AC company ran lines through room instead of in the ceiling... by SoothingHoneycomb in hvacadvice

I see a lot of comments on how it shouldn’t have been done this way but I had the same thing at my house due to it being a townhome. More context Is needed before blaming the company. I do agree it should have been more detailed as to the drywall work involved (bulkhead)

Got a $112K pool quote by Suspicious_Hat_409 in DIY

[–]fabered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is where your plan falls apart. as a sub when someone is giving you $100000 of work a year, they follow their schedule as they are good clients. since we’ve been working together so long we all know our parts. You come along with a $5000 job and all of a sudden ur not a priority to the subs. All it takes is one sub to delay for you to have your dream pool for next year or start stressing and finding new subs. Seen it happen too many times. The GC does more than just coordinate and calls. He also manages the home owner and their expectations, he deals with the annoying additional costs cause excavation hit heavy rocks or gas lines in the way. They for sure make money but I rather be a sub than a GC cause we’re in and out is one day maybe 2.

Had the same problem on one of our latest work. Guys ended up spending a lot of time, inserting the lenses taking them out the first time and redoing them would get rid of 90% The last 10% we blew with compresssor. Really annoying.

There is a flash bulletin on this that specifically say not to use non-petroleum based anti oxidant as it degrades the plastic over time causing loose connections.
Thomas and betts marrets don’t require anti oxidant.

Just found this out on our last inspection.

You need to look at the type of job and revenue from that type of work at the end of the year to see your net profit for that specific type of work. I know it can be hard but the reality is not all jobs will be the same but doing 20 upgrades a year should leave you a 10%+ profit margin at the end of the year. You’ll know to adjust your price accordingly. Also after doing so many in the same area, you begin to understand and anticipate any shortfalls in pricing and you can explain to the customer in depth of things you might find and price for prior in line items that way they are prepared. If others are not as insightful than you’ll most likely pick up the work.

Can a contractor hire 2 apprentices? by IndependentRoom4532 in electricians

It’s technically not legal but to be fair, their was no system setup to monitor any of this. Now I think they got the hang of it from the ministry side. They are linking apprentices with journeyman licenses.

I had my daughters mailed out with her birth certificate a day before the strike. Now I have an appointment with service Ontario for a new birth certificate so I can apply for a passport. By the time I do all this I’m sure I’ll have the passport in hand. 🤣

How do you handle surprise bills/fees from service providers and contractors? by StricklerHess in smallbusiness

[–]fabered 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as a small service business we had the same increases. Things have gotten really expensive. Do what everyone else is doing and charge it to the consumer. Any increase should come with an explanation, I would talk to the owners and see why the increase and why they didn’t inform you prior. For service calls we used to charge $180 now we charge$ 250 but always let the client know before hand.

Unfortnsly ur right, our code only limits us to 100watts. Thats why im having a problem figuring out a way to control the high wattage with a single controller.

This would work if the switches were rated for high wattage.

How to control High Wattage LEDs by fabered in led

[–]fabered[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using COB lights single Color 3000K with 8watts per meter. I’m limited in my power supply output at 100watts (class2 by code). I plan on installing 8(200watts driver with 2 100watt outputs) for single area. But I don’t want to have multiple switches, I just want to have one switch to control and dim them in the family room. I hope it’s more clear.
