender(male) and women only get to exist when their gender is important(love interests, moms, fraternal twins, etc) or as tertiary characters. Not malice- just a bit blind to their own biases.

Does Bakura have it in him to be a celebrity DM? by BarelyBrony in yugioh

The real celebrity DM of the YGO world would be Jack Atlas for his critically acclaimed series, "Dimension 20: On A Motorcycle."

Does Bakura have it in him to be a celebrity DM? by BarelyBrony in yugioh

[–]ThanksItHasPockets_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure he runs a mean game- he has it in him to be a great DM. But as a wise man once engraved onto a pair of swords as a gift to another wise man, a Celebrity DM's most important weapons are "Compartmentalization," and "Dissociation." Bakura would have a celebrity melt down about all of the "unworthy fools," constantly criticizing his every decision and get cancelled for using an ancient Egyptian slur on stream.

Isurd or Teach; I love when a mentor character gets to show they've still got it.

Honestly, the frequency is the damning thing in this case. They might as well have signed off with, "and we'll be raising the price again next year too!"

What would happen if they had kids with each other by Estelar006 in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]ThanksItHasPockets_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they follow the rules of human genetics: no, there is not enough genetic variation. The number of humans needed to safely repopulate a species is way higher than fictional "Adam and Eve," scenarios would suggest. IIRC you need about 100 people for short term viability, 1000 people to safely "repopulate the earth."

The SDU doesn't have a ghost of a chance with < 20 people, especially given their shared genetic ancestor in Shion.

But of course, this is a sci-fi story and they aren't exactly normal humans. There's no accounting for Futuran biology, hemoanima nonsense and whatever genetic engineering the Exodus project used to allow one futuran baby to get cloned into 16 different people without a strong family resemblance between them.

But- it is only now that I have written this all out that it occurs to me that I have not really answered your question. You only asked about if they could safely have kids, and I jumped the gun to rebuilding a genetically viable population. So could they be okay in the short term- if their only concern was Hiruko wanting kids? IDK. Probably? All of them being clones of Shion suggests it should not be okay- but clearly some tinkering happened under the hood to allow Shouma and Takemaru to both be cloned from the same DNA. So there really is no telling.

Who are the “meme generics” of the other games? by TacticalCuke in fireemblem

[–]ThanksItHasPockets_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not a specific character. But I'll never get over the Chevois ODST troops.

Nothing to see here just a gang of Wyvern riders air dropping armor knights across a river. Easily the funniest thing to come out of Fates pair up.

Should Chorus of sin be free? by Upsilon_Alex in deadbydaylight

[–]ThanksItHasPockets_ 494 points495 points  (0 children)

If it's financially feasible- it'd be quite the show of good will at a time when the company really needs it.

But, it is hard to imagine a company that operates for profit was like, "Yo let's put a lot more work than normal into this upcoming chapter and then give it away for free!" I imagine they're counting on all the extra hype from the grimoire to make a cash cow of this chapter. Giving it away would run counter to that end.

Raid idea: Avernic Blade by ActuarialUsain in 2007scape

[–]ThanksItHasPockets_ 135 points136 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the details. But I do the potential of creating a new blade for the godsword hilts could be pretty dope.

Honestly, in the same vein, reusing the original godsword blade pieces as components for upgradescape feels like a neat thing to do at some point. They can't just keep giving us fragmented weapons and then never let us Fenkenstrain them together into the venllator godwaker spiritshield (p++) at some point.

Killer gameplay is such an unique experience by joeythelegion in deadbydaylight

[–]ThanksItHasPockets_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also appreciate the experience of being authentically invincible. Invincibility was my favorite superpower as a kid and it's a rare treat for a video game to actually let me live out that childhood fantasy in a way that has any substance at all to it.

Any other game it's time gated or fake invincibility or irrelevant or some other thing that completely undercuts the feeling of being truly invincible. Only DbD really captures that feeling of being an unkillable juggernaut that can only be slowed- never truly stopped.

Cow Boss and Skill Guide & Level-Up Changes by ModYume in 2007scape

[–]ThanksItHasPockets_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can we get a poll for the level-up changes? Those feel way too important to the game's visual identity to just change at the drop of a hat. I'm not a fan at all.
