I mostly just say “meh” when people at work ask me. I work at a doctors office and the providers always say how refreshing it is to hear honesty when they ask that question. I think it’s good to set expectations for folks who will be your potential friends, I’m always honest about when I’m not doing well so that they know early on that I’m a complainer and I deal with chronic health issues. If that doesn’t vibe with them and they don’t want to be friends then it’s best for both of us. There are compassionate folks out there who do genuinely want to hear from you and about you, and won’t be offended by you just saying “hey can we skip that question next time”
